This is a phonics focused early reader focused on the sound z. The story is about a friend of Emily Elizabeth’s ordering a fizzy soda. My kids did not like that Clifford and the other dogs weren’t in it especially since Clifford is on the cover. False advertising let down. The story wasn’t very exciting and probably would’ve benefitted from a dog or two. Also my kids haven’t had many fizzy drinks so it was a little confusing for them, and I’m sure other kids at the learn to read age group might have the same problem.
Each book in this set includes an introduction from Emily Elizabeth who tells what the story is about and introduces three sets of words: words with the focus sound (buzz, fizz, etc), sight words (here, etc), and “fun” words (soda, etc). The “fun” words usually include some that parents or teachers might want to pre teach before the child reads so it’s nice that they are included here. The book includes an illustration and full white page with large text on each set of facing pages. This is nice for children learning to read. It is easy for them to find and follow the text.
