I love Jennifer’s writing style I really, really do and while I really liked Dante’s Fire, I’m not going to lie I had some issues with the storyline *sigh* It may just be me projecting my own insecurities onto the characters but there were aspects especially close to the end that I would really like to see altered. It may make me a selfish bitch with the context of these issues but you know what, I DON’T CARE.

In true superhero style, Dante has a dual identity – Daniel the mailroom clerk by day, Dante – billionaire, protector of women by night. He’s known Selina since she started working for Inferno Enterprises, the connection and chemistry they share from the start is undeniable. However, Dante’s double life and nature of his ‘service’ has convinced him that he is destined to spend his life alone.

Selena is a wonderfully strong character, a product of the foster-care system she still retains an innate kindness and depth of compassion rare in most people but even more so due to her upbringing. These are all important factors necessary with the unusual requirements in order to endure any form of relationship with Dante.

Both personas come crashing together one fateful, traumatic night allowing the story and relationship to progress. Here’s the thing that bothered me, while I really liked the way in which Dante was able to help protect women, the other aspect of his ‘service’ was re-introducing them to intimacy without fear. So yeah, this is a big no go for me. I was thinking of all the ways that it shouldn’t be his job to do this. Yes, I got that they felt safe with him, but surely they would have had someone else to do this. Dante could even train a trusty side-kick to do this – YES. It’s this aspect that’s kinda a deal breaker for me. Although he wants a (monogamous) relationship, it’s still his ‘duty’ to help these women re-adjust following trauma – seriously NO. Dude, no matter the circumstances touching another woman intimately is freaking CHEATING. Does this make me a bad person for not wanting him to help these women in THAT WAY – I don’t freaking think so. There are other ways, there really, really are *rant over*

Actually, I had a little bit of an issue with the ending as well. It would have been nice to have an overall resolution, one that involved the not having to re-introduce women to intimacy would have been an added bonus. The introduction of a pivotal character to Dante right at the end of the book, made little sense to me and only added to the conflict I felt about him as a whole.

While Dante’s Fire is a steamy superhero romance, I think I had too many plot issues to fully appreciate the characters.

It's time to meet a new kind of hero...

"Her gut screamed there was something so much deeper hidden within his piercing eyes...And then there was that scar. A chill skitted down her spine. She'd never asked what had happened to him, and he'd never offered. Most people averted their gaze pointedly - the jagged, deadly gash marked so deeply into his olive skin you could almost imagine the slice of the blade. Still, she believed it only added to his good looks. With his long dark hair that brushed his shoulders, sensual dark eyes and carved mouth, he was a rebel dream."

"Selina Rogers stared at the closed door and shook off the idea that Dan was more than a mailman."

Dante/Daniel is one smokin hot man! He rescues women by night as Dante and lays low in the mailroom by day as Daniel. He may have an exciting life, but he was living it alone. Can this superhero have his own happy ending?

Then there is Selina. A life in foster care after her parents' death; grown into a successful, proud, strong woman. "She may not have had anyone waiting in the wings to praise her, but knowing she baked the damn cake on her own without help made eating it all by herself that much sweeter." But she was doing it all alone.

They knew each other during the light; but one night their paths crossed in the dark.

"It was official. She'd been transported into a science fiction novel where villains were marked by mysterious burning symbols and strange men sat in her bedroom. She gave herself up to the night and the paths it took her."

And then everything changed. As Selina was being healed by the mysterious Dante she was falling in love with two men...the same man. But will Dante let himself take a chance on love?

"I love you, Dante Stark. I want the chance to be with you. When you disappear to help another woman, I want to be waiting for you. I want to be the one to guide you back into the light. Don't you think we both deserve to be happy?"

------------------------------------------

I was given an ARC in exchange for an honest review. I have been a long time fan of Jennifer Probst and have loved all of her works. For some reason when this one came around I automatically thought it would not be for me. Man was I so totally wrong! I absolutely, without a doubt, loved this book. I couldn't put it down. Dante/Daniel is the perfect man and a superhero; you can't go wrong there. Selina is a strong woman that has it all together; but her vulnerable side comes out after an attack in the night. Dante turns her night of horror around.

And then at the last moment we are introduced to Sage; another hero like Dante is out there! Will they work together; will they seek and find more heroes like them?

All I could think was, Yes!! Jennifer Probst will give us more stories from this world! Can not wait to see what the future holds for Dante and Selina! And of course see the story of these new kinds of superheros unfold! This book was amazing and the possibility of a whole world of these heroes and their stories is exciting!

Jennifer you have done it again, thank you for the awesome read.

3.5 Stars - ARC Review

This book feels like a labor of love. How do I know? There is a genuine care in the writing. The characters are infused with warmth and love that emanates from the them to the reader.

The story itself is a bit unusual with a Bruce Wayne type character possessing a unique superhero skill. It is a gift not only of strength and paranormal ability, but also of empathy. Truly, creating this character must have been an inspiration from the heart.

Within this crime-fighting context is a love story with a familiar trope. At points in the narrative, neither Dante or Selina want to take risks necessary for the relationship to develop. It is much easier to hide under the guise of “protecting” the other’s heart, than to actually take a risk:

“I thought you had guts. Instead, you’d rather hang on to a perfect memory than reach from something real. Something messy and unsure, but possibly the best thing that could have ever happened to either of us.”

The cynic in me wonders if Selina could really accept Dante’s “job”. I have no doubt that his heart is with Selina, but his mission leaves a lot of room for misunderstandings. The level of trust between them has to be through the roof and beyond. Perhaps that ability is Selina’s own superhuman power.

A labor of the heart, Dante’s Fire is a sweet, fun, and heart-warming story that stands apart.

Thank you to the author for the opportunity to read this book in exchange for an honest review.

Which superhero stands out to you? Spiderman? Wonder Woman? Batman? Thor? What if the superhero brought pain to people that harmed women in the worst way possible? In Dante’s Fire, that’s exactly what happens with Dante. He has been given a gift that honestly, I wish was real. Dante has been given the gift of fire. Each time a man or men abuse women he marks them, and they are never able to harm another women. To me I think this superpower kicks ass.

Dante has to decided in life that he will never find a spouse or a women to truly love due to his random leaving in the night. He also never lets himself get close to women that are attached. That is until he Selina not only crosses his path when she is mugged, but when she crosses his path daily at Inferno Enterprises.
Selina is a woman that has risen from foster care and made herself successful. She has worked for everything she has accomplished. When she is attacked Dante comes to her rescue. As he helps her heal, lines are crossed, but she feels an internal pull between the man that visits her at night and Daniel, the office mailman.

Dante’s Fire is a story that touched my soul. As a female, wife, and mother, your worst fear for yourself as well as my daughter is brought to the forefront. I just hope that in life, we all have our own real life superhero that will fight and protect the women that they hold dear.

Are we ready for a new kind of hero?

Left alone after the death of his parents, Dante is left to a life of a loner. " The women he involved himself with were alway brief companions meant to ease his isolation, with no expectations on either side. He had connected physically with many, intellectually with a few, and emotionally with none. Until Selina... "

The attraction of course is mutual. Selina realizes he is not just what he seems. There is something more to this man that intrigues and draws her to him. Soon she will find out personally he is deeply committed to helping women in distress.

This is another of Jennifer Probst's brilliant stories. What begins as a straight forward story of attraction, develops into an all consuming passion with extra ordinary obstacles. How do you build a relationship with a man who is destined to help women in distress while you are left alone?

This brilliantly written story will seduce you into the darkness that is Dante's life. With Selina's brightness and need for love you can bet this plot will keep you emotionally involved.

Mesmerized! Once I started reading I could not put this book down until the last page. Absolutely awesome, beautifully written and a must read for everyone! Selina and Dante (Daniel) are a powerful couple. Dante lives with a dark secret by night and works as a mail clerk by day in a company he owns by no one knows the truth except his best friend, Chase who runs it for him. Dante feels that he is destined to be alone, Selina works for Dante's company and is friends with him. She is ambitious and is working on a real estate deal that could make her a partner until one night she is brutally attacked and is rescued by a masked Superhero who is Dante. He stays with her every night helping her heal while falling in love. If I could I would give it a 10 star rating. Jennifer Probst is a fabulous author and I would highly recommend this book to everyone.

Jennifer Probst released a paranormal? Say what?!? I really enjoyed this book. It's a quick read. I usually consider her books beach reads. This one is a little bit darker than that. Though this is NOT a dark book. Dante really is a new kind of hero. I haven't read about one like him. This is the story of two people who have yet to truly find their place in the world. They both are successful, strong characters. Yet they lack in emotional connections to others. They have fantastic chemistry. There are some steamy scenes. I will most definitely read the next book.

Dante’s Fire by Jennifer Probst is probably one of the best superhero stories I have read in a while. Jennifer Probst has the ability to take a genre and make it her own whether it just Contemporary or Paranormal she stands out. Trust her when she says a new kind of hero, Dante is the best kind of hero. I already love Jennifer’s writing style and the bits of humor she instills in her stories the touching moments between the main characters that stand out in your mind and it all makes for a memorable reads. Dante’s Fire is no exception, it’s just plain exceptional.

Dante Stark was born with a power, it wasn’t until the horrible rape and murder of his mother that he figured out what it was and how to use it. Magically he is called away to help woman either before or after they are physically attacked and he helps them heal mentally. Dante owns a powerful real estate company but with his need to remain anonymous he hands the job of running the company to his best friend and he becomes the mail boy.

Selena Rogers has worked her ass off to get to where she is now working at Inferno she is one contract shy of getting the promotion of a lifetime. On her way home one night she is physically attacked by two men but before it could get any worse she is saved by a masked man, who burns a mark in the offending men as a reminder to never lay a hand on woman in violence. The masked man takes her home helps her bandages her wounds and holds her until she fell asleep. On the nights that follow he shows up when she has nightmares and helps her get back to sleep or talk things out.

Selena doesn’t know who he is but her growing emotional attachment for him is confusing her especially since she has been good friends with the mail boy Daniel, and the friendship is growing into something more. But her conflicting emotions are not the only troubling thing happening in her life the contract she needs to get her promotion is getting more troubling. Dante never meant to fall in love with Selena but after two years of getting to know her and then helping her in the hero capacity seals the deal.

I can go on about how much I loved this book but then I would just get tired of typing and you would get tired of reading it. Jennifer Probst admits the inspiration for the story came from a long car ride with boys talking comic books and you can tell. Stark as in Tony Stark, Selena as in Selena Kyle aka Catwoman and even her last name Rogers, Captain America, Steve Rogers. It is always a pleasure to read Jennifer Probst books and I look forward for more from this series.

Another great story from Jennifer Probst! This novella was extremely fast-paced, sexy, and intriguing! When I heard that Ms. Probst had written a paranormal story, I was really excited to learn what it was all about. Dante's Fire was creative, unique, and refreshing! We get a new concept to paranormal adult romance; the sexy superhero!!!

By Day, Dante Stark goes by "Daniel." He is the secret owner of the prestigious, successful, and flourishing, Inferno Enterprises. He has a secret identity that he must hide. Therefore, his best friend, Chase, masquerades as the owner, while "Daniel" works in the mail room to keep a low profile, yet be able to learn about the comings and goings in the company. At night, Dante wears a mask, and defends women that are being attacked by predators.

Selina Rogers works at Inferno Enterprises. She wants to be successful, and her whole life revolves around work. She is on friendly terms with "Daniel." and they share a cup of coffee and talk daily. Dante has been in love with her for 2 years, but leads a lonely life because of the secret he hide. One night when Selina gets attacked, Dante comes to her rescue as the masked super hero. As he returns to her place nightly to help her heal, he finds himself falling even more in love with her. She is caught between having feelings for both "Daniel," and Dante, not realizing that they are the same person. Falling in love, is against the rules of being a super hero, but when Dante has finally found happiness in his life, how can he let it go?

If you are looking for a quick, entertaining, and sexy read about a modern day super hero, I recommend, Dante's Fire. I loved the main characters, Dante and Selina. They had a great connection, and I loved watching their relationship grow. I love watching movie's about super hero's, so I though it was a lot of fun reading a sexy adult story about a modern day superhero! I give, Dante's Fire, by Jennifer Probst 4 heroic, sexy, fun, and fast-paced stars! I'm looking forward to the adventure continuing in the sequel, which will be Chase, and Dante's newly introduced, half-sister, Sage's story!

My Favorite Quote:

"I finally realized in order to be strong; we have to allow ourselves to feel the grief first. The rage. The helplessness. Then we can heal." (eARC, Loc. 622)

~Dante

Before you start this book the synopses states "a new kind of hero", let me just tell you that is exactly what Dante..er Daniel is. He is a modern day superhero who puts together broken and damaged women who have been the victims of abuse, and and all minds. I won't spoil it for you on what he does to terrible men who hurt others to make them selves feel bigger. Let's just say it burns like hell * snickers*. I loved watching the relationship grow between Selina and Dante and with Daniel ( who is Dante's undercover self but shh) she struggles with wanting both if them however her pull to Dante is stronger. He makes her feel safe, protected, wanted and after the trauma she ha endured safe and protected is exactly what she needs. You see Dante's super hero gift is to make warm feel safe around a man and his touch again. Help her through her nightmares, talk the night away with them, show them how to accept a mans touch away without fear, however he must ever ever ever make love them. Not that I ever wish to be attacked by anyone but if Dante is the light at the end of that tunnel then shoot, I may pay someone to "rob me", just saying. During the story you see Dante's internal struggle to keep that promise and not lose himself in Selina, even if he has never wanted anything for himself as much as he does this women. And this begins a battle of right and wrong. Need and want. This story really flowed very nicely and I was lost in the story. I can't wait for book two, I was hoping his friend chase would get a story. Now excuse me while I go fill out a robber wanted ad.

If you say "Jennifer Probst" I'll drop what I'm doing and come running. That's how much I love her books. Unfortunately, Dante's Fire didn't quite connect for me. I liked the idea behind a modern day hero with special "powers" that connect him with the victims he saves and marks the villains who harm. I even really enjoyed our Hero and heroine, Dante and Selina. But I wanted more...yes I fully am aware this was a novella but aside from the back story of when Dante's power developed, I wanted more of the family history, the legacy.

There is a dual story for Dante as he is a masked avenger at night and an average joe during the day. When the woman he's been in love with for the last few years becomes one of his charges he finally lets him self believe that maybe there really is someone out there for him, someone who will love him regardless of his secrets and dual life. Dante and Selina are really believable together and I loved watching Selina with the Dante she knew at night versus the one during the day - of course by another name. That whole dynamic between them really worked for me.

The end ties things up but only half of it drew me in. The open ending leaves me hoping there will be another book. I think that this story could definitely take off with what's uncovered in the end plus I would really love some more of Dante's BFF. I feel like there is a whole lot more to him than the little we get to see. Dante's Fire was a good start to what I hope is going to be an interesting series.

I really enjoyed this novella. It was a take on a modern day superhero of sorts. Dante has a gift that allows him to mark men who attack women and then helps to heal the women from the attack. He sometimes feels that it is more of a curse. He feels that he has to live his life alone because most women don't understand why he just disappears when he is called to help a women who is in trouble.

Selina Rogers is different. He feels the connection with her right away but does not act on it. Instead he maintains a friendship with her as the mail clerk in her office building. She knows him only as Daniel.

Fate steps in and Selina needs Dante's gift. As Dante heals her they feel the attraction growing while at work she feels an attraction to Daniel also. How will she react when she finds out the truth? Do they have a future?

I definitely recommend this book.

AWESOME read. A story of doubt and trust.

When I first received this ARC I thought Paranormal?? Jennifer Probst hmmmm.... As I trust & love her writing, I read Dante's Fire - SO GLAD I DID - its FREAKING AWESOME!!!!!!!

Dante's Fire SIZZLES because its so HOT. I could not put it down!

Dante is the ultimate hero, he has strengths and weaknesses. He sacrifices and protects on all levels. After Selina is attacked, her "safe world" crumbles. Dante/Daniel helps Selina pick up the pieces, find her way - to cope, overcome her fears. In turn Dante is rewarded as Selina helps him to confront & cope with his past.

A HOT, emotional read that you do not want to miss.

Keep on blazing new trails Jennifer Probst - wonderful read, can't wait for more to come.

Romance and Fantasy for Cosmopolitan Girls

"Perché no?

Dante’s Fire, I believe, is the first book I have read by Jennifer Probst. It’s a shorter book (85 pages) making it a good way to get a little taste of Jennifer’s work.

Dante has this secret, a legacy that he received from his father. It keeps him, while not living in the shadows, not fully making a name for himself, so he can continue on with his work.

Selina is a workaholic who is making a name for herself. She wants nothing more than to succeed at her job after working so hard to get where she is today.

Selina and Dante are both very likable characters as are a few other people we meet in the book.

Before I found out this was the first book of a series, I was left feeling like it was an ok book but I really would have liked to have more from it. I wanted more depth to the characters, more history, it all felt kind of vague. Then I realized it was a series and thought that what was in this book was a great start to this series and it leaves you wanting more. You want to know about the final character he meets in the book, how Selina and her are going to interact. I want to get to know Dante more, have a better understanding of his feelings towards his secret.

All in all it was a good start to this series and I definitely will be following it as it progresses.

Thank you so much for my copy of Dante’s Fire!

Secrets Revealed, Dante's Fire by Jennifer Probst
Secrets Revealed

Dante's fire is the first book in a new series by Jennifer Probst. I know, I know, I was also surprised when I found out that a book which I thought was stand alone is actually the first book in a series. Two more books are coming up. At least the main characters will be different.

The book didn't offer me anything special and I thought the story had some rushed parts. I found weird that Dan was in love with Selina for two years and she was a tad attracted to him, but later in the book she falls almost immediately in love with Dante.

Unfortunately, this novella didn't work out 100% for me. Still, I cannot make myself give the book less than three stars because despite all the things I didn't like or didn't work for me, there were some parts that I liked/loved.

It would be comforting to know that someone like Dante exist in real life. For Saline I have mixed feelings. I don't like it when she was forgetting the whole I am attracted to two different males and I should come clean about it part. The kind of story line where there is a triangle that really isn't reminds me of M. Leighton's book Down to you.

I will be waiting for more in the next novella.

*Book source ~ A review copy was provided in exchange for an honest review.

Selina Rogers has worked her tail off and it’s about to pay off with a nice fat promotion at Inferno Enterprises. However, just before she closes a big deal she suffers an attack that throws her off her game. Saved by a masked stranger who helps her deal with the aftermath of nightmares and panic attacks, her self-confidence takes a hit and she’s suddenly questioning herself. Dante, the masked stranger, is more than just her savior. She can feel his pain, his aching loneliness and wants to soothe him the way he’s soothed her. But Dante must follow the rules of his gift even if what he wants most is her.

Oh, man! This is a superhero story with a delicious twist. I love Dante. I love Selina, too. Their characters are reasonably well-rounded and likeable. Though the world could use a bit more building and their relationship a little more meat, for a short story this is one that grabs attention right out of the gate and runs fleet of foot to the end. Speaking of the end, it intrigues me and I wonder when there will be more of this world.

Dante's a different kind of hero and I sort of like him.

His power is indeed different; to protect women and comfort them, but somehow reminds me of Ghost Rider without the skull and the motorcycle. I guess it's because Dante's element is also fire. I don't know if this book is Jen Probst's early books or not but I really think her writing is a bit weak. I don't see her signature style and yes, I so can mistake this as someone else's writing. It's good, the writing, but somehow not as.. Strong as her Marriage Bargain series.

But overall I enjoyed this book. Look forward to read more from Jen Probst!

A new genre for one of my favorite authors--and a hero of a whole different kind. Not only does Dante mysteriously arrive in a time of need, rescuing a female from her attackers, but marks the villains in a way that unables them from harming a female again. Then he stays, watching over them, helping them to heal and trust again. This is an emotional story of pain and healing for both the hero and heroine, cloaked identities and love. And oh, the love! Scorching hot.

If you're looking for a quick, can't put it down read, this book's for you!

I absolutely loved this book, and I am so stoked that Jennifer will be writing more in this particular world! I can't wait to read about Chase! Dante/Daniel was amazing, he is the ultimate male, and honestly I want to meet him! Not the way a woman normally meets him *shudder* but still. I loved how Selina was such a strong woman, even with what happens to her, and wow the heat between these two is beyond explosive! Dante's Fire is smoking hot, and reading it will melt your heart while burning you up! An absolute five fiery star rating!

What a fun departure from Jennifer Probst's standard fare. This is a wonderfully sweet romance with a twist of light paranormal. Dante is a superhero with a huge heart and has a strong desire to have more in his life. The objection of his desire, Selena Rodgers, has no idea who or what he is but is drawn to him. When circumstances bring Selena and Dante's superhero persona together, both their lives are changed forever.

This is a wonderful story that I recommend to everyone.

I got this book as an ARC for an honest review!! I love everything I have read so far by Jennifer but I think this one takes the cake!! Best paranormal book I've ever read!! Dante is freakin hot and Selina I'm totally girl crushing on!! Love that this is going to be a series, Dante and Selina's story can not be over!! He thinks he's evil but what he does is amazing no matter if he can save them all or not!! I'm totally in love!! Ready for Saga and Chase's story!!!

DNF (DID. NOT. FINISH.)

I have enjoyed quite a few of Jennifer Probst's books. She's a fabulous author. I just think that maybe she should stay away from PNR or maybe this is her first attempt and she should give it another try.

Whatever the problem is, I just could not for the life of me finish this book. I actually liked the first quarter of it but after that, I lost interest.

I was really bummed out cuz I was excited about this story.

3.5
the story isn't great or original, there were many points that I found not logical or even passable.
the end was pretty forced.
However, I did like the writing style.
the characters were sweet and loving and I enjoyed that.
I think I will give the series another try when the next part is published.

A good short read about a different kind of Superhero. I enjoyed this book as it was completely different than any book that I have read. Dante is a superhero who arrives to save women from being attacked by evil men. This time he saves someone to whom he knows and has deep feelings for. This is their story. Very interesting concept and character's.

A heartfelt and sexy romance! I loved Dante and Selina's story. Both are strong and intelligent but are vulnerable from their past. Their chemistry jumped off the page and I loved how they learned how to open their hearts to love. I am excited that there will be more stories in this series!

Un po' più lunghetto, no? Doveva essere più ricco, l'ho trovato troppo sbrigativo..
