It's always great to see new how-to books available, I enjoy leafing through them to see what hints and tips I can pick up, this one was an eye opener in as much as it is not for the real beginner. This book would sit well on the shelf of a more intermediate drawer and whilst it does cover basic equipment information the artwork examples and techniques could be off-putting to a beginner or less skilled but very enthusiastic individual. The quality of the instruction is good and allows for you to work through at your own pace although some stages did jump a little on and you needed to have covered all the material previously in order to get it.
Overall, this is generally a good book to have if you are into Manga and enjoy spending time submerged in drawing and creation.

Full of incorrect information that teaches you how to draw disproportionally and how to waste your time on the tiniest part of your drawing.

I wish I could say that this was great or even the tiniest bit useful.

It does what the title says: it's a crash course. It gets you the basic details of proportions and body shapes and all of that stuff. It's not too in-depth though; it doesn't really cover different archetypes too much or anything like that. It does a good job in providing approximations and measurements though (i.e. they really emphasize the use of heads as a measuring tool, which is useful). If you're looking to do a specific kind of manga drawing, it might be worth your time to invest in a book that might be a little more specific, but otherwise, if you just want to learn the very basics, this isn't too bad.

Very solid beginning drawing manga book. The only drawback- not enough about how to draw clothes, but the basics are really well presented, clear and not too overwhelming while still giving great results.
