Commitment

Librarian's note: This is an alternate cover edition for ASIN: B00MAMMS5Q.

Maddie Duff had a horrible childhood - dreadful, vile, and appalling, thanks to her deranged mother. Maddie was forced into a life that made her believe that perfection and beauty were the most important things. She was taught that the only relationships worth having with men were those of a sexual nature; men were not worth the commitment.

She leads a life of fun, carefree, emotionless sex with countless men. She lives with her best friends, Kenz and Becca, who she considers her only family. She also has an ongoing ‘friends with benefits’ thing with her friend and neighbor, Young.

Tyler Young is hot, sexy and loves women. He is foul-mouthed, idiotic and hysterical. He lives with his best friends, Campbell and Dick. These three may bust each other; however, they have each other’s back in the blink of an eye. Young has his sights set on Maddie. They have an intense, mind-blowing time in the bedroom … Until he decides he wants more.

Even though Young has Maddie feeling things she has never felt before, not to mention her panties on fire, when he suggests a relationship she takes off. Young is determined to make Maddie his, whatever the cost. He comes up with a plan that he believes will do just that. Make Maddie his … mind, body and soul.

Can Young convince Maddie that he is worth breaking all her rules for? Will Maddie be able to let down her walls, forget what she believes, and let Young in? What happens when the past finally catches up with you and the truth is revealed?

Is the Commitment worth it?

Um. Yeah. There aren't words. To describe. How completely perfect Young is. I mean. I can't. I just can't. Holy shit. He's freaking hot. He's stupidly funny, which I love. He's so caring and thoughtful. I just can't. I gotta go cry myself to sleep right now knowing that Young doesn't exist in real life. Thanks Heather. ;)

“I will never let a man own me, and I refuse to become of those women dependent on a man emotionally.”

I was curious and looking forward to this one. Liked both Young and Maddie in the first book.

From the very beginning, we find out Maddie’s secret. And it’s an ugly one. Suffice it to say, her mother is a monster. The person that should love her and protect her from the moment she draws her first breath is the one that hurts her most and is careful to place idiotic ideas into Maddie’s head, thus enabling her to form a bond with the opposite sex. She uses sex not only for pleasure and because she loves it, but it’s a way for her to escape feelings. Young, well, he just likes to fuck. He’s a hot-blooded male that likes women and falls hard for the one that can’t commit.

I liked it, though I feel the story was more about the sex than the main characters’ connection. They do get there, they do overcome a lot of nasty things, both together and individually but, as I said, I feel like the emphasis was on the sex between them. Don’t get me wrong, these two are hot together, Young has a dirty mouth but I would have wanted there to be a balance. The scale kind of tipped over.

All in all, 3 ½ stars. There were a few typos, nothing serious. I liked both characters, their Truth or Dare games are funny and will be reading the next one about Becca and Dick, since it’s only now that we see a connection between them, whereas there was nothing more than friendship in the first book.

Commitment is book 2 in the Change Series. This can be read as a stand alone book.

Maddie lives with her best friends and roommates, Kenz and Becca. Across the hall are Campbell, Dick and Young. Kenz is dating Campbell, so the crew hangs out together often. Young and Maddie have a “friends with benefits” relationship. Hot and heavy sex, no strings attached, or so Maddie thought. Young wants Maddie, he’s sick of being a player. She is the only woman he is interested in and he just wants her to give him a chance to show her how truly happy he can make her.

“I know I’m an asshole, a smart ass and generally a fucking idiot. But I promise I will keep you happy, Maddie.”

Maddie is damaged goods, or so she thinks. She refuses to ever get into a relationship because all she feels she is good for is Hot and Wild Sex! Her childhood has been anything but conventional. With a mother that whored her out at the ripe age of 16, she was taught at a young age that men are good for nothing but paying for Sex! Her mother pushed her to always look PERFECT! How exhausting to have to deal with a psychotic pain in the ass mother.

“Maddie, I love you no matter what. I don’t give a fuck what you did what you were forced to do or what you believe. I know who you are. I’ll give you time if that’s what you need, hell I waited this long. But believe me when I say, this isn’t over. This is far from over.”

How can Young convince Maddie to open up to him and give him a chance at a relationship? Will Maddie ever deal with the past that’s haunted her all these years? There’s just one way to find out and that’s to pick this amazing story up and read it. Maddie and Young are very funny characters as we saw in Changed, book 1. Here you get to see a whole new side to each of these characters. The two players we bought saw before really show their true colors. We thought Maddie was so in control and such a badass, was it all just a front so nobody would find out how she truly lived her life pre-college days? Holy moly the funniest part of the book was the “super quickie”, the man just didn’t understand what a quickie stood for either. What a douchecanoe! I’m rating this 4.5 awesome stars and I cannot wait to read about Dick and Becca.

4 1/2 stars!! I had the pleasure of being a beta reader for this hot and sexy NA, and I was one of several that had absolutely nothing to contribute for Heather to improve this story. I basically read this in one day, as a published book.
This review is based on my beta read.
This is a very hot and sexy NA, that I feel could be read as a standalone. It's a quick read, without too much angst or emotional intensity, just a great fun and cheeky story with plenty of sexual shenanigans.
In book one, we met a great circle of friends in college, Maddy and Young being secondary characters. This book is their story, 12 months later, when they have all finished college and are working their first jobs.
Maddy and Young have been having sex casually for the last year, however Young has decided that he wants more, but Maddy is allergic to relationships. After advice from his father, Young decides the way to a relationship with Maddy is to no longer have sex, with the aim of getting to know each other properly. What happens when two hot sexed up young things, who both have used sex as a crutch for several years, go without? Maddy freaks out, "without sex, we have nothing!!" But with some negotiating, Maddy eventually agrees.
Let the frustration begin, in this 'lovers to friends' story, in order to fall in love.
I loved this concept of a story, a flip on the usual. I loved the well written characters and best friends and family members. Young reminds me of Travis from BD, but without the fighting. I especially loved how Heather writes hot sex scenes, this is a perfect one-hand quick read.
I highly recommend this book, my firm favourite from this author so far, who seems to be improving and perfecting her craft with every book. Definitely an author to watch, and I can't wait for her next one!!

While we all fell in love with this gang of 6 in Changed, Commitment brings you even deeper into their story. Campbell and Kenz are still happily together, Becca is still searching for Mr.Right, Dick is still mysterious, but Young knows what he wants... Maddie... His.... Forever. Will he be able to penetrate the walls she's put up and have her going against the only things she's ever known or will she continue to be stubborn and push away something that could be as wonderful and beautiful as what her best friend Kenz has? I can't tell you, but I will tell you that you'll find out if you read Commitment. In Changed we learn all about Kenz past, and it isn't pretty. Everyone has a story. Maddie and Young deserve their chance to tell theirs. It's heartbreaking, tragic, beautiful, promising, romantic, hot, funny (of course! How can it not?! You do remember this is Young's story too, don't you?!) You'll see a different side to these main characters, and it makes you love them all more. Maddie's past comes back to haunt her in more ways than one, when her friends end up paying for it, it'll leave Maddie on a road of contemplation, change, determination, promise, and hope. Read this book and you'll watch the gang grow, and become more of a family. It'll also have you really wanting the next in the series. Dick has remained a mystery from the beginning and I can't wait to get in his head!

Loved this book very much, finished it in just a few days. I loved the story and the characters very much, especially the way Maddie and Young both learn and grow from each other and fall more in love. I love how strong and brave Maddie is when it comes to facing her mother and over coming the bad things she has to deal with from her childhood. I also love how Young stays strong for his girl and doesnt give up on her. He teaches her that she is perfect just the way she is, and doesnt need to hide her true self from him, he will always love her no matter what. So happy to see that these two got together, they make an awesome pair. Beautifully written, and perfect characters. Love this story very much <3

It was ok. Would a mother really do this to her child? Yes. The author has written a plausible story about a form of child abuse and how it has affected her life. Maddie’s saving grace is her very persistent neighbor, Young. He has long fallen for her and slowly has her falling for him too. Love this pair of characters!

Full of passion, intense emotions, healing, and a well-deserved HEA!

Wow! Heather Dahlgren blew me away with the intensity of emotions she instilled in me with the details surrounding Maddie’s background and the relationship with her mother. I don’t think I have ever wanted to jump inside a book, yell at a character, and slap some sense into them as much as I did with Maddie’s mother. This woman was in no way a “real” mother to Maddie – she was a monster. Her mother’s lifestyle, as well as the lessons she taught Maddie as a child, were the basis for how Maddie lived her life.

Ms. Dahlgren did a phenomenal job with providing just enough information so we understood how Maddie was affected, without taking away from the story of Maddie and Young. Maddie’s childhood was far from conventional, and her mother filled her head with garbage and conditioned Maddie to always be perfect and to expect certain things in life.

Maddie is who she is, and a large part of this is a result of how her mother raised (or didn’t raise) her. Her childhood is her secret, and she has developed her own ways to cope with the trauma she experienced at the hands of her mother. Some of the ways she deals with her past is to put up walls and not let anyone in, tell everyone she has no contact with her mother, and to not share any part of her childhood with anyone, including her two roommates, Kenz and Becca, who are more like sisters to her.

Living with Kenz and Becca is the first time Maddie has ever had a chance to try and be her own person and not live in fear. She loves the life she has at college and with her roommates. Across the hall from the girls, live Campbell (Kenz’s boyfriend) and his best friends, Dick and Young. Since Kenz and Campbell are dating, there are many occasions that everyone is together. Maddie and Young somehow get caught up in a ‘friends with benefits’ relationship. For Maddie and Young, this works beautifully, since they are both all about sex and playing the field. Neither one of them is interested in any type of commitment.

One day, Young realizes he wants more from Maddie than just sex – he has feelings for her. Young decides he is done being a player, and he wants a meaningful relationship with Maddie. This scares Maddie, but Young comes up with the idea that if they abstain from sex, they can learn more about each other.

Ms. Dahlgren did a beautiful job showing how friendship can turn into love and passion. She hit on several emotional aspects that would be experienced by someone who went through what Maddie did, and showed how a person can learn to break down their walls, begin sharing, and learn to love and trust someone other than herself. There was a point where it looked like Young might not get his happily ever after with Maddie. I was left feeling crushed for Young, and hoping that things would change. The love and support of her friends (including Young), helped Maddie overcome her past and begin healing, leading to her no longer having a fear of commitment, and giving both her and Young a well-deserved happily ever after.

It should be noted that “Commitment” by Heather Dahlgren is book 2 in The Change Series; however, it can be read as a standalone novel.

I thoroughly enjoyed reading “Commitment” and getting to know more about Young and Maddie. Maddie’s past was beyond troubling, while Young came from a supportive, caring, and fun family. This book had it all. There were intense emotions, healing, passion, and hot, steamy scenes. If you are looking for a book with passion in more ways than one, a heroine that is strong, yet fragile, and a great love story, this is it.

Maddie and Young intrigued me in Changed and I was waiting to get my hands on their story. Unfortunately life got in the way and it took me a little longer than expected.

Young is a hoot- irreverent, fun loving and smokin' hot! He and Maddie have chemistry off the charts and he is beginning to realize that for the first time ever, he wants more than the slam-bam-thank-you-ma'am that has been his MO for years. Maddie doesn't do relationships-ever- and he knows it so he has to decide how to win her over. And we see a whole new side of Young here- the fun loving "I could give a fuck what you think" guy is still there but we also get caring and attentive Young who has a depth he previously kept hidden.

Maddie knows he is breaking down her walls but she is as defenseless against him as she is scared to death of letting him in. She has been raised to believe no man will ever stick around and you can never let them see you as anything less than perfect. Her secrets aren't pretty and she is certain he will run for the hills if he ever finds out about them.

I enjoyed their story and felt for Maddie. The down side for me was the constant use of the same descriptive terms- it's one of those things that once I noticed it, it just jumped out at me even more. There's still one couple left in this group with a story to be told and I bet it will be a fun one too- it's the quiet ones you need to watch out for, and Becca and Dick meet that description!

What kind of mother turns her daughter into a hooker at 16 yrs. old? That's the life that Maddie had to live until she was able to get out on her own and go off to college. She was told by her mother that men where not to be trusted. Take what you can get from them but NEVER think its forever or love.
So that is how Maddie lives her life. She finds nothing wrong with picking up guys in bars and having sex with them in bathrooms. She even goes far enough to have sex with more than one in a night. Is she a slut? whore? or what her mother made her?
Young is a cocky, funny and isn't afraid of anything. He loves True or Dare and challenges his friends to Strip Poker daily! He comes from a loving home and lives life to the fullest. Maddie picks him up at a bar and goes home with him. Thinking they will never see each other again. Next thing they are living in the same apt. building. Things heat up between them and Young wants more but to Maddie it all about Sex! Until she thinks he may be having feelings for someone else which makes her evaluate her feeling for him.
Young makes a deal with her that they will be friends who hang out, NO SEX, and get to know each other. He plan works and Maddie starts to fall for him. Things are going good then an unexpected visitor knocks on the door and shatters Maddie's world. Bringing back old feelings.

Good story but quite a few spelling errors. Someone needs to use spell check or something.

Commitment is a must read story of healing, friendship, passion, and love (it is also worth mentioning that there are lots of hot sex scenes ;) ). Without giving too much away I just want to say that I feel so much for Maddie, her mother made her do horrible things and it explains a lot, why she sleeps around so much and sees sex as just sex with no desire for intimacy. Sex is something Maddie hides behind. I really liked seeing a different side to Young in this, yes, he is a playboy but he has it bad for Maddie, he wants her even when she continues to distance herself and sleep around. The genuineness behind Young's desire to be with her is endearing, he is the ultimate hot, loveable goofball. Some things that I thought about when reading this were: Will Maddie realize that Young really cares for her and that there could be more to it than just sex? Will she get that she is worthy of love and doesn't have to be afraid to be in a relationship with him? Will she tell him about her past? Will they get their happy ending? I was hooked! I rooted for Maddie and Young from page one. Another 5 star read from this new indie author. I would recommend reading Changed first as it is book one in the series and that is where the characters are first introduced. Cannot wait for Dick & Becca's story to come out! Well done!

Committed is the second book in the Changed Series and it follows Young and Maddie. We met Young and Maddie in Changed and I was anxiously waiting for this book to come out because I wanted to see how the relationship between Young and Maddie played out.
Maddie has always been told since she was young to always look perfect and never get attached to men because they will all leave. Maddie no longer has a relationship with her mother and she has become a pro at burying her past which her friends. Maddie can see that Young is becoming attached to her and she denies she feels the same, so Young comes up with a way to be with her without the commitment of a title.
When Maddie and Young have fallen into the groove of their non-relationship Maddie's past comes back into her life. How will Maddie react? How will Young and her friends feel about her after they find out about the way she grew up? Can Maddie fight her past and become committed to Young or will her demons continue to haunt her?
I really enjoyed this book! Heather did an amazing job coming up with a unique storyline that kept me interested. We were able to keep tabs on the rest of crew we met in book 1 and got a little clue on what may be happening in book 3. If you loved book 1 Changed, buy book 2 Committed NOW, you won’t regret it!!

This book went beyond my expectations, The story of Maddie And Young touched me on so many levels,
We met them in changed but their story is Different and you will want to read it.
They have been sleeping together for a year no commitments just sex and Hot sex it is.

Now Young wants more and Maddie refuses she doesnt do commitments.

Maddie Had to do unthinkable things for her mother at the age of 16, she was taught to always look
her best and that men only wanted her for one thing. Now as an adult Maddie sleeps her way through men
always has a happy face on and sees nothing wrong with what she does for her it's how she copes.

Young well he's the idiot friend that lives with Campbell and Dick and we already know he sleeps around,
however he has two parents that raised him right and love him.

Young will melt your heart the things he says and does for her starts to break down her walls.

I adored his story and how their love starts to grow , it takes a long time for them to realize they are a perfect fit. there is nothing Young wont do to protect her.

We also had ALOT of laughs,, the truth or dare games had me cracking up, it's a great group of friends. I also cried theres some heart breaking moments in this book that gutted me. but again as usual, you her one of them you hurt them all.
I can't wait to read Conflicted.

I enjoy reading the stories of this group of friends. This is the second book in the Changed series and it is all about the relationship between Maddie and Young.

This story circles around the premise of commitment (hence the title) and being able to change their ways of living. An idea that Maddie is against because of the way she was taught and brought up to be perfection and to carry her self where beauty was everything. Relationships were not to go any further other than of sexual encounters and that no one man should take up her personal time in an exclusive relationship.

Then come in Tyler Young. A man who was carefree, was not easily embarrassed, and who did not care about what people thought of him. Something about Maddie after that one night stand got him wanted to have more with this mysterious girl.

A story that will give you the feels of indecisions, wondering if they is something more than just sex, and to take a chance when the one that one special person you meet in life worth more than you least expected. A 4 stars must read on overcoming a pass that you cannot get away from.

Awesome

Get ready for a HOT and steamy, emotional rollercoaster that will have you alternating between tearing up and laughing. This book takes you the full scale! Blood isn't a necessity to being part of a family. And this group of friends are definitely a great family full of love and support.

Getting to know a different side to sexy, dirty talking, smartass Young just makes you like him more. There's nothing hotter than a man who is willing to give up anything for the one he loves; and who is fiercely loyal and protective of his friends and his girl.

Poor Maddie, I have to say she's a strong and amazing woman to overcome what she has. Just when she thinks she's going to be able to have what she's never dared believe in, she's confronted by it head-on. I have great respect for her being able to do what needs doing, and not spiraling.
As you can see these characters have become real to me and that just shows the great writing skill Heather has. I can't wait to get my hands on Dick! ... And Becca!!

I received this for an honest review and I have to say that this was an enjoyable read.

This is Maddie and Young's story. Maddie has had a traumatic upbringing for which has probably shaped the way she is. Maddie enjoys sex and is very out there when it comes to it. Young is a healthy young man who loves sex. These two are absolutely perfect for each. They are the female and male versions of each other. Both made up of the same cloth so to say. Except Young knows what he wants and that is Maddie in a committed relationship with him. The only problem is Maddie does not believe in them.

This was a very good and funny book. The games these people play are funny and quirky. An enjoyable read..

I liked the story of Maddie and Young. We met them in the first book and could tell there was some chemistry there. Maddie of course has issues that stem back to her childhood with her mother. It was ingrained in her not to get into a relationship with a man. That they will only disappoint and only wanted one thing anyways. But her feelings for Young are different. And Young is different. It takes these two a while to finally see what is right in front of them, each other. Can they hold on to that, or will Maddie's lesson's from Mommy dearest ruin the best thing she ever had? ~Chell

Emotionally Sweet

I was not expecting Maddie's backstory at all. Of course during Changed I wondered what was behind her bold sexuality and flippant behavior, didn't expect her reasons. My heart broke for her, while it turned to jelly seeing Young throw caution to the wind. I love all these characters, their banter and interaction is great. I really waited for the book to have one of those moments where I anxiously read to get through to the happy parts. Again, surprise....what? Read it.
