Most fifteen year old girls are trying to figure out who they are; I’m trying to stay alive long enough to figure out what.

I’ve always been on the run. From my guilt about the things I couldn’t change, and from the voice in my head that won’t let me be normal. But yesterday Tommy and I were in a car accident on the way home from school. When I woke up, Tommy was gone, and

In Between the Layers, readers are dropped into a new world with our heroine who is forced to be a symbol of hope and of restoration.

This world is absolutely terrifying. Slavery is still in existence. Magic is filled to the brim based on the eye color of a person. That idea alone is just brilliant and so interesting that I want to know as much as I can about the makings of this world. I want to know all of the history, how this world cam

A wonderfully refreshing read!

We meet Sera, a 15yr old girl that hasn't had the easiest life. Walking home from school one afternoon her brothers friend Tommy pulls over to give her a lift. They were heading to see her dad at the cemetery, something she's been dreading. While in the car Sera's invisible friend Reeky pops into her head and gives her a warning. Lightning strikes the road ahead and they plummet into the river. No matter how hard they try they couldn't escape.

Next time Sera wakes up

What really captured my attention about this book at first glance wasn't its cover. It was that first sentence in the blurb. I was immediately intrigued by the main character and the mystery behind her situation.

Between the Layers is a refreshing read about 15 years old Sera and how she woke up in a strange place after the car accident with her friend Tommy. Tommy was not with her when she woke up and she was immediately in a dangerous situation. I was thrown into a magical world and I personall

This is a wonderful story about a girl who thinks she’s human, but when she’s in an accident, she is somehow transported into another place and boy does it get crazy from there. I am really hoping this is going to be a series because I would love to know so much more. And though the story wraps up nicely, there’s a little opening for some more to come. Ms Sara I hope you get my message to write more!! :) I had to laugh when Sera keeps thinking about Alice in Wonderland, that she fell down the ho ...more

Between the Layers is a cute fantasy read that is like a bit of Iron Fey series mixed with Alice in Wonderland. The story begins with Sera getting into a car accident and waking up in another land. The people there are confused by her arrival and some of her are convinced she is the lost Princess who will save them.
In the beginning the 15 year old Sera comes off as very dramatic. She just wants to return home, really close minded to what the people are telling her about the land she is in. The

I sunk straight into this story and loved the strange world Sera was plunged into. A million questions are thrown up within the first couple chapters and the drive to find the answers is truly captivating.

Sera is quite prone to temper tantrums, which is was a little monotonous at times but, I suppose, fairly typical of a 15-year-old girl who finds herself suddenly immersed in a world full of strangers and magic and fraught with danger. The plot contains a lot of information and a varied selectio

Such a different take on the fantasy genre. I enjoyed this book a lot.
It was about Sera and how she navigated her way home from a nightmare of her own creation... well sort of.
Sera and Tommy were on their way to Sera's dads cementary when all of a sudden, the bridge they were on, was struck by lightening. It is up to Sera to navigate this new world she lands in. It is up to her to find Tommy and get him home, if she can even trust any of the people she meets, to help her.
It is a journey that

I don't want to say too much about this until our book club meeting has taken place, but I will say this a solid debut novel from someone I kind of know! How cool is that?! It is also the first ebook I've ever read. Yeah, I read it on my phone, which wasn't my favorite thing in the world, but it wasn't horrible. Anyhow, I really enjoyed the world 15 year old Sera found herself in, and when the story ended, I wanted more. I'll say no more until I talk to the fellow book club ladies, and ask the a ...more

SaraJean Panek has loved books since before she could read. One of her earliest memories is of sitting with one of her two older brothers and following along the page as he read her “Rapunzel.” She’s been telling her own stories nearly as long. “Between the Layers” is SaraJean's debut novel. She travels at every opportunity, but currently lives in her hometown of Virginia Beach and spends most of ...more
