I don't think I have laughed so hard reading a book before.
My reading experience was full of :
- people giving me weird looks
- spitting my drink on my kitchen table
- having cramps from unstoppable laughter.
Thank god it is a quick read because I don't think my abs would have survived more abuse.
I loved the author's flawless writing. I loved how she played with romance tropes and create the most unlikely dark romance wannabe character.
Read it, I promise you won't be disappointed.

This was truly a fun time! If you have second-hand cringe, be warned, but it’s worth it! Definitely a different direction for this author but just as amazing as her others!

Laughed Until I Cried
For any reader who ever wondered what those book boyfriend traits might look like in the “real world,” this is the book for you.
Before starting, the only thing I knew about this book was what the blurb and social media posts from the author showed me.
Here’s the premise:
Ethan gets set up on a blind date by his friend, Jake.
Jake tells Ethan that women love the men in romance novels and he needs to act like one. Ethan needs to be broody, smoldering, and possessive.
Maya expects a normal date, but gets Ethan who is following the advice of Jake. Needless to say, Maya’s date is anything but normal.
If it can go wrong for Ethan…it does.
Fabulously!
I was deep in love with Ethan at the start of the book.
The humor…I read it.
I said, “Oh no!” to myself so many times.
I laughed.
I SNORT laughed.
I flipped the page back and reread it.
Then I started laughing harder.
I couldn’t continue reading after some scenes, because I was seeing the words play out in my head as a full blown movie and my laughter took over.
Ethan was a total train wreck and I had my front row seat watching it all play out.
I may have sent text messages and voice clips to L. Ann and some others who I knew were reading this. I may have been laughing during the clips and not able to talk clearly. Who am I kidding? It wasn’t a matter of MAY, but a matter of I DID.
This novella will definitely be a go to read for me when I need a feel good story that makes me smile and laugh. If and when it’s available in print, I will get it on my shelf as soon as possible.
For anyone who thinks they need to put on an act and be someone they aren’t to make an impression, just be yourself. The people who matter will know your worth and celebrate you.
L. Ann is an author known for her dirty-talking rockstars with traumatic backstories, wolf shifters fighting to protect their pack, men with questionable pasts, and darker storylines. She is definitely known for collecting the tears of her readers. Romcom was NOT something I ever expected from her and I can honestly say that she has tackled this sub-genre of romance and come out a winner. She got more tears from me with this novella, but of a totally different kind.
Will we ever get another romcom from her? I don’t know, but I sure hope so. She has a way with words that had me feeling like I was a fly on the wall watching Ethan’s interactions with Maya, as well as listening in to his conversations with Jake.
I HIGHLY recommend this story. This reminded me of Pippa Grant’s The Pilot and the Puckup about Zeus Berger, because of the way I laughed at the scenes of second- hand embarrassment.

This is the most hilarious book I have EVER read! I was in hysterics more often than not throughout this whole book. There were instances I literally couldn’t catch my breath due to laughing so hard. My ribs hurt!
This book is Ethan and Maya’s story and Jake’s good intentions interfering.
I have read every book Lee Ann has written and they are all either dark romance, rockstar, bully romance or PNR. I would have bet money that she would never write a rom-com. BUT yet here we are with a masterpiece rom-com! This book has its required HEA but the journey to it is hysterical. It even has a three legged elderly moody cat named Marshmellow!
This book will be published on Valentine’s Day. You should head over to Amazon and preorder this book. It is definitely a must read. Keep it handy after you read it because when you hit your next reading slump this book will break you right out of it!! This book could easily be my favorite read of 2025!

It’s been ages since I’ve read a book this funny. I felt for the poor MMC Ethan so many times - and all the Ethans out there desperately trying to be like the mysterious guys from our books.
Not Your Book Boyfriend is very different from L. Ann’s other books, so don’t except her typical dark univers. However, this book is so much more. Funny, cringy, filled with awkward moments and real laughter.
Not Your Book Boyfriend is a rather short book, around 160 pages, and it makes it a perfect quick book to dive into.
But be aware - don’t read this book in public unless you want to embarrass yourself. Countless time I laughed so loud that people looked at me 🤭 but it is so worth the stares.

Watch it unfold as Jake gives him some intresting dating advices, get comfterble and make sure you have gone to the bathroom or you will have an accident. You litterly cannot miss out on this one.

It's been YEARS since I've laughed this hard reading a rom-com!!
I think I pulled several muscles and had near misses while snort laughing throughout this book! My husband kept asking me what was so funny, and I said just read it for yourself.
This was a quick read, and I finished it in one day!
Ethan is given tragically terrible romance advice for his first date with Maya, and hilarity ensues over the course of three dates.
This book reminded me of how much I love this genre, and if Lee Ann writes another, I will most definitely be reading it. I'm buying copies of these books for two of my single friends who will not only relate but appreciate the disaster that is dating these days!!

L.Ann isn’t known for her comedic side. If you know her past books she definitely likes to torture her readers. Well she still kinda did with this one because it’s side splitting funny. I was absolutely full on belly laughing. All I can say is this is a great laugh that is inspired by how one best friend convinces another to act like a broody book boyfriend. Jake is a legend. Poor Ethan is sceptical but goes along with it anyway and that’s where our lovely hereon Maya becomes more curious than concerned. A short hilarious read great for a palette cleanser.

Ethan is trying to pull of some of the classic book boyfriends moves after his best friend tells him what women want in their men.
But Ethan is nothing like those dark mysterious men in the books. The things that unfold had me laughing out loud… he really was the sweetest.
I loved Ethan so much, he definitely wins some book boyfriend points for effort 🤣.
And Marshmallow was a great addition to the story!

Oh...... The second hand embarrassment is real and cringe worthy.
This book has me smiling and chuckling to myself from start to finish. Admittedly not my usual reaction to a book written by L.Ann, but the laughter was good, and was the only danger to my kindle.... Dropping the thing because I was laughing too hard.
A brilliant read, and highly recommended.

"Logic says no. Self-preservation says absolutely not. but curiosity? Curiosity is a sneaky little enabler."
Maya was equal parts WTH just happened and intrigue when it came to Ethan's quirky behavior
I swear I could not stop laughing
"You realize red flags are called that because they're bad right? Like, that's the whole point of the color scheme."
Ethan was so out of his comfort zone. He was trying but despite all of Jake's "research" he just kept missing the mark. But he was so dedicated to the persona.
"Reality is messy and awkward and sometimes involves getting stuck in your own shirt while attempting to be sexy"
I highly highly recommend this one - not only for the ab workout but for the laugh-out-loud antics that each new encounter delivered. Every chapter was a new FUBAR for our sweet Ethan. Don't worry he eventually figures it out. And Maya, she never knew what new "experience" her time with him would bring put she saw the real him. Thank the goddess.

oh my god! I have no words. I can’t stop laughing at how hilarious this book was. “Not my book boyfriend” is a change in direction for L Ann and her stories, L Ann usually writes dark romances but she decided to do something different and I’m so glad she wrote this hilarious rom com.
Ethan this poor poor man has been lead astray by his best friend Jake who has managed to convince him to be the perfect book boyfriend for maya. Jake has a plan that Ethan must follow to make Maya swoon and fall helplessly in love with Ethan’s dark and dangerous persona.
Maya has agreed to go on a blind date set up by her friend. When Maya and Ethan meet she is blindsided by his odd behaviour, this is not what she expected when she agreed to this date by any means. Maya is also intrigued by Ethan, she sees something in him maybe just maybe he’s worth taking the risk for.
“Not your book boyfriend” is a fantastic story that will have you cringing at Ethan’s antics yet you still want more. This is fun rom com that will have you laughing until your sides hurt long after you’ve finished it.

This book was absolutely hilarious! I have never accidentally snorted so much liquid up my nose from laughing so hard! The main characters are relatable and the second hand embarrassment was easily felt!

Ethan is a sweet down to earth guy that is easy to love and Maya is a great woman who has to wonder what in the world?!

This was a surprise L. Ann because she’s known for her angsty, dark and heated stories. This was the complete opposite of a romcom that is good for the soul that will have you giggling and rolling your eyes in the best way. I absolutely loved these characters. Ethan is a a great best friend to Jake who is something else and comes up hair brain ideas. Kelly (Jake’s wife) sets Ethan up with her friend Maya because she thinks they’re perfect together. Jake however convinced him to be a book hero. You can imagine how this goes. A fun light heart read that I thoroughly enjoyed. Watching this whole story unfold was awkward and embarrassing and a train wreck you can’t help but watch. I mean any book with a line like this has to be a winner right! “You mean you don't prefer the serial killer approach?” Read it! It’s a great escape with a hea and delightful characters.

Not your book boyfriend is the latest release by L Ann and the perfect companion for Valentine’s Day!
It is possibly the cringiest book I have ever read, and in the best possible way! The second hand embarrassment is hilarious. I have never laughed so much (or tried to with a throat infection) as I did when reading this.
When nerdy Ethan, down on his romantic luck reluctantly agrees to accept the dating advice from his pal Jake, chaos literally ensues. As Jake attempts to convince Ethan that the answer to all his woes is in dark romances 😂

It is possibly the cringiest book I have ever read, and in the best possible way! The second hand embarrassment is hilarious. I have never laughed so much (or tried to with a throat infection) as I did when reading this.
When nerdy Ethan, down on his romantic luck reluctantly agrees to accept the dating advice from his pal Jake, chaos literally ensues. As Jake attempts to convince Ethan that the answer to all his woes is in dark romances 😂

This is a new novella coming from L. Ann on Valentine's Day and it's definitely a unique fun read. I loved it 😍
If you want a palette cleanser or just a fun easy read that'll have you laughing I highly recommend this.
Haven't we all wondered what it would be like if our guys tried out some of the things from our favorite books? And I don't just mean in the bedroom. I've always told my husband if he did some of these things I read about I'd probably laugh at him. Well this gives you that insight.
I absolutely adore Ethan the MMC. He really did try and his best friend Jake had me giggling every time he opened his mouth lol 😆
The second hand embarrassment for the FMC Maya is so real. I found myself covering my face laughing and thinking "This poor girl" lol 😆
I needed something like this after the fantasy read I just finished.
I honestly would love to see this as a movie. I think it would make a hilarious Romcom 😏

Hilarious!
This is the funniest book I have ever read. From the 1st page to the end of the book, Ethan and Maya's story is the funniest, cringy but heartwarming story I have ever read.
I snort laughed, belly laughed and OMG laughed all the way through. The tears of laughter blurring my vision were an issue at times but sooo worth it.
What a complete contrast to Lee Ann's usual books, but it is a balm for the sole for all of us spicy book devotees, a breadth of air (albeit air crackling with major secondhand embarrassment)
Go and enjoy!
And then go and read all Lee Ann's way way darker books and her Rockstar books, you will not regret it!

I was so surprised by this book from L. Ann. It’s definitely different than anything she’s ever done and it was amazing! She made me laugh so hard, and I don’t know why I am surprised by that when she writes characters like the boys in the Forgotten Legacy series. Those guys are hilarious and I loved that she shows that same silliness in a whole new story, with whole new characters. I loved the characters in this book and the laugh out loud story she wrote! Great job L. Ann! You really can do it all!!!

I don’t think I’ve laughed as hard as I did while reading this book. The type of laugh that makes you snort with tears and the good old stomach cramping type of laugh. This book is a short novella and can be read in a couple of hours. It’s the perfect palate cleanser. The epilogue was spot on and you’ll know what I’m referring to when you get to that part. Just make sure you don’t eat or drink while reading. You might find yourself choking or find yourself spitting by accident!

What a hilarious read. This book had me snorting, giggling and full blown laughing at how Ethan tried our favorite dark book boyfriend moves. I loved the interactions between the main characters and Ethan’s inner monologue as he tried each of the moves. This story had me devouring the words needing to know what would happen. Though not like her normal books, the author delivered another amazing story that had me hooked from the start.

This was by far the funniest book I’ve EVER read. I’m usually not a big fan of romcoms but i’m glad and grateful that i got the opportunity to receive this ARC. I liked the interaction between the characters and loved how the FMC tried to look beyond the MMC’s weird but very funny actions while trying not to judge him😂. The storyline was well written and fast paced. This was just another masterpiece i highly recommend! 🥰

This book will make you laugh and realize you love reading about morally gray men but that's where they should stay in books. Ethan is trying to be the dark, mysterious man but it isn't working everything is going wrong. Maya thinks Ethan is unstable but she's curious about him. I loved this book, if you need a good laugh and a great story, this book is for you.

This was such a fun read. I covered my face giggling, dying from second-hand embarrassment for poor Ethan. I found myself back and forth on whether or not Maya should run for the hills or not. It's the perfect palate cleanser about 2 people just looking for a connection, best friends that mean well, and a judgemental 3-legged cat that stole the show for me.

What the actual ....... did I just read. Hahaha. I'm still shaking my head, but with a smile on my face. Maya and Ethan. Holy cow, what a train wreck. I didn't laugh out loud....more a, "smother my gasping with my hand laugh".
I write this with a smile, and I'm left with two thoughts. One, that sometimes our best friends are unhinged. Maybe that's why we need them. And two.... maybe said best friends advice, it may have just worked! And now I think I'm unhinged....haha
