The McClane Apocalypse #2

The McClane Apocalypse: Book 2

Rate this book
Having survived the first few months of the apocalypse, the McClane family forges on through turmoil and strife. John and Reagan make a fateful trip on horseback through the dense Tennessee forest to the nearest city for desperately-needed supplies. However, this will prove more dangerous than they could have ever anticipated, and they quickly learn just how far humanity has plummeted into a well of darkness and despair. And Reagan will discover just how far John will go to keep her safe. The family’s own humanity is tested as they aid those less fortunate from lawless hordes that are raping, robbing and murdering anyone who gets in their way. Just when Kelly’s demons seem to be quieting, a new threat ascends the farm, one that he can’t simply frighten off with suppressive fire. The tough-as nails Army Rangers living on the farm will do whatever it takes to keep this family safe and hold onto the McClane compound at any cost. Fraught with human emotion, complex relationships, and the continued fight for survival, book two takes the reader on a thrill ride that doesn’t let up- not even after the last page has been turned. Look for the final installment The McClane Apocalypse, Book Three out fall 2014.

I live on a small farm in Ohio where I tend a shabby garden, take care of my crazy horses and chickens and enjoy writing. Check out my website: www.katemorrisauthor.com for recipes from the book, my blog, articles and information about books two and three. Book Two out now.

I am the author of the new trilogy, The McClane Apocalypse. Books one and two are out now. Check them out on Amazon, Barnes & Noble or iBooks.

The McClane Apocalypse, Book One of the series. Follow the McClane family as they struggle to survive on their TN farm. Romantic suspense filled with hot Army Rangers and a broken and beautifully flawed female protagonist. Don't read chapter two if you need to be anywhere any time soon!

I read book one and decided I was interested enough to see where the story went. however In this book I found the characters started to become caricatures. Reagan's attitude to John started to get really ridiculous. Sure the trauma she suffered can lead to major suffering in the victim But wow. This was way over-laboured. And as for Pollyanna. Sorry I mean Hannah. Nobody is that sweet or kind. I felt this book started to majorly slip into stereotypes. Hannah the Saint wears white. The mother figure. Reagen the troubled child genius with a disturbance in her psyche wears mostly black (and some white). This book lacks nuance. As for The 'baddies' that turn up are white trash, black or Hispanic and look like they've been in prison. Really? the only non-white people in this book are ex-cons?!?! At that point and decided to stop reading. I won't bother with book three - this volume was too two-dimensional for me and started to feel offensive.

I enjoyed this book much better than the first one!!! There's a little more of adventure and more romance too, and I'm already used to the writting, so that also helps :) Still, there are too many descriptions of useless things in my opinon (really, what's with the food and haversting thing??). I'm getting a feeling that, in fact, these three first books of the series could really have been only one, if you get rid of so many details about things that are not very interesting, at least for me. But, all in all, I'm enjoying the story and so there I go for book number 3 😋

3.5 star read

This was a good read, better than the first book even.

Reagan is starting to become less unbearable in comparison to the first book.

Hannah was definitely my fav character in this book. Especially in comparison to Kelly’s angst.

As with the last book, there are unnecessary random sprinklings of islamaphobia, sexism, and racism that make you pause. These sprinkles add nothing to the story, in fact if you deleted these lines from the book, the story itself will remain the same. These lines left me more confused than anything.

Just as with book one, book two does not disappoint!

Book one of the series captivates you into the realistic could be happenings of the apocalypse. Book two dives deeper into the everyday life and struggles of the end of the world lifestyle. This book, just like the first book, will leave you not wanting to put it down, because you just have to know what's going to happen with the characters that you immediately relate and grow attached to. I can't wait to dive in to book 3!

Great book!

By far one of the best series I have ever read! Can't wait to read more about this dynamic family! Highly recommend! Kate Morris is another Nora Roberts just in a different genre!

Probably worth the 3 bucks

I did have to skip several pages. Some boring parts. The book is long so I guess that's a plus.

Ok

The are some elements of the book that were a turn off. But for the most part I enjoyed it. Just not 5 star enjoyable.

Listened to this on Audible. Great story, but it isn't about survival in the apocalypse as much as it is about women who can't fall in love.

2,5 stars.

I'm sorry I feel bad to give the book 2,5 stars. I don't know why but I felt something wasn't good enough there~or maybe I just wasn't so into it?

Review:
The writing: Okay. (3,5 stars)

The character: Reagan was something. She was so childish. Annoyed me, swearing too much and her behaviour? I don't like her. Tired of her oh whatever~
And John also was too kind to her, even liked her! It was pissed me off the most. That woman is too much!
Kelly-Hannah, they were so cute. I liked them.
Sue-Derek, their part was small or I say so distant, esp Derek. Also Herb, Mary etc.
So well, the characters were not fully developed. (3 stars)

The story and plot: The plot was weak. I'm disappointed. It was like, 70% romance in it.
Oh also I have serious problem here:
1. Where's that army and the government? Gone? Like gone forever? Weird.
2. Tsunami. That Tsunami hit America, happened once (or more) and then nothing, just that. But everyone goes crazy, killing each other. Just weird. Where's the army again? President? Gone. (2 stars)

This is crazy to even say, but it's better than book one, which really liked. There is a ton more action!! The theme of this book should've been "Let the Bodies Hit the Floor." John comes alive in this second part when they go to the city for supplies. He's not the "nice" guy everyone thinks from book one. Ranger gets in touch! Loved it! No sissy characters here! The parts at the farm were a little romancy, but it's cool cuz Kelly's still a bada** and it loks like his brother's gonna betoo. The book rocked. Now I have to wai until fall for the next one. Well writeen and entertaining. Good job, Miss Morris. Telling all my friends.

A definite read!

I truly enjoyed this story and I am looking forward to reading book 3. It was exciting and I caught myself almost looking ahead to see if something would happen. But, I gave it only 4 stars because there are a few exceptions. Most situations are too dragged out and it gets to the point you want to say "alright already!" (But I guess that's what makes it exciting) Also, typos do not normally bother me (book one was riddled with them) but if I'm going to pay $5.99 for a kindle book, I expect none and there was plenty. But when all is said and done I'm still going to read book 3!

Good story

I said it with the first and I still feel this way: this story would benefit greatly from a good editor. There aren't many typos or mistakes, just stilted conversation and areas that could use some serious cutting. But I am really into the story even with those issues. It is odd that this is written by a female author because it seems to have a sexist slant. Could I be a badass during an apocalypse? No. But the way it's always referred to as "the men" keeping them safe, making decisions, doing the labor is glaringly evident.
So other than those gripes, I'm enjoying the story and will definitely be reading the rest of the series.

Interesting premise for the cause of the apocalypse. The main thing I like is there is just enough romance to keep the story from being all about war. I like that all of the characters have strengths and in their own way. All of the main male characters are strong and have skills much needed to ensure the survival of the group while at the same time can nurture young children and provide for the group. The women are strong I their own right . It is just

a good all around series and I think it would even appeal to men who are not adverse to a little romance in their story. I cannot wait to begin the next book in the now six book series.

Great Read

I started with a sample of book one and quickly bought the trilogy. I raced through the first one and enjoyed the second one even more. I doubt it's going to take more than two days to get through the third. I like apocalypse books but don't like when they are too political or religious or they mock those who aren't prepared for the end of the world. This has none of that. It's about family and loyalty and how important trust is when times are tough. Really enjoyed everything.

Better than the 1rst installment, we saw the progress of the relationships (and lack of) between the protagonists, well developed characters, fast-pack action, alpha male and badass little Doc.

Mrs Morris made a great effort with detailing the inner workings of the group (and perharps sometines a little bit repetitive).

Can't wait for the final in the Trilogy, hopefully Sept. 2014

In the first book Reagan is a self reliable tough chick but the more she hangs around John the more submissive and clumsy she becomes. I really don't like the way this is leading since a Woman can be he usual self and still love a man. She doesn't turn to a completely different person. If this continues I will not read the last book.

McClane Apocalypse book two

It ended all too soon. I can not wait to delve into the next book and explore what new developments await the family. Your heart aches reading some of these situations knowing that should or world end in whatever situation as we know it, many of these situations would, indeed, come into fruition.

I liked this book a lot more than the first. I read a lot of reviews of people disappointed in Reagans character in the book but I disagree. Reagans struggles in the city with John show the progression of her PTSD. I think it makes it more realistic and believable as a post apocalyptic world!

What's up with book number 3, can't wait for it.
Funny thing, I was done with the book, when Reagan felt too childish at the beginning...
and suddenly I'm waiting for the next book...:)
