The aliens crash-landed on Earth eleven years ago. And now, sixteen-year-old Victoria Hale feeds them. With her emotions.

Victoria is an EVE - an Emotion Vesicle Engraft - and one of few humans who are genetically capable of producing emotions for the Gutters to feed on. She's doing it for the money - her sister Alisa needs a good doctor, and fast. But what she didn't count on was being sent to the world's first desegregated high school for Gutters and humans. She didn't count on the paparazzi, the protestors, or the insane Gutter politics and government secrets. She didn't count on the crimson-eyed Gutter prince with an intriguing heart of cold iron, either.

She especially didn't count on murder.

But it's counting on her.

"Eleven years ago, aliens landed on Earth..."

AND THE FUN BEGINS!!!!!
description

THIS BOOK WAS OUT OF THIS WORLD (pun intended)!!!!! I was in a bad reading hiatus, and I seriously needed a book fix. Luckily, I finally decided to purchase this book AND IT WAS WORTH IT!!! Sara Wolf did it again!!!

"There’s a good, clean, gentle silence. Diamond dust falls between us, the frozen air glittering. And in this moment, everything is easy, and beautiful, and nothing hurts.

It won’t last.

But I try to make it."

description

AND YES, GOOD THINGS NEVER LAST BECAUSE A BIG "OMG" TO THAT ENDING!!!! IT NEARLY KILLED ME!!!!!! SARA WOLF ALWAYS MANAGES TO TORTURE ME WITH HER ENDINGS!!!! I AM JUST.......WHY?!?!???
description

With gutters--or aliens--living on the Earth for 11 years now, the government finally decides to establish Green Hills High School, a school wherein both humans and gutters finally come together. This was mainly built up to promote understanding between the two different races. Fear Me Not starts off with Victoria Hale--usually called as Vic--signing up at the school as an EVE or Emotion Vesicle Engraft, which are people who have the right conditions to feed gutters with their emotions. EVEs are also given a huge sum of money, if ever they accomplish their assignment, and feed their respective gutter well.
"That moment in history is shared among you. It ties you to each other. We hope you make many such memories here. We will advise you to interact with the other race. This may make you uncomfortable. This may make you afraid. But know this - fear is a positive thing. To the Gutters, emotion is energy, food, the very lifeblood in their bodies. To humans, emotions like fear change you, challenge you, and forge you into better people. So don’t be afraid of fear. Embrace it.”

description

Having lost her mother because of a stampede against aliens, it's undeniable that Vic is not very fond of the gutters. But due to unavoidable circumstances, namely her sister needing medical help that costs a lot and her father working almost 24/7, Vic decides to be an EVE and unfortunately, mingle with the gutters.

And of course, there she meets Shadus...
Brown eyes. I do a double take.

They aren’t quite brown, more like rust. The irises streak with red, like the color of blood. They belong to a male Gutter. His eyes are shadowed by thick lashes and long bangs, his hair unkempt and messy. He’s slouched, elbows on the table behind him. His body is lean, like he doesn’t eat properly. His cheekbones are razor sharp and his shoulders are broad, his expression completely bored on his olive skin.

description

I mean, when I think of aliens, I imagine this:
description
description

But after reading this book, I now imagine aliens like this:
description

AHHHHHH SHADUS!!!!!!! YOU CUTIE EXTRA TERRESTRIAL BEING!!!!!!! I AM IN LOVE WITH YOU TO THE MOON AND BACK (pun intended...again)!!!! YOU ARE MY NUMBER ONE HEAVENLY BODY!!!!!
description

I swear, after reading this book, I belted out to Katy Perry's E.T.!!!! It just fits perfectly with this book!!!
description
"Suddenly I’m so much closer than I was to him, my body moving without my direction. Our shoulders touch, my chest glancing his. My EVE organ feels weightless, light and bouncy beneath my ribs. Shadus’ eyes widen as my face nears, and then, just when I think he’s going to back off or call me a disgusting human, he reaches his hand up to barely graze my cheek.

And it is the end of me."

description

Vic and Shadus were just....
But they’re more than just mates. They’re extra limbs, extensions of each other and at the same time, mirror reflections. Two faces of one coin and all that. Even when they’re far away, they’re always with each other. That is how deep their bond is.

description

I loved their witty banters, and the way they tease each other. I guess, aliens and humans can make a great combination?
“It sounds like Creeps. Crepes. Creeps,” He tries experimentally.

There’s a silence.

“That was my attempt at human humor.”

description

And just their awkward but sweet nothings.
"I don’t comment on the way his hand seems to fit nicely over mine - like two pieces of a puzzle."

"I’d been paralyzed by that touch in the strangest way; my every nerve on fire and frozen all at once."

description

The other characters also made the story much more interesting, especially Raine and Taj! I just loved the three sothos! Alisa, Vic's dad, Dakota, Ulsi, and Yulan are a few of my favorite characters in this book. The concept itself was well-thought, and I really loved how the story was done. This book's concept is not alike with the Lovely Vicious trilogy, but I still got hooked. Although, I wished Shadus and Vic had more moments and a little bit more chemistry. But nonetheless, I really enjoyed this read.

I can't wait for the next installment!!! Seriously, I can't! That ending is just unacceptable!

Oh yeah, here's a dancing alien to end my review. I don't even know why I put this.

It's become increasingly difficult for me to remember when I actually thought about the consequences of reading a book in which the sequel is non-existent.

Like, my ability to reach intelligent conclusions? Yeah, I've never had that one.

Rating: 😑😑😑😑4.5 (Rounded down, because. Where. Is. The. Second. Book.)

This book is still one of my favorites. And shall forever stay a favorite. One of those that carved its story into my veins and left the footprints in my memory. I love aliens, and that's on period. Is that slightly concerning? Yes. But when was the last time I wasn't concerned for myself-

The storyline was amazing. The plot was unique (at least for me). Characters were so inordinately real and frankly, I would reread this all over again, just for the torturing myself aspect of it.

Does it make sense? Not exactly. Still, I adored being able to get submersed into the story for four glorious hours, miraculously without interrupting beings tempting my urge to go on a murder spree.

Sara Wolf, I have come to the abrupt peroration that maybe you forgot to write the second book. Because now I'm left WITHOUT ANSWERS, and WITHOUT CLOSURE. Whilst other books are being published by thee.

So, as I consider myself a nice human being, I shall leave you with the benefit of the doubt.
Write it, please.
I know you can.
😊

Tips and Tricks on how to leave Booksy in a catatonic state with a few side effects:

~Write a book.
~Publish said book.
~Make book good.
~Make Booksy fall in love with said book.
~Let Booksy reread book over and over again.
~Make her find out that there’s no sequel.

~Sleep with one eye open.

Now, I will search up anime guys with red eyes, so I can print them, make them into pillows and at least have the warm comfort of knowing my husband Shadus is with me.
Because SOMEONE didn't let me HAVE him.
In ANY way.
Not even in my DREAMS.

Wow, Muchas Gracias.👏👏👏👏

.......................................................
👑🍩 Finished🍩👑

Rereading, because why not?

Also, I am on the verge of a breakdown thinking back on the fact that there is no sequel...

So...
Common sense? Nowhere to be seen.

FULL REVIEW UP!!

4.5 I-love-Aliens Stars!!

Okay I have read a few alien books and loved them so I totally went in ready for this one.I absolutely loved the lovely vicious series by Sara Wolf (Book 3 I am waiting for you!) and I will be reading everything this awesome woman writes. I was captivated by just the synopsis and was super excited when I got an arc.

'But they’re more than just mates. They’re extra limbs, extensions of each other and at the same time, mirror reflections. Two faces of one coin and all that. Even when they’re far away, they’re always with each other. That is how deep their bond is.'

Aliens aka Gutters have landed on earth. They have been living here for 11 years now and the government have now decided to create a school where Gutters and Humans can live and take the same classes. You are each set up with a partner who will be your mentor of sorts. This school is set up help gutters and humans with understanding that they should live together in peace and not violence. To give humans a better understanding of Gutters and vice versa. There is also the part where those who sign up become an EVE(Emotion Vesicle Engraft) these are people- and one of few humans who are genetically capable of producing emotions for the Gutters to feed on.Those who volunteer get a largo sum of money and thats the only reason Vic is there.

Victoria Hale aka Vic has just signed up to become and EVE. She doesn't care for the Gutters, not even a little bit.She is here for the money and not to make friends. After her mother was killed during a protest against Gutters she hates them, she blames them. All she needs to do is go to school and live with them peacefully to make sure she gets the money she needs. Simple right?

Wrong!

She is partnered up with Shadus. He is just a ray of sunshine! LOL

Oh Shadus.I love you! I need an alien.Anyone out there? Get in contact asap ;)

I loved Shadus and Vic's banter, they were hilarious! I really wanted more scenes with just them too, I NEED more Shadus and Vic scenes! Both of them are stubborn and feel something for the another they just don't want to accept it, oh there were funny awkward moments and then everything got crazy.

“It sounds like Creeps. Crepes. Creeps,” He tries experimentally.

There’s a silence.

“That was my attempt at human humor.”

That ending! Sara Wolf why you gotto torture me like that? why! Every book of yours I read you have to kill me with the cliffhanger endings.I can't wait much longer woman! :P Can't wait to find out what will happen next and how Shadus and Vic's relationship develops..please please be more Shadus and Vic scenes! The writing had me hooked from the start and I didn't want this book to end.

Differences between the Gutters and the Eves
Gutters feed on emotions while Eves feed on human food
Gutters are aliens while Eves are special humans, whose emotions the Gutters feed on.
Sixteen years old Victoria is one of the Eves assigned to take care of the aliens that inhabits the earth. Unknowingly, she also happens to be the Zoi, a weapon of mass destruction in the wrong hands.
This book is definitely a cliffhanger but I see some potentials in it. It was slow at the beginning but picked up eventually.

I am a big fan of Sara Wolf having read & loved the Lovely Vicious series (cannot wait for Brutal Precious by the way) so while I don't particularly like aliens, I was sure she would make me love it. And she did not disappoint; I loved it! the fact that I like and I'm rooting for someone with ruby red eyes & lizard skin tells it all... Really looking forward to the next book.

This book is insanely solid. Like I'm not even kidding. Even more so than "Alienated".

See, the thing is, authors almost portray aliens as the equivalent to superhero robots. They speak in monotones, have super abilities of some sort, are slightly awkward in social situations, insanely cute, super smart and have a limited knowledge on a human thing called 'emotions'. But "Fear Me Not" was exactly that and more.

You have Victoria, who from the start, was already such a likable human character. She had a witty tongue that actually made me laugh out loud and a backbone that bent for no one. She wasn't by any means the perfect girl who had the perfect body and perfect face and perfect feet. She had her issues of course - like any well-developed character - but nonetheless she was a major factor in making this book so amazing.

Then there's Shadus who is just the perfect match for Victoria. He wasn't the stereotypical alien. He had attitude and a unique personality that made him such an interesting character. He was portrayed in such a way that he actually developed and changed as the story progressed. And God did he get more lovable and just adorable.

Shadus and Victoria made such an amazing not-couple - since they never officially became a couple but it's leading there and I think that it's just so freaking cute and you can't help but root for them. I swear, the best part of a relationship is the beginning. When nothing's defined just yet, and they do all those small things for each other and it's just so sweet.

Even all the other side characters had a life of their own that brought everything together. I actually saw the importance to them unlike other books where some side characters are just about useless.

And the ending. Was. So. Heart. Stopping. It's not even fair that there's no mention of a second book yet. It's complete and absolute torture.

This book made my heart flutter with happiness. I adored it! I was a little hesitant when I first starting reading this book. In the first two chapters I really did not think I was going to like Victoria at all. She was cold and rude to everyone. However, when Victoria would talk to her sister and let her walls come down, she became so much more likable. I was able to really connect with Victoria and respect how strong of a girl she was. Victoria went from being my least favorite character, to being the character I wish I could be.

I cannot talk about this book without gushing over my favorite character, Shadus. Shadus comes off as a jerk at first, but as he opens up to Victoria he becomes more and more lovable. I, like most people, think of green slimy creatures when I hear the word "alien". However, Shadus is the complete opposite.

"His eyes are shadowed by thick lashes and long bangs, his hair unkempt and messy. He's slouched, elbows on the table behind him. His body is lean, like he doesn't eat properly. His cheekbones are razor sharp and his shoulders are broad, his expression completely bored on his olive face."

The scenes between Shadus and Victoria were great. Most of their scenes included witty banter that would make me laugh out loud. It was hilarious and adorable when Shadus would try and use human humor, and Victoria would have to correct him. There were scenes between Shadus that were so sweet and innocent that I felt warm and fuzzy inside. Then, there were scenes that were filled with heat and chemistry that made me crave for more.

"Suddenly, I'm so much closer to him than I was to him, my body moving without my direction. Our shoulders touch, my chest glancing his. My EVE organ feels weightless, light and bouncy beneath my ribs."

Besides romance, this book had suspense and mystery that kept me hooked. I tore through this book, and I am now anxiously awaiting the sequel after the cliff-hanger ending. I highly recommend "Fear Me Not" to anyone looking for a unique and enjoyable YA book.

“They judge with their eyes alone. There is nothing wrong with you. There is something very wrong with them.”

Fear Me Not is the first book in The EVE Chronicles by Sara Wolf.

Eleven years ago aliens unwillingly crash-landed on earth. Unlike humans, these aliens eat emotions instead of food. An advanced device placed in those know as EVE's (Emotion Vesicle Engraft) provides these aliens with their much needed food, and the EVE's with much needed money.

Victoria becomes an EVE in order to raise money for her sick sister and is forced to attend the world's first desegregated high school as a result. Paired with a crimson-eyed moody alien prince she not only has to navigate high school life with aliens thrown in the mix but she is also forced to to deal with conspiracies and murder.
'"How were the cameras taken care of?" I ask. "I mean, I know you guys can climb walls of whatever -"

"We don't 'climb walls', we use the sum attractive force between epidermal molecules to -"

I give him the 'don't test me after a long night' look.

"We climb walls," He says quickly.'

I'm a bit torn on how I feel about this book. I did enjoy it but I was only really just starting to get into it when it cut off (on a cliffhanger of course).

Some of the main characters; Victoria, Shadus, Raine, Taj and Dakota to name a few are likeable but I felt they only really started to develop towards the end.
'Brown eyes. I do a double take.

They aren't quite brown, more like rust. The irises streak with red, like the color of blood.'

I did find the whole lizard in a human body thing a bit strange but I think it's preferable to books when aliens are practically the same as humans. Not sure how the series will pan out as far as the aliens keeping their human form or not but I will definitely be reading them to find out!
"If all I need to do is smile, your culture is highly dependent on the shallowness of outer appearances.”

“Yeah,” I laugh. “We know. A million dead philosophers have told us before.”

Overall I liked the book but am withholding my judgement until I read the next book. I gave it three stars as it has potential but has a way to go just yet.

Victoria does something selfless to help her family, but she may be in more danger than anyone realizes. Now, she is being used, and she has to survive with the aliens. But it may all turn out wrong in the end.

This book was okay, it wasn't great, but not bad either. I enjoyed the heroine a whole lot, and I liked the overall idea of the store. I did not like the stuff that happened towards the end and the ending though. That was a bit frustrating, and sort of a cliffhanger. Other than that, I liked this one, and it was nice to read to pass the time with, plus it had Aliens!

Note to self! Before starting book one in a series that was written over 5 years ago, make sure said series was actually completed!
Rookie mistake on part.
Honestly, it was a really enjoyable read and I would have loved to know what happens next but that's not going to happen. Don't read it. Learn from my mistakes and save yourself the disappointment of a starting a series that will never be completed.

Whoa

This book is incredible!

Sara Wolf has created a story about a new Earth with the landing of aliens. Eleven years after crashing to Earth the aliens aka ‘gutters’ are now co-existing with the humans. They have opened their first inter-cultural boarding school for gutters and humans.

Here are some things you should know about ‘Gutters’

1. They are not your typical green guys

Gutters have a different structure than humans; more like lizards. But to make things a bit comfortable, they have changed their outer appearance to a human form.
Fun fact: Even though they have a reptile origin they are not related to Salazar Slytherin

“Nice work.” I straighten out of his grasp and smile. “Ten points to Slytherin for teamwork.”
“I was slithering, was I?” He cocks his head.

2. The characters
Meet Victoria and Shadus - The badass human girl and the alien prince.

“That’s because you’re Gutters and you’re weird,” I hiss. “Good weird. Uh. Not bad weird. You just have different standards. I’m not so popular with the humans, okay? Never have been. I’m the weird emo goth girl who’s too tall and wears too much black.”

“Why would being tall matter? Or wearing black?”

Okay, maybe our girl has some insecurities. She is that girl who always shows that she is a strong woman and doesn’t need anybody to help her. Will her culture partner, the deadly alien prince be able to see through her suit of armour?

Also, this story has a good set of sub-characters: Raine, Taj, Ulsi, even Dakota. They are helping the main characters to build the story of the human-gutter in a rather interesting way. It feels like you are watching a movie/ tv series

*Hey producers/directors you got to read this one *

3. Rich Gutter content with a spice of Extraterrestrial politics
The Gutter world is going to blow your mind. The tech, the culture, the rituals and the folklore are mesmerizing. As a reader, I felt like I got trapped in their enchanting civilization.

4. Slow burn… romance?

Yes…
It is going to kill you slowly.

5. The cliffhanger

It is so good! Trust me this ending will shatter your heart into pieces!
Arghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

FYI In one of her tweets in 2019, she mentioned that FMN sequel will not be arriving anytime soon since she is busy with her other projects.

But hey my poor heart is waiting for that day till its last breath. I’m not going to let go of my amazing human-alien babies.

Actually ‘Fear me not’ is one of the best works by Sara Wolf. The world-building, the culture and the characters are remarkable.
Plus the dialogues! Sara Wolf is the queen of writing witty banter.

So what are you waiting for!?
Hurry, go and grab your copy of Fear Me Not by Sara Wolf.
You’re going to luuuurve it!

4.5

I received a review copy of this book for my stop on the blog tour at Donnie Darko Girl.

Fear Me Not is the first book I've read by Sara Wolf and was as fabulous as I've heard many readers describe her books to be. I'm drawn to YA stories with aliens though I haven't read many, and this story was entertaining and engaging - I flew through it in one sitting.

Victoria hates the aliens, who have been nicknamed "Gutters" since their source of food comes from human emotions collected in an organ implanted in, well, your gut. She's been implanted with one in exchange for money which will help improve her family's quality of life. Her mother died at a rally protesting the Gutters, and Victoria's hatred for the Gutters stems from her grief over losing her mother, which was understandable to me. I can't imagine how I would feel if aliens landed right here right now.

The way the government handles the precarious relationship between humans and Gutters was realistic in my opinion. I could just see the government jumping all over themselves trying to convince us these aliens are harmless when it would be impossible to know they can be trusted 100%. Even though it's been eleven years without attacks, I still would be leery.

I don't come across books too often with such beautiful writing. I don't know how else to describe it. The writing drew me in to the story, and I was so completely engrossed in what I was reading, I forgot they were words on a page. They became more than that to me; I was just that present in the story.

The interactions between Victoria and her Gutter partner, Shadus, were hilarious and snarky. It was rewarding to see their walls begin to crumble. I couldn't get over how much alike they were in terms of their being hostile towards the other race and knew they happened to be perfectly paired up to learn that you can't judge someone by what they look like or their race.

Fear Me Not leaves you with one hell of a cliffhanger, so be prepared for that. It was definitely worth the read for me, and I don't mind waiting for the next one. If the second book is anything like this one, it'll be well worth the wait.

I received this book from Sara Wolf and “Paranormal Romance and Authors That Rock” in exchange for an honest review.

Aliens, aka Gutters, crash landed on earth 11 years ago. They feed off of human emotions, and this is done with a special organ that is placed into humans, EVEs, and it converts the emotions into a liquid for the Gutters to drink. In an effort to integrate the aliens, a special school is formed that both EVES and Gutters attend. This story follows the lives of Victoria, an alien hater, and three royal aliens on their quest for acceptance, friendship, and to prevent war. This is a major cliff hanger, so be prepared!

This was an excelled book. Victoria is mouthy, strong, and has so much more to offer than what meets the eye. This is the same for the other main characters. There is so much more than appearances. I loved that the book was fascinating, enchanting, and had a bit of rawness to it. This book is suitable for the mature young adult population, and I was happy with the underlying moral compass it had. It was the perfect book to discover that you should never judge a book by its cover. People should be judged on their behavior and what’s in their hearts instead of what other people tell you to believe because of race, color, or gender.

I enjoyed all of the characters; even the evil ones. The story was so well written that I read this book very quickly and I found myself thinking about it when I wasn’t able to read it. I am definitely looking forward to the next installment.

4 awesome zol fangs for this fantastic read!

A note from the author:
Hey guys! Sara Wolf here. I've written a lot of books before Lovely Vicious, but it's only now that I realized people might want to read them!

So I'd like to introduce FEAR ME NOT, a Young Adult Sci-Fi about aliens, and the girl who's signed up to the feed them with her emotions, since they don't eat regular food like we do. Victoria is a messed up girl trying to help her broken family, and Shadus is a lone-wolf alien prince with nothing to go back to. Together, they forge a friendship (and maybe more!) amid a lot of hate and racial tension. But there are people, and aliens, who'd do anything to keep them apart. It's very much a Romeo and Juliet type of story, but with a 1960's desegregation vibe, and space lasers, of course. I hope you enjoy it!

I was really excited reading this story. The characters were relatable, the aliens/human drama was realistic, and the world building & writing weren't terrible. I sat and read it in one sitting.

Now I regret everything.

I wish I hadn't read it; not because it was terrible, but due to the little problem of it being a start to a series with no sequel planned to ever be written. I'm not joking. Someone asked the author when the next book would be released and she responded, "I'm not sure when I'd write HATE ME NOT, let alone release it. I'm sort of corralled into focusing on new projects/projects that aren't self-pubbed." Note: this is 2 years after Fear Me Not was released.

It's pretty safe to say reading this book was a waste of time. *sigh* Guess I need to find a new book. Next time I'll check the author's plans BEFORE I start reading.

**UPDATE**
The sequel is in the works!

Wow, read it in one sitting

first let me state I need book two NOW! that being said the characters flourished under the skilled hand is Sara wolf. the concept of aliens on earth is a hard one to write. aside from the ease of acceptance of the "gutters" taking the nickname humans gave them, I was pleasantly surprised at the depth she got into. from cultural to personal development I was awed. I ate the book in one sitting. 8 straight hours of reading. it is rare now a days I find a book that I don't skip a page or two in, or find myself skimming. yet I could not part with or risk a single word missed. I highly recommend this book. but beware the ending gives no closure and begs a book two.

This book was a reach out of my comfort zone, but I'm so glad I went into it with an open mind. The story grabbed me right at chapter one and kept my attention throughout. Our main girl, Victoria, has a fun, authentic YA voice and it's easy to follow even with the very new world this story navigates. My only qualm? It's part of a series and the second one isn't out yet. I'm trying not to get too itchy because the fact I can't dive into the next does nasty things to my anxiety ;)

I have reread this book multiple times now. As I have with all her books. Breathlessly waiting for book two. Sara Wolf has a way of making you follow madly in love with all her characters. Funny, witty and unbelievably imaginative. Highly recommend all her books.

Tired plot

If you saw starcrossed you have the premise for this book. The only difference is starcrossed was well written. Sorry I wasted energy on this.

✯✯5 Earth Shattering Stars!!✯✯
Eleven years ago, aliens landed on Earth.

"To the Gutters, emotion is energy, food, the lifeblood in their bodies. To humans, emotions like fear change you, challenge you, and forge you into better people. So don't be afraid of fear. Embrace it."

Sara Wolf has done it to me again!! Every series she comes out with gets better then the last. I read both her Arranged & Lovely Vicious series's. But, this one is totally not like the last one's she has put out. I loved how different it was from everything I have read before. It has humans & aliens and everybody trying to figure out whats right and wrong. How to try to follow what they believe and not by what other people are telling them. Sara did an awesome job!!

Fear Me Not follows Victoria AKA Vic as she enters Green Hills High School as a EVE (Emotion Vesicle Engraft). She is going to be feeding the Gutters her emotions. The aliens AKA Gutters crash landed on earth 11 years before and haven't been able to fix their spaceship and leave. The government and the aliens have come up with the plan to open this school where BOTH human & gutter children go to school together. One gutter & human share a room together and become culture partners. They have to study together and teach the other one about their world.

"They're not going to let us leave, Shadus. They're going to kill us all. All of us. And they're going to make it look like an accident, so the general public doesn't suspect anything."

It is definitely not as easy as it sounds. Humans do not trust Gutters. Gutters do not trust humans. But, unfortunately for the Gutters they NEED the humans to survive. So why would the humans agree to let their children go to school with Gutters? Money! When the humans fulfill their contract they get paid a lot.

"You'll never understand the sacrifices we've made just to survive on this planet. And you'll never care. Because you're a human. And all they do is pretend to care."

Victoria's mom died in a stampede surrounding the Gutters. Her mom hated them and was always one of the first when the protests against the Gutters started. So, why would she agree to become a EVE? Her younger sister is very sick. Her father is working 24/7 and is struggling to pay for her treatments. Vic's compatibility with the EVE is so good that she'll get paid so high that she can't say no.

Now, she's paired up with Shadus who's family is high up in the Gutter world. Shadus is not like most of the other Gutters. He speaks no one! Her roommate is Raine. Her family is high up too. Raine is also a model & on every magazine cover. She tries to be friendly with Vic. But, Vic stops it real quick.

Only certain people can be EVEs. Everybody knows that. Genetic dispositions, blood types, health; all of it's a factor. The clinics test humans for a specific genetic marker that makes it easier for the body to accept the EVE organ.

Vic is on a mission. Get through this year and get the money to help her sister. It should be easy!

Vic & Shadus have a very interesting relationship. They agree to be not-friends! Yes, they have to study together and whatnot. But, unlike a lot of the other Gutter/Human friendships popping up all over the place. They will not be one of them. That's a lot harder then what they thought as well.

Over time together things change between them. Shadus starts telling Vic things about the Gutters. Things NO human should know. Shadus lets Vic know that it doesn't matter who she tells nobody will believe her. Vic on the other hand gives Shadus information too. Stuff like smile you won't be so scary. Or explain what words to use & not use.

"Gutters are not dangerous. Despite the rumors, Gutters have no special abilities, or enhanced series. We are in human bodies, after all. We are as you are. Lastly, culture, and we ask the same for you."

They quickly become friends whether they like it or not. Deep down they do. But, they'd never say it out loud.

Vic becomes fast friends with Dakota. Another human who gets picked on constantly and reminds her of her younger sister. She also becomes friends with another Gutter Taj. He too is high up.

Vic literally becomes friends with the highest of high Gutters! She sees stuff firsthand that no other human ever would. She is learning rather quickly that not all gutters are as bad as the protesters have made them out. She may not agree with how they do things on their planet. But, who is she to judge.

"I'm not trying to make friends. I'm an Executioner. My duty is to deal death. Friends don't tend to stick around when your job is to behead people."

Vic gets into a nice routine with her friends Shadus, Raine, Taj & Dakota. Until everything changed. Things started blowing up. Explosions. Gutter/Human start dating. Murder. Parents pulling their children both Gutter & Human out of school.

"We probably shouldn't be friends. That'd be dangerous. But, i mean. We can be not-friends."

Now, Vic & her 3 Gutter friends are in a race. A race to save the world from getting into a war. Save Vic. They have it all planed out. Until, Sara did it again. CLIFFHANGER hit again!!

"I trust no one," Shadus snarls. "Least of all her. I merely wanted to expose her to the truth of our culture. That's what this school is for, isn't it?"

I feel like Sara likes doing this to me!! I'm going to start preparing myself from now on. I can not wait for the next book. Sara did such a excellent job with this one. It's by far her best yet. I loved the whole alien part. Sara went into detail with explaining their world, the language & their beliefs. She really put a lot into the aliens. It was nice to see how the races went from one way in the beginning. And, to watch them evolve was awesome to see!

Every character brought something to the table. Especially how some appeared to be strong on the outside. Yet, on the inside wanted acceptance. Some wanted to truly believe one thing. But, when faced with things. They didn't know what to believe. It was a fantastic read! Thanks again Sara.

"Rules will be broken, yes. We'll have to break many, many rules to prevent the humans from killing us, and the sotho from killing the humans."

I really enjoyed this but I'm now super pissed off that the sequel isn't out. I understand authors start other projects but I literally wouldn't have read this knowing there still wasn't a sequel out. It hurts my bookish heart to end on a cliffhanger like that and not have the next book to read. I tend to wait for all books in a series to be out before I read, however I didn't do that with Bring me their hearts because I fell in love with the book. I guess I should have checked first! I'll read Sara's other series' that I can see are finished but this has annoyed me. ugh

really loved the book and hoped for the second part (as there is written - EVE Chronicles Book 1), but I found out that it is still not published and nobody knows if there will be more books. The book left me thirsty for more, for development of relationships etc. One of the best in this kind of stories. Really hope the Sara Wolf will publish the sequel.

Wht do the main heros often have to be so special? Vic not only is sort of cool girl who accepted an eve organ in order to help her sister, which in my opinion is heroic enough, especially since she initially loaths aliens, but she also has to have zol - some sort of power which can win a war... this fact spoiled the whole book for me and I am certain I won't read a follow up. Anyway, the book wasn't bad and there were some interesting parts.

It was alright, but occasionally I found jumps between scenes to be not particularly well done and the characters seemed to be missing something. Nowhere near as good as Love Me Never (in my opinion)
