Workaholic Catherine finds her life in tatters when out of the blue her Husband, James, announces that he is leaving her and their baby daughter, Madeline, for the office cleaner.
Apart from sharing a home, a life and a child together, Catherine and James also own a successful business, Marketing Matrix. After it becomes clear that the pair can’t run a business together as a separated couple Catherine packs her bags and leaves everything behind to start a new life with Maddy. But can she cope as Workaholic Catherine finds her life in tatters when out of the blue her Husband, James, announces that he is leaving her and their baby daughter, Madeline, for the office cleaner.

But can she cope as a single mum in a strange place with no one to support her? And even more scarily; can she cope without her job?

Manic Mondays sounded like just the type of book I enjoy reading. You know the ones; there’s a women who loses her job/husband/boyfriend etc, she struggles, cries, maybe eats ice cream for a bit, and then turns her life around. She basically ends up sticking two fingers up to everyone who wronged her and loves her new life – leaving me with a big cheesy grin on my face. However, whilst Manic Mondays follows that winning formula, there’s a lot more to it than you might think…
I wasn’t sure if I was going to get into this book at first as the way James just suddenly just decides he’s leaving Catherine and his baby daughter left me a bit befuddled. It sounded as though he had a personality transplant overnight, getting a tattoo and a Porsche and all the rest of it. Then the way he behaved towards Catherine at work was just astounding. I found it a little hard to believe until I came to the conclusion that James is simply a complete idiot, then it all made sense.

I really admired Catherine as a character and loved watching her trying to find that happy medium between successful career and single mother. Whilst it’s something that I have no experience of I completely felt for Catherine and the situations she faced. (I also wanted to give James a good slap). There’s undoubtedly some difficult moments in this book, especially when Catherine experiences feelings of depression and feels isolated and lonely, but there’s also plenty of light humour in the story to help balance it out (and YES there’s some romance as well…I know you were wondering.)
The characters that Catherine meets along her journey to a new life are brilliant additions to the story. I really liked Grace, Annie and Spiky (I was sure Annie and Spiky were going to hit if off – maybe for book two? *hint, hint*) I also enjoyed how Catherine’s friend, Steve, had an interesting storyline which played out nicely alongside Catherine’s part.
I found Manic Mondays really easy and enjoyable to read. You’ll warm to Catherine and Maddy in no time and soon be rooting for them. I also found it to be quite an inspirational read, showing you that no matter how tough things are you have to keep fighting to get to where you want to be. Catherine survives because she has no choice in the matter and the experiences that she goes through help her to see what’s really important in life…and it’s not necessarily big client contracts and work as she might have originally thought.

If you can relate to this storyline or have children then this story might make you cry a bit…but it’ll also make you laugh and no doubt you’ll also be nodding your head in recognition. (credit cards in the Teletubbies DVD case, anyone?)
I’m really excited to have discovered Michaela Weaver. Her writing is realistic, funny, light-hearted and excellent at keeping you gripped. There is honesty, love, struggles and humour a plenty in this entertaining, modern read.

Manic Mondays is a contemporary read. Catherine loved Mondays, she loved going back to work when most of the nation hated returning to work on a Monday. She loved being Managing Director of Marketing Matrix. But all that changed one Monday in August.

Catherine is left holding the baby in this fun novel which sees her having to start again with a new life back in town. After her husband makes the decision to go off with the cleaner after she spends too much time making their business a success to give him the attention he needs she leaves with her daughter Madeleine for rented accommodation and a new job.
