Would you spend ten days traveling the country with someone you despised if he promised to pay off your student loans?

Recent college graduate, Harper Leigh, can barely make ends meet working as the books editor for a new online entertainment magazine, Chatter. With $85,000 of student loan debt about to go into repayment, she has no idea how she’ll get by.

Just when she thinks things couldn’t get worse, Harper’s boss decides to embed her in the North American tour for the hot rock band, Always Rayne. Ten days on the road with the band for her to get an exclusive story. But Harper’s a homebody and the last thing she wants to do is go on the road with a rock band. And she definitely doesn’t want to spend ten days with the notorious bad boy and band front man, Nic Rayne.

When Nic proves to be too much for Harper to handle and she threatens to quit the assignment, Nic decides to sweeten the pot. If she stays with the tour for all ten days, he’ll pay off all of her student loan debt….but there’s one small catch.

Harper also has to sleep in his bed every night.

Always Rayne is the first novel in the Always Sometimes Never New Adult Rock Star Romance Series. Always Rayne can be read as a stand alone novel or as part of the series.

This book was shit.

I'm not even kidding.

Every single character in this book annoyed the hell out of me. It's so unrealistic it's not funny.

Nic and whats her face? Seriously?

What's the connection? Can someone please tell me?

Nic was an absolute dick! Seriously. He's "waiting for Harper" (is that her name?), because he's falling for her or whatever, after knowing her for a day to less than a week. I'm thinking fine, ok, this is some insta-love type of shit so I treated it as such BUT! what's even more unrealistic is the fact that he's supposedly fallen for her in this short of time, yet he continues to fuck anything that breathes... And dickhead Harper still likes him. I mean seriously? You catch him getting a blowjob in the back of his car and you let him take you on a "date" or whatever? And that's not even the worse thing that's happened!!

Harper was simply a pushover. She had nothing going for her. At the start of this book, I thought she was going to be headstrong and say it like it is. Unfortunately she was just a weak little bitch. (Excuse my language)

I think the whole Raven situation is quite frankly disgusting. It literally makes my skin crawl. I just... eww.

All in all, I think they're all idiots and the half hour or so that I spent reading it was a complete waste of time... that I'll never get back.

Unfortunately.

I was sure something like that was bound to happen. After a string of great books, with amazing heroines i ended up yesterday reading Always Rayne. And i'm still asking myself: How much can you dislike a book character? And why?

Well the answer about Harper is easy. I didn't like her disposition one bit and i'm sure that happened because of her childish ways, lack of humor, professionalism, attidute and so on.. She is one big mess of a person..

Nic on the other hand was cocky, a know it all, but very straight forward and so much more interesting than little old Harper.. I could have liked this story so much better if it wasn't Harper's contant problematic "innocence"..

As for the story, it was disjointed, immature, filled with cliché plot twists and a bot dull.
I have no interest in reading the next book, but i will read the third one that is Xander and Raven's story..

THOUGHTS ABOUT THE BOOK

- He dog-eared a book! No true book lover does that..

- There were too many random thoughts on Harper's mind and she was quite judgemental at first and then very insecure.
- Xander and Raven are the only interesting characters in this book.
- For the first half of the book i didn't like Brooke at all.
- Why they both think their so smart is beyond me. Nic maybe but Harper? Definitelly not.
- He wanted something more but he kept having girls around.. Not cool..

I was given this book by the author for an honest review, and I honestly LOVED it! I was so enthralled in Harper Leigh & Nic Rayne's love story I stayed up all night to read it, and I don't regret it one bit. Harper is a sweet, love-able reporter for a start up internet Arts & Entertainment magazine, Chatter, and Nic is a cocky, womanizing, heartthrob movie star/lead singer in the rock band Always Rayne. They meet after her best friend/roommate, Brooke, wins tickets and backstage passes for one of his concerts. She proceeds to tell him all the things she does not like about him, starting with his cocky smirk. What she doesn't realize is that his image is not all there is to the man, and he's been waiting for a woman like her to come along- even if she is a fashion victim who dresses like a "hippy librarian".
You'll fall in love with these characters. One-click it, you won't regret it! My only regret is that this book just came out, so I have to wait to get the next book in this series!
Oh, and the steamy sex scenes will not leave you wanting! Whew! They are just the right amount of heat for me.

I like the direction of the book super intelligent rock star perceived as a grunting womanizer. However, it focused alot on the shallow side.

For me it needed more depth & dimension as well as editing.

New Adult isn’t my usual thing, but I was willing to give it a try. I had mixed reactions to this book. At the start, I really liked Harper Leigh, a recent college grad with quite a lot of student loan debt, struggling to find a full-time job. As a reporter for a start-up online arts & entertainment magazine, she barely earns enough to pay her bills and is stressing about getting a second job to pay her student loans. She’s very intelligent, loves books, is a loyal friend, and has no fashion sense at all. She has a strong sense of self, and is comfortable with herself. She reluctantly goes along when her BFF, Brooke, wins tickets and backstage passes to see her favorite rock band, Always Rayne. While Brooke’s goal is to hook up with one of the band members, Harper’s goal is to just get through the evening and get back home. She isn’t a fan of the band and is shocked at the backstage antics of the band members and the women looking to hook up with them. She’s less than impressed when she meets Always Rayne’s frontman and movie star Nic Rayne. She has no problem letting Nic know that she thinks he’s not very bright, and marginally talented. Nic, on the other hand is intrigued by her. He’s found a woman who challenges him and he wants her. And Nic Rayne always gets what he wants. He arranges for her to go on tour with the band to get an exclusive story.
Always Rayne is basically a Cinderella story with a little twist. A young, pretty, badly dressed woman without a penny to her name (and $85k student loan debt) meets the young, handsome prince. Except this prince is a tattooed bad boy rockstar/movie star with a sex god reputation.
Once Harper gets to know Nic, the real Nic, she can’t help but fall for him. He’s secretly smart, with an amazing home library. Their conversations were entertaining and I enjoyed watching their relationship unfold. I was pleasantly surprised by how much I was liking this book and these two characters…until Harper started crying. The book is written in first person, from Harper’s POV. The first time I read the phrase, “…tears streamed down my face.”, I didn’t think much of it. But by the fourth time, on page 100, I was starting to lose patience with her. All in all, Harper had tears streaming down her face a total of six times. Six times in a 164 page book! I was struggling to remember all the things I really liked about Harper.
All romances need a conflict, an obstacle for the h/h to overcome on the way to their HEA. Harper’s ex-boyfriend shows up to provide a very contrived conflict that really fell flat for me. Harper’s straightforwardness and strength of character suddenly evaporated and she turned meek, allowing Jackson to run roughshod over her. Fortunately, she rediscovered her backbone, but I found this plot point unbelievable and Harper’s actions not true to character. I wondered if perhaps some of Harper’s actions could be chalked up to her age and inexperience, but I don’t think so. Everyone, including Harper, describes her as older than her years.
While I can’t say I loved this book, I did like it enough to read more from this author. The other two members of Always Rayne, Nic’s cousins, Leo and Xander, will get their books. I’ll probably read them.

This could have been a sweet little romance except ist not!
H is lead in band which includes best friends and groupie friend who sleeps with all the members - they are family, she's kinda like a sister to them, all with tragic back stories to go with the image (eyes rolling here). Her job is to approve the ons for the "boys" - her pseudo brothers/lovers.
So H, tired of the usual groupies found the bookish, no sense of style, totally opposite of skanky material age so fascinating after one meeting, he made arrangement for her to be on tour with the band to write up close and personal story.
The h armed with her list of dislikes for the lead (while lusting over his amazingly hot body of course) was up close and center to see his amazing bed gymnastics with groupies and even found him taking part in backseat of a car gymnastics as well still manage to find him hot and simply irresistible! So not believing this HEA - both H & band members made remark that it was unheard of that H was without groupies for a few days - makes you wonder what will happen if he's on tour without the h --oh the pseudo sister is around so -there's that I guess.
So, I managed to finish without gagging but get this, we will have book on the h's friend her story his her struggle with substance abuse, she had ons with a band member in this book and will continue into book 2, 3rd book with be on the pseudo sister of the band and one of the band members so yeah - so passing on those.

This was a lot like masturbating with a cheese grater. Very moronic, pretty painful and not very interesting. And NO I haven't actually tried it. 😁
I might be a celebrity whore, but this was just too disgusting. Some parts of it actually made my skin crawl - Eeew.

Guess the joke's on me, being the idiot who choose to read it.

Like Rob (my co reviewer) this is also my first time reading this author and I can absolutely shout loudly that it won't be my last. Crikey, this book started full pelt and carried on in exactly the same vein. I really and I mean really LOVE Sierra's writing style, there's no bullshit, no waffle, no over descriptions. But everything is there laid out before you and so easy to follow along with and know exactly what's going on visually as well as the reading. One thing I am going to mention, if you love Kylie Scott then I really think you will love Sierra's style and how she brings her characters to life too. I am not saying Sierra writes the same, but the connection is there instantly to want to sink into the book from the starting line.

Nic Rayne was a perfect movie star/rock star. A complete egotistical twat that has you routing for Harper all the way through and actually hoping she doesn't fall for his well professed charms. He oozed sex appeal of course he did, but he also oozed being a total prick where women are concerned, he's insatiable through and through and how his revolving door didn't hit up the arse I don't know! I loved that though, I enjoyed hating his ways but actually really liking him. I can see why Harper didn't stand a chance.

Harper is a character that is one of my favourite kinds. She's quirky, she's 'normal', she's led a bit of a sheltered life, she's a book nerd and a wannabe writer, trying to make a name for her self. So why the hell does she end up on tour with a man she doesn't like, that may ruin her for any chance of a serious career? Well you'll just have to read this book and found out why ;0)

I also agree with Rob, considering Rayne is a total manwhore and a rockstar to boot then it was surprising there was little 'action' till towards the end. But having said that this book is in no way tame per se. What Rayne gets up to and Harper witnesses and listens to the goings on, is that you know it's happening but it's not in your face. So this book I would still consider on the hot side and sexy as sex is ubiquitous but behind closed doors, it doesn't become 'erotic' till much further in.

And yet again I agree with Rob too on the uncomplicatedness of the story. It's one of those books that reads fast, but when you get to the end you realises, cripes that whole book only spanned about a couple of weeks! So that may leave some questioning a few things. Me, personally I didn't care, the story was well written, easy on the eye, great characters, both main and supporting and very visual. I will definitely following this whole series that's for sure!

☆I received a review copy of this book for the blog tour. Thank you!☆

3.5 stars!!☆★

description

“That’s because you already had your mind made up about me before you ever got the chance to know me.”

Always Rayne was very soft core compared to the many rock star romances I come across.

After her best friend wins a contest to have VIP access to her favorite rock band in concert, Harper Leigh, finds herself in the company of one of the last people she’d ever want to meet in her life: Nic “Rayne”: A rock star. A womanizer. A player. Someone she’d never fall for EVER.

So Rayne.

Rayne has it all: money, good looks, charm, sex appeal, an abundance of women, and a hidden high IQ. What he does not have is someone he can “click” or connect with on a deeper level other than a mindless one night stand.

When he sees Harper, he immediately knows she’s different

“No one would ever mistake you for a groupie that’s for sure”
--“Why do you say that?”
“Your clothes are like some crazy mashup between a hippie and a school librarian.”

And decides that he wants her to get to know the REAL him that he hides away from the world.

“I know you have some hesitancy towards me. You’ve made that pretty clear. I just want the chance, even if it’s a small chance, to change your mind about me. I want you to get to know the real me.”

After all, despite Harper’s reluctance, what Rayne wants he get gets. And he plans to make Harper his.

“There’s nothing I can’t do, Harper. Haven’t you figured out that out yet? ….I always get what I want.”

So what will Harper do when the man you despise holds slowly breaks down your walls and holds the cards to not only your job but your way out of your student loans? That is, in return for traveling with him throughout the end of his band tour and sleeping in his bed every night? Read and you will find out!

#An over all, "easy, squeezy" type of read with very little swearing and only a sprinkle of manwhoring. Nothing dramatic or out of the ordinary. I'll definitely be on the lookout for book two and three of this series, Sometimes Brooke and Never Raven!!, as I had a feeling that these couples in these upcoming books were going to get paired together!! I can't wait!

I thought I'd like this story. I love me a dirty rock star. First major issue was Raven. The childhood friend turned rock band semen depository. Ew. According to her the boys do what they're skilled at (music) and she does what she's skilled at which seems to be taking them on either alone or in multiples on those nights they don't find somebody else. Not sure this situation screams friendship or love which is what she claims. Then there's Harper....the beautiful girl who doesn't realize she's beautiful. I can overlook a few TSTL moments but the weeping put me over the edge. She came off as weak and spineless. And finally we get to Nic. The rock star so desperately looking for something different. Wanting someone who can keep up with his uber brain while still stimulating his baser urges. So he connives to get miss weepy on his tour then continues to bang skanks. Sigh. He couldn't keep it in his pants for the 10 days to see if Harper could be it for him? Really? I finally gave up after Harper went home with him after catching him getting a bj in his car and they were finally going to do an interview ....in his hot tub. The skeeve factor was off the charts for me so I finally called it quits and returned the book for a refund. Maybe the 2nd half was better.....could be that Raven finally shut her legs and got a real job, Harper grew a spine and plugged up her tear ducts and Nic removed his head from his ass, got a dose of humility and learned that he really didn't have to stick his dick in everything that walked in front of him.

*I received a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review*

Harper's boss sends her to tour with the band,  Always Rayne.  But Harper wants to give up the assignment because the singer,  Nic,  is driving her crazy.  NOT in a good way!  Nic wants her to stay and if she agrees he'll pay off all her student loans.  And that's a considerable amount of money!  Seems fairly easy except he also wants her to sleep in his bed each night.

This was a fun, sexy read. It was able to read it in one sitting. I really liked the characters. Especially,  Nic. He's exactly what you want in a hot, bad boy rocker!  This is the first book in a series and I definitely want to read more.

4*

Enjoyable

Oh, to be young, beautiful, and have a movie star in love with me. I can't imagine it. When Harper is ordered by her boss to go on tour with Nic Rayne, a movie star/rock star, and his band, she is appalled. She doesn't like Nic Rayne. As she gets to know him, though, she realizes he isn't the shallow airhead she believed him to be. How odd that by the time she realizes this, her old boyfriend wants her back. Good read with no slow moving parts. I was a little disappointed with the abrupt ending, but other than that, I think it's a great story.

I liked it and the characters were likable. While it was a bit of a fluff story, I admit to liking that once in awhile! The whole “journalist goes on tour with the rock band and falls in love” has been done many times but each author has their own story to tell.

Good little story!

Really enjoyed it. Already started the next book in the series

It was nice to read what is the typical rock romance that wasn't all unicorns and sunshine.
I wish it were longer and the characters a little more fleshed out, but only because I enjoyed the story.
If it had been a hundred pages longer, I probably would want 200. So it's all good.
Far better to want more of the story than just be glad it ended:)

5 Rock- STARS!!! Rock-star romances. Movie-star romances. Who doesn't love movie or rock-star romance? A fictional look at who they are and what they do behind the curtain. A look into who or what will break through that show-stopping persona.
Who doesn't love a good movie or rock-star romance?!!

The cover is stunning and the blurb already puts you on the edge of your seat! PLUS its a ROCK-STAR romance!

I loved everything about this book! I could not stop reading it! It was fantastic! And has characters that were complex, witty, smart, charming and funny!! With almost every page I was surprised! There was nothing predictable about this book.

"I never thought I'd catch myself thinking these four words but they keep going through my head like a mantra: I want Nic Rayne."

Harper works for a start-up web magazine. She has recently graduated college and the book first presents her as the stereotypical nerd. With her librarian clothes and studious attitude. She wants to be a serious journalist/editor for this magazine but is having a hard time making anyone see that through the superficial attitudes of her co-workers. I won't tell you how, but she's thrust into Always Rayne as an embedded journalist to document the last leg of their tour. As she tries to integrate herself into their world, it's eye-opening to her. She's surprised pleasantly and taken back by other things she observes.

"I'm not sure why I'm so taken off-guard. It's everything. Him having a key to the room. Him walking in on me almost asleep. That he likes to read."

It's a true growing experience for her. For Harper to live a life that she was opposed to initially. She is a character who doesn't take crap from anyone and she certainly won't from Nic or his band. Harper is probably one of my favorite heroines! She's grounded and smart in every sense. Harper takes things at face value and when she learns that there's more beneath the surface she begins to transform. She's felt this connection to Nic but she's held back because how could this sexy movie and rock-star ever be truly attracted to her? As their time together continues, so do Harper's thoughts and feelings for Nic. And it's pure entertainment! Magic at it's best!

"We're so different. We're from completely different backgrounds. We lead completely different lives. How could there ever be anything serious between us?"

Nic Rayne goes by Rayne... Always. There is no one who calls him Nic. Except Harper! I just love her! Ok back to Nic for a minute. He's painted, for a hot second, as the stereotypical front man of a rock band, Always Rayne. But he's also a movie star. A genuine celebrity. He seems brooding, hugely opinionated, and as Harper says...

"He's a pretty face with limited talent and not much going on upstairs..."

He has sex with a different girl almost every night. And as I usually find that extremely off-putting, the author was able to sway my opinion. I was a huge fan of Nic Rayne! I noticed immediately that those pictures in my head of the typical rock persona wasn't really who he was. Nic is intrigued by Harper. But not in the 'let's go backstage and have sex' way. And that in turn made me intrigued by him. He's extremely intelligent and witty. He surprises Harper at every turn with his intelligence! He wants that forever love. That one girl who he can make dreams come true together. The one girl who sees him and everything he truly is. He's someone who can banter with Harper and who keeps her and the reader on our toes.

"You may want to consider spending more nights sleeping and fewer nights engaging in bedroom gymnastics. Just a suggestion."
"Maybe you need to spend more time engaging in bedroom gymnastics and less time sleeping. Just a suggestion."

It was a quick read for me but there is so much to this book. It's not just superficial. This book goes beneath the surface to every nook and cranny. It draws you in with complexity and surprises. And the characters.... omigosh! There is so much care and effort put into each of the characters in this book. Even the secondary characters. I am incredibly impatient with finding out about when the next books will be released. Each a standalone about characters we meet in Always Rayne. I was sucked in, literally. Magnetized by the writing style and devoured every word. I know this is shorter than most of my reviews, however, this book can certainly stand on its own two feet. This is a must read for anyone who loves rock-star romances and the new adult genre!!

"..I seriously doubt the guy has ever read a book in his life."

*GASP* well we can't have that, now can we?

I don't know exactly how I feel about this book. I have mixed emotions, but they are mostly negative with a few good ones, just for fun.

Harper Leigh. Very clever name. She is a journo, who takes her job very seriously, and don't take crap from nobody. She believes in herself, she believes in her rights, and doesn't really care about what she wears or what others think of her.

gif

Usually I like the male leads better, but this was very conflicting. Harper was very indecisive, and she would not accept this teeny weeny little fact that maybe, just maybe, she had any kind of feelings for Nic Rayne, the super hot muso and actor. She even denied liking him as a person. Stubborn chick.

gif

She was forward with him since the beginning, but just not honestly. I actually wanted to slap her in the face. Well, most of the time. When that realisation hits that she might actually.... li-ike him. (I say that like a teenage boy talking to a girl for the first time.) And the realisation finally hit like this:

gif

Haha I love that gif.

Nic Rayne handled things better than I thought a guy would (Not judgement or anything.) He was even more forward with her from the beginning, and told her the truth, the whole truth, nothing but the truth (I watch way to much Law and Order lol.) I did like Nic Rayne, but he came accross as quite douchey at times.

I read this WAY too often:

"Shakes"

gif

"Shakes"

gif

"Shakes"

gif

"Shakes"

gif

Believe it or not, out of all of the times the word "Shakes" was used, none of the times anyone was referring to a milkshake. That disappointed me.

Overall, I found this book one part cringeworthy, two parts annoying, and one part enjoyable. (And only a tad creepy.)

Here are a few of my favourite quotes!

"[Harper said] Just because it's online, doesn't mean that it's not a real magazine.' [Brooke said]'And what's the circulatoin? Twelve?"

gif

"I don't care what's going on upstairs. I just need to know what's going on downstairs. And from all accounts, his downstairs works just fine."

gif

"There's definitely no shortage of arrogance in the room."

And I just really wanted to add in this one:

gif

This book was given to me in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are completely my own

Even with every single cliché from Nic Rayne I still loved this cute rock star romance. Nic Rayne is the rock star that can and will have any girl that decides to try and sleep with him. But he only wants them for the night. Harper Leigh is a book editor for a new start up magazine. Now her boss wants her to follow the band on the last 10 days of their tour. Harper is anything but thrilled. She knows from interviews that Nic is not smart and is a huge player, until she meets him. Now he offering to pay off her student loans if she stays…and sleeps in his bed.

Harper Leigh is a straight-laced book editor for a new internet magazine. She is a home body and going on this tour is the last thing she wants to do. I wasn’t sure about her character at first. She was awfully judgey of someone she had never met before. Granted Nic and the other bands mates definitely love their women he is actually ridiculously smart. It took me a while to warm up to her character but that was because it took her a while to stop judging everything everyone did. I eventually did like her character. She was smart and was really into her job. She was a very confident person even though she didn’t know it. Yes she had moments where self-consciousness would come into play but she wasn’t intimated by Nic’s fame or his intelligence when she got to know him.

Nic Rayne is a rock star/ actor from the wrong side of the tracks. He didn’t have the greatest childhood but he escaped through his music. Now he is taken advantage of the company that comes with being famous. He is in the middle of sleeping his way through Hollywood when he meets Harper, who has a list of things she already doesn’t like about him. Nic has been looking for someone he can relate to and now he just has to get Harper to see it. Nic was great. He was sexy, smart, and musically talented. Who doesn’t love a rock star? I loved his character. Nic didn’t let the fame go to his head other than with the women but whatever. He was genuine and blunt and I loved that. Harper needed it.

The romance was so cute in this book. The two characters had to fall in love without sex in the beginning. They got to know each other with the sexual tension instead of sleeping together and getting to know each other after. The story was well writing and flowed really well. Each character seemed to jump off the page and bring their own twist to the story. Even though we didn’t get to know everyone well Sierra Avalon made them interesting enough that I want to read the next books!

This is the first book I have read from this author and I will definitely be reading more! This is a great book for anyone that likes the rock star/ actor romances!

I was very kindly provided with a copy of Always Rayne to read and review.

After reading the synopsis for this it sounded exactly like my kind of book and I couldn’t wait to delve straight into it. It started off great, we begin when we meet Harper Leigh who lives with her best friend, Brooke, and although they are practically polar opposites they are completely loving and loyal towards each other. Through Brooke’s alcohol addiction and Harpers relationship issues they’re constantly working to help keep each other on the straight and narrow. Enter in to the equation Nic Rayne, huge celebrity and total man whore, who instantly takes a very bright shine to Harper and does everything in his power to get her attention.

I found it a little difficult to connect with Harpers character, I loved her in the beginning when she was very much her own kind of girl with her own sense of style and lifestyle. But when she let people talk to her the way she did, especially Nic, I just couldn’t believe it. If he’d of talked to me the way he did her, he would have been minus his favourite body part pretty damn quickly and if someone I’d of known for five minutes told me that my long term relationship had been one of convenience I’d have laughed them right out of the building. Rather than taking what people threw at her and not knowing what to do other than cry I just wish that she’d of had more back bone and that she’d given as good as she got. If she’d of only had a bit more spunk about her then she would have been great.

I liked Nic when he wasn’t being a total jerk towards Harper. I couldn’t quite understand if he had fallen instantly in love with her, but if so then why did he continue to carry on his lifestyle if what he really wanted was her? It was stated that he is nearly thirty but he often behaved more like a sixteen year old. But when he was being open, honest and sweet he was utterly loveable, likeable and I could almost look past his attitude.

Overall I enjoyed this opening book to the Always Sometimes Never series, if I could change anything it would be that I wish it had given more back story to Nic and maybe to of heard things from his perspective to of given me more of an understanding towards him and to of maybe explained why he was the was he was. Although this book had bits that I disliked, especially Ravens character, it did have a lot that I did loved and I’m looking forward to reading Brooke and Leo’s book next. I’d love to see book two have a little more depth and steam to the story, but I’m definitely looking forward to reading more by Sierra Avalon.

Always Rayne is the first book of the series and can be read as a standalone but you will want to read the rest of the books because Sierra has penned this story with so much depth and emotions that it is hard to put it down. Plus you want to know what happened to her friends?

Harper is a sweet, simple, hardworking girl. Her beauty is what attracts Rayne to her even though she considers herself to be quite average. Rayne is immediately pulled into her innocence and no nonsense attitude. That she also seems to be immune to his charms is another reason Rayne is so enamored by her. The book starts out with Harper getting chosen and coerced for an assignment with the famous music band. Trouble starts when she finally meets the lead guy Nic Rayne. She finds herself getting more and more intrigued with the bad boy who turns out to be nothing like his image.

Rayne is a rock star and a movie star all rolled into one. He has the best of everything at his beck and call. But when he meets Harper for the first time she leaves him spell- bound. The superstar becomes a fan even telling her the same and offering to help her to pay off her student loan as well. Short of confessing his love, he does it all making it more difficult for Harper to understand him.

Harper gets involved in their lives and the tour of the band learning more about them and Rayne, falling more and more in love with the guy. I found the story very fast and fun. The story moves along and things keep happening, it is not just a love story but a story of their lives and friends too. Sierra has given the just perfect hints of family life and friends, supportive and encouraging all making an excellent introduction to the rest of the books.

It is not just a tale about a gut trying to score but a confirmation that appearances are indeed deceptive. Rayne comes out as the perfect gentleman and manages to find favor with Harper’s parents too. The only thing I found odd was that Harper readily agrees to his plan of running the newspaper while initially she was all upright and wanted nothing to do with his money.

The writing is excellent and the flow superb, the smart, suave Rayne has finally met someone who holds his interest and is equally well read! That Harper loves books was an added plus, who doesn’t love a girl who reads? A fast paced novel perfect for a great weekend read. ( I read it in a day, review took time because of life) The characters, parents, and the ups and downs in the story are all so well written. I recommend it for its story and Rayne. Yes, he is like that! ;)

“The guy reads lines in front of a camera and sings in a band. It’s not like he’s written a word that he recites or sings. He’s a pretty face with limited talent and not much going on upstairs, apparently.”

When Harper Leigh finds out she has to go on tour with the rock group Always Rayne or lose her job, she finds herself embedded with one of the hottest rock bands…and their even hotter front man, Nic Rayne – not that she he’s her type or anything. She’d rather be curled up with her books than find herself embedded with a rock band for 10 days, but those student loans aren't going to pay themselves!

When Nic first sees Harper he knows she’s not like any other girl he’s met and he’ll do anything he can just to get to know her – even if it takes calling up the on-line arts & entertainment website named Chatter that she works for and offering them an exclusive interview…but only if they send Harper Leigh. Because when Nic decides that he wants Harper, well, Nic always gets what he wants!

I just loved this book and found it to be a super easy read that left me smiling. I loved watching Harper learn that there was a lot more to Nic than she initially thought, and I loved watching Nic break down all of Harper’s defenses one by one. There were still the usual rock star shenanigans that took place – lots of partying and wild times – but once Nic decides that he wants to see if Harper could be the one for him, he straightens up and does his best to take things nice and slow since he doesn't want to screw things up.

Of course there are a few bumps in the road along the way, namely some negative publicity and a family crisis that has Harper’s ex coming back on the scene, but just when you thought “oh here it is, here’s the part when one of the characters jumps to all sorts of conclusions and sabotages things”, well, that just didn't happen. Not that there wasn't some emotion and initial reaction to situations, but it was refreshing to find that the characters talked about things before letting them get out of hand.

The rest of the characters in this book were great – I just loved Leo, Xander, and Raven, and Harper’s roommate Brooke was the best friend that we wish we all had! I can’t wait to read the next two books in this series where we’ll get to learn their stories too!

I really enjoyed this read and look forward to reading more from Sierra Avalon.

“Don’t think in stereotypes.” What you see is not always what you get.

ALWAYS RAYNE is a great rock star romance that kept me intrigued from the very first page.

Harper pretty much has lived a goody two shoes life with nothing exciting happening at all. But being able to pursue her dream job with being a journalist for an online magazine she is happy… until her best friend wins VIP passes to a concert of her favorite rock band, Always Rayne. The last thing she needs in her life is to meet the band members, let only the lead singer himself, Nic Rayne, an arrogant, self-absorbed and dumb rock star slash womanizer – yet she reluctantly agrees to accompany her friend.

Rayne has it all: He is rich, good looking and charming – all the attributes to get women – and not only women – lying at his feet in droves. A different woman every night. No strings. No commitments.
But what he really wants – despite his rock star behavior – is a woman he can connect with, that keeps his interest for longer than just one night. A woman that can look past the front he puts up for the world, to see Nic Rayne the human being, not Nic Rayne, the rock star.

When he first meets Harper, he senses something different about her. Something that tells him she might be the one to be able to keep up with him. He wants to show her the real him – whatever the costs. However, his ways of showing his interest in Harper are kind of odd. So no surprise she is not amused by the fact that in order to keep her job at the magazine, she will have to stay with the band for ten long days to write an exclusive article about them.
To loosen her reluctance, Nic sweetens the deal by offering her to pay off her student loans – given that she agrees to spend every night with him in his bed. Still oblivious to Nic’s strange ways of showing affection, Harper assumes it is only his way of trying to get her to sleep with him.
It takes someone from outside for her to realize what Nic is trying to tell her by his actions. Only then she allows Nic to slowly tear down her walls, to allow him to show her the real Nic Rayne.

I loved the banter between Harper and Nic, it’s refreshing and funny. Nic is a wonderful character, with every revelation I liked him a bit more.

This book is an entertaining funny story without being overly dramatic or too profound. It’s a lighthearted summer romance, just perfect for a lazy day at the pool or on the beach.
I am really looking forward to the next two books of this series!

This one left me grinning. It’s an odd combination of sweet romance with just the right amount of naughty to keep rock star romance fans from being disappointed. I thoroughly enjoyed the novelty of it being the guy who downplayed his intelligence so as not to alienate his fans as opposed to it being the woman playing dumb to catch a guy. This gave Nic’s character unexpected depth because even though he was the stereotypical rocker in regards to his sexual conquests, he was also a nice guy who is really quite intelligent, this making him quite endearing to me.

However, when Harper first meets Nic, she is NOT impressed. She has no interest in his music, in his looks, his arrogance, and most certainly, not his bed. Of course, her lack of interest spurs Nic’s interest in her and when the events unfold and Harper finds herself touring with the band for an exclusive article for work, Nic makes it clear that he gets what he wants and what he wants is Harper – not just for the night, but forever. At least he makes it clear to everyone but Harper, because bless her heart, the girl doesn’t get it. And this is a large part of what makes the book so enjoyable. What could come off as coy is merely social ineptness on her part. While her social awkwardness proves to be a challenge that Nic has to overcome, it also keeps Harper from succumbing to a mountain insecurities associated with dating a celebrity. I loved that she never second-guessed the relationship between Nic and Raven after her talk with Raven and didn’t attempt to force Nic to choose; it simply didn’t cross her mind because she’s not built that way. I found that extremely refreshing.

Always Rayne is a lovely read filled with entertaining banter between Nic and Harper and an endearing cast of characters I’m looking forward to spending more time with. As this is a rock star romance, the sex is, of course, hot. I appreciate that although we knew Nic had sex with women other than Harper at the beginning (before they started dating), the sex was merely mentioned and we weren’t subjected to the details. I enjoy reading sex scenes, but as I connected with Harper so quickly, I think reading a graphic scene between Nic and a groupie would have tarnished him a bit, so I’m glad that Ms. Avalon didn’t detail those scenes just for the sake of sexing up the book. Always Rayne is a definite re-read for me and I’m looking forward to the next book in the series.

Harper Leigh is trying to live her dream while starting out her young career as a journalist. She is working for a star- up online magazine that has yet to hit it big. Somewhat socially awkward, she tends to be a straight shooter with people. As a child of an inventor and writer, her focus has been on her books, career, and best friend. She doesn’t care about fashion and is inclined to think herself not attractive.

As a heartthrob actor and front man of the band Always Rayne, Nic Rayne is living the fast life. With his arrogant attitude and Lothario ways, he not only expects but has a different woman every night. When he meets Harper back stage after a concert, he’s immediately intrigued. She definitely doesn’t dress like the other women at the concert and she’s doing her best to avoid him. Even more fascinating is Harper doesn’t like him and gives a list of reasons why. For the first in a long time, he’s challenged by a woman and wants her. Nic, being one of the most popular celebrities, is used to getting his way. This time he wants the young writer embedded with his band for the end of their tour. He vows to use the time to get her to like him. Initially this comes across as more of a conquest to be had and not intended for a relationship but somewhere along the way that changes.

While I found Harper to be a bit flat, Nic is definitely one of the more memorable characters of recent reads. For the first half of the book I couldn’t understand how if he wanted to impress and change Harper’s mind about him, he would continue bedding every woman possible and flaunt it in front of her. For me, that is definitely not a turn on or a way to woo a girl. Fortunately he either begins to figure it out or is just more enamored with her than pursuing more women and they develop a true friendship. For the first time, he exposes his true self to someone other than his bandmates/family.

There isn’t much drama. Mostly it is Nic’s personality and then Harper’s ex-boyfriend returning for a bit at the end. Many of the subplot were a bit over the top but not unenjoyable. Overall, I found this to be an easy and quick read. I hope the subsequent two books will be just as fun.

Rating: 3.5 Stars

Harper Leigh is a writer for a online mag, and is up to her eyes in college debts. Her best friend wins tickets to a concert, Always Rayne are playing, and Harper finds herself face to face with Nic Rayne, the lead singer. Next thing she knows, she is on the last leg of their tour to be able to write an indepth interview, It all comes too much, and Harper threatens to leave, until Nic makes an offer she really cant refuse.

There are times when you get a book, that you dont have much hope for it. THIS is not one of those times! I was surprised at this book, and I have no idea why I didnt have much hope, I really dont!!

I loved Harper, her bookish ways, and librarian looks, and I loved how she ended up with this band! Her reaction to Nic is one of dislike, bordering on hatred, she HATES his ways with women, a different one every night, sometimes more than one! BUT as she gets to know the real Nic, only Nic (loved that!) you can feel her falling in love with him, the TRUE him. You could feel her learning about the true Nic, and you could, in some ways, feel Nic showing himself to her.

Now, this is a rocker book, and there is lots of sex going on BUT most of it is all talk. Harper and Nic dont get it on til nearly 2/3rds of the way through and I was expecting it to be far more explicit that it was. HOWEVER I loved that it wasnt! OH, its hot, dont get me wrong, seriously hot, but its not laid out for you on every page, as some rocker books are. The plot isnt too complicated, and moves at a reasonable speed, the tour is ten days so thats the entire span of the book. No major break ups and make ups, and there are lines laid down for the next two books, which I WILL be reading!

Its written in the first person, present tense from Harper's point of view. Im not a fan of that, but have not marked it down, because a good book, AND this is a fabulous book, will negate that fact. I would like to have heard from Nic too.

If you are a fan of rocker books, this is one for you. If not, then try it, you may be surprised, cos I know I was!

2 UNREALISTIC Stars

Harper our heroine is in her twenties, works for some online magazine, lives with her roommate Brooke, who is an recovering/but still drinking alcoholic.
Harper just broke up with her boyfriend of four years because he left for Harvard. The thing is even Harper doesn't know why they broke up. Had it been me? I would have followed his ass to Harvard and demanded some answers! You don't waste four years with someone and just let them kick you to the curb.

Let me stop going off track. So, Harper's roommate wins VIP tickets to a Concert for Always Rayne- a band of three cousins, the main one Nic Rayne is the hottest thing actor/musician.
Harper dislikes the band, she doesn't find Nic attractive but still goes to the concert wearing a long gypsy skirt and a floral sweater?shirt?
Un-fucking believable! Had I been her roommate I would have made her change knowing everyone else was going to look normal. Whatever!

So after the concert she peeks Nic's interest I guess for being so weirdly dressed and not fanning herself.. He offers her a night and she refuses. The next day, her boss makes her follow Nic around on a 10 day tour to have an all exclusive..
From day one, Nick is whoring self, and Harper is disgusted. However day 2 she is taking 150 thousand dollars from him just to share his bed with no sex, day 4 he is buying her a company for 1.5 million, day 7 he is gifting her dad a 250 thousand dollar car.

NO WAY IS THAT REALISTIC. This is not some bored billionaire with a "tie me up and spank me" fetish. He has gifted her almost 2 million dollars in 4 days of knowing her?

This book is based on a week's worth of events. What I hated about Harper was that she was so disgusted with Nic, and his whoring, and his life style., and he wasn't attractive and then she totally contradicted herself. She whored herself out, no matter how you look at it. She should have stuck to not liking him, but presents melted her weird persona and she dropped her panties quicker than your average groupie!

The book was unbelievable, and has been done too many times.

‘Always Rayne’ was one of those books that surprise you because after reading the synopsis you weren’t’ exactly sure what to expect, yet after you started to read you couldn’t put it down and were turning the pages into the wee hours of the night. ‘Always Rayne’ was that book for me.

I loved Harper Leigh in all her hilarious naiveté when it came to the Rocker lifestyle, her witty humor that made me laugh and the fact that she isn’t afraid of sharing her honest feelings and thoughts with anybody. After attending a concert of Always Rayne with her best friend Brooke, Harper meets Nic Rayne; the lead singer and notorious and legendary man-whore. A few minutes into their acquaintance and she tells him all the things she doesn’t like about him, which was only one thing that was hilarious. No one ever told Nic straight out that they didn’t like him, especially not women.

Nic Rayne on the other hand, I didn’t like all that much at the beginning, which was mostly due to the fact that as the reader we see him through Harper’s eyes and he did not make a very good first impression. I was, however, happy to have my opinion of him changed throughout the story. In the beginning Nic seemed to be a self-centered jerk who didn’t care about anyone but himself. He appeared to be bored and constantly looking for new challenges in his life, even if he had to walk all over people to do so. Yet, all of this changed when he met his match in Harper Leigh. Even though he was still a jerk sometimes, especially in the beginning when Harper was on tour with the band, he also showed that he genuinely cared about her. Of course, they both had their fair share of problems throughout their story, but managed to see them through by staying true to each other.

I immensely enjoyed this story of finding love in unexpected places. Both characters had a depth to them that made the story very entertaining and therefore never made me experience a dull moment. Further, the writing was excellent and managed to hold my attention from the very beginning and commanded my emotions from page one.

4.5 ROCKIN' STARS!

I seriously loved this book! It was not anything I was expecting from a typical rock star romance! It is was different, sweet, angsty, and had one rock star that could swoon you off your feet.

This is the story of Nic and Harper. Harper is a low maintenance, poor, and badly dressed professional. She has to go on tour with Always Rayne, the rock band for her entertainment magazine. She is not thrilled and is reluctant to go but has a ton of student debts so she needs her job. In walks Nic. He is part of the band and sexy as sin. She doesn't expect to feel the chemistry she does with him. When she is about to leave and say screw it because this is just not her thing, Nic makes a deal with her.. stay, sleep in his bed (sex optional but will happen), and he will pay off her student loans. She agrees. Nic wants Harper and he will stop at nothing to make her his. He knows she is her one and he just needs time to prove it to her. Harper thinks Nic is a womanizing bad boy but he wants a shot to prove her wrong. Will Harper give into temptation that Nic presents and take a chance on love or will she walk away from a potential shot at love and happiness?

I loved Nic. He was sweet, kind, sexy, alpha, and was totally determined to show Harper he was not a playboy. I also loved Harper. She was sweet, kid, kind of prudish in the beginning but once she got settled and familiar with the band, we really got to see her open up. The chemistry between these two was electric and practically poured off of the page. I will say that I was surprised that the sexy times were much later in the book considering the genre but we really just got more time of them getting to know one another before taking that step. I am hoping for more action from our Leo and Xander in the future books! ;)

I cannot wait for the next two books in this series!
This is my first read by this author and it won't be my last!

Harper is a writer for a upstart online magazine and perfectly happy to spend time with her friends and her books. But Brooke, Harpers roommate is determined to drag her out of her comfort zone and to a rock concert to see Always Rayne. While there, Harper hates it and is convinced every rumor she has ever heard about the lead singer Nic Rayne is absolutely true.

After a backstage encounter with him, the last thing Harper expects is to be bullied into going on the road with the band to write a behind the scenes article. And when Nic offers to pay her student loans in exchange for her spending the rest of the tour in his bed, Harper is more determined than ever to keep her distance. But the more time she spends with Nic, the more she realizes that he is a very different person than she thought...a person her heart doesn't want to allow her to deny.

I really loved this one right from the start. Harper is a feisty character who doesn't back down. I loved how she challenges Nic on everything and doesn't give in to him easily. Nic is a complicated character but the author does a good job of making him love able the more you learn about him. All the side characters were great as well.

My thoughts:

POV 1st person, Harper
Quick hook or slow starter? 5 (I was hooked from the first chapter)
Character development: 4.5
Level of Romance between characters: 4.5
Passion/Heat level: 4.5 (it takes some time for these two to get together but it is worth it. The sex scenes are well written with just the right amount of heat for the story.)
Angst/Heartbreak: 4 (a little in the beginning when they are still fighting each other but nothing too crazy)
Cliffhanger?: Not a huge one but the story line is left open for the next book.

Overall, I loved spending time with these characters and can't wait to read the next book in the series.
