Anderson 'This is a must have series for those of you traveling with kids! My 11 year old had such a great time in Rome using the book to find all the items at each location. Best of all our oldest son was home on college break and it was so great watching him help her hunt for the items at each location. That was priceless! I love that not only are these great for the kids but that I learn new things as well.' - Mrs. B. 'My daughters (ages 7 and 9) are so excited to use this when we go to Europe...a terrific idea of having the kids earn a certain number of points for each landmark they find, with the goal of getting to 100. Looking for a fun (and educational!) way to make the most of your next family vacation or field trip? Look no further.

Say "adiós/au revoir/ arrivederci/ goodbye" to hum-drum sightseeing. Instead, say "hola/ bonjour/ buongiorno/ hello" to memorable vacations, with your kids excited to explore the sights with you!

The Scavenger Hunt Adventure series takes your young travelers through the famous sights of cities, engaging them with exciting scavenger hunt activities as you discover city landmarks together.

Catherine's favorite quote comes from S. Rao: "There's no destination. The journey is all that there is, and it can be very, very joyful." She believes these words ring true for travel and the joy of the journey - unless that journey happens to be a long plane ride with an energetic toddler (Atlanta to Singapore, 24+ hours, middle seats)!

Cannot recommend this book enough! We took this to Rome with our 9 and 6 year olds and it really gave a focus to our trip and kept the kids engaged in some full on sight seeing. I would highly recommend this to anyone taking their kids on a city break to Rome and we will certainly be taking copies of the other city missions if we go away on a city break with them again.

This is the second book I’ve read in the Scavenger Hunt Adventure series and I can say that I continue to be very impressed. The quality of the text and illustrations is equally excellent, and the attractive, colourful presentation will draw children in and keep them enthralled. The cover is bright and cheerful, with wording and illustrations indicative of the general theme. As with Mission Paris, Mission Rome is aimed at children in the 8-11 years age range, but would equally suit older teenagers. Adults, too, could certainly use the book as a tour guide.

The main objective of the book is to give children something interesting and exciting to focus on whilst on holiday with their family. Two maps are located at the front, one showing the location of Italy globally, the other depicting Rome’s situation within Italy. The mission rules are also clearly listed here.

Tasks and investigations are presented in a lively and fun way, the successful completion of each resulting in the allocation of points - the ultimate goal being to reach a score of 100. Reaching this goal enables participants to become a Secret International Agency (SIA) special agent. Parents/trusted adults are asked to perform the role of case officers, and must accompany the children and supervise them during the tasks. The final decision regarding point awards is also at the discretion of case officer.

SIA special agents secretly collect intelligence from around the world. The books present agents as holding a privileged position – which should certainly appeal to children’s imagination and competitiveness. The book encourages children to give themselves a special code name (like 007) and stresses that ‘only a few have what it takes’ to join. How exciting is that?

There are fifteen missions to accomplish, all clearly listed on a Contents page, which allows agents and case officers to navigate easily through the book, along with a list of mission rules. The missions are varied and exciting, and include historical information about each location. Most of the major sites around Rome are visited, starting with the Forum. Others include Capitoline Hill, the Colosseum and the Sistine Chapel. The missions aim to help develop many useful skills, including map, plan and photo analysis and interpretation, problem solving and interpretation of data – all done in a really fun way. The children are also encouraged to carefully record and store their intelligence or ‘intel’ – the word used for a spy’s discovered information.

The final mission is an ‘Anytime Mission’. Would-be agents are advised to read this one through carefully before starting on the rest. These tasks can be completed at various sites around the city – at any time - so children are urged to put their ‘situational awareness’ into practice – meaning they should always be ‘on alert’. Included are fun things such as sampling pizza, speaking a few words and phrases in Italian to hotel or restaurant staff and examining and describing an Italian Euro coin.

Answers to all the missions are at the end, so all case officers can check carefully before allowing the award of points! A final mission, to take an excellent photograph, is presented as a competition. Entries can be posted online to the given website – with a prize being offered the winner.

From the perspective of a former geography and history teacher, I have found this book to be an excellent resource for a city study. As a travel lover, I see it of enormous value to families on a city break to Rome. Other books in the series include missions to London, Paris, Barcelona and Washington, D.C. and more are to follow. I look forward to reading them.

"‘Mission Rome"’ written by Catherine Aragon and designed by Nada Orlic is a part of "‘A Scavenger Hunt Adventure"’ series -– the entertaining, innovative and educating series of books that help their readers to learn about particular city in a very special way.

From the moment I saw the front cover of this book I knew this is something special – I think the closest description would be “this is the thinnest, yet greatest guide I would like to take with me on a trip and have great time.”

Though mainly written for the younger audience, ‘Mission Rome’ would be also great read for the adults. In a very entertaining way this guide manages to present the best Rome can offer, all wrapped up in the game of scavenger hunt. Besides leading reader through the most known city sights, it will introduce you the city history, Italian language and many fascinating stories that even seasoned travelers some of them would hear for the very first time.

As aforementioned, the whole guide is made like a game that you need to finish visiting all the city sights while doing some funny activities in process – making your (next) visit to Rome something to remember for a long time.

Overall, "‘A Scavenger Hunt Adventure"’ is something that cannot be recommended enough -– one has to see it from own eyes.

I was given a copy of this book by the author for the purpose of unbiased review, while all the presented information is based on my impressions.

Another delightful and intelligent guide for young visitors this time the city is Rome.
After having read the author's, Mission Washingron D:C:, I was happy to see a Mission Rome. I live in Italy and have been to Rome many times and I must say the interesting insights into the city and its history were much appreciated.
The "agents" again must score 100 points to get their official certificate. According to the author, they need, "a critical eye, and eye for details and sharp eyes to spot things from a distance." When their mission is accomplished I'm sure they will have come away with a deep understanding of the Eternal City that people from all over the world come to visit.
Suggestions to eat the food, (pizza and ice cream!!) count the famous Spanish Steps, and photograph a point of interest in a unique way, will surely whet the"agents" curiosity!
I appredciate too the pronunciation help for the Italian words!
In all ,the author has put together an amazing account of the city that the visitors won't forget!!!
Looking forward to other books in this series!

This very clever book of roughly 60 pages is a perfect gift to give a child traveling to Rome, Italy. It will keep them happily occupied as they visit Rome's most famous sites, and they'll come home knowing a lot about what they've seen. Accompanying adults are the "case officers" for the "intelligence operative" child.

The child earns points for locating things shown in the book (lots of photos) which are also explained succinctly. I liked that the child did not compete against the other "intelligence operatives" but instead competed against him/herself, to qualify with enough points to get "hired" for the job after the "test" was over.

There are also Special Missions too, which are designed to encourage the child to try new foods, to learn to speak some Italian, and to understand the money and culture and history better. All in all, I could see the teacher behind it all, and I heartily approve!

While it is sold as an e-book, I think the paperback is the best option, since the child is supposed to fill in information along the way, and it can make a nice souvenir later in life to recall their trip.

A great informative fun book for adults and children alike. The cover is eye catching and each page has great pictures with little facts about Rome. The book has 15 missions which can be dated plus bonus Anytime Missions.
This is the first book I have read in this series if they rest of the books are as good as this I can't wait to try them as well.

I got this book from good reads first reads. It's been a while since I've been to Rome but I can absolutely see this book coming in handy to make any trip more manageable. It's got a great blend of information and iSpy like fun. Some families might have a had time outfitting all adventures with a camera like the book recommends but that still does not take away from the fun of the book.
