Kirsty is an in house model with big aspirations- but when she is found dead D.I. Angela Costello has to investigate.
She looks at the ex boyfriend and flatmate and the in house designer who seems to be more upbeat than he has reason to be. She finds an underworld of prostitution, drugs and theft. Will she find the killer?

An old style detective story.

I won this book on goodreads. It was hard to get into the story and hard to keep your interest. Kristy was trying to make it in the fashion world, she thinks because she is dating the designer she was on her way, then she is found dead and DI Angela is called in to find her. More information on DI would've been nice.

First of all can we just take a moment to appreciate how pretty the cover is?

Okay, now on with the review. I think it's fair to say that when it comes to crime fiction I generally look for two things.

1. Is the case exciting?
and
2. Is the ending a surprise?

If the answer to either of these is no then we have a problem. Of course occasionally you'll have a bit of a snooze-fest of a case in the middle of a series and sometimes you can guess the culprit before the big reveal and it doesn't take away

Crime fiction meets chick lit? As a prolific reader of both genres I was intrigued by the sound of this book, with its glamorous cover and London Fashion Week setting it could appear at first glance to be a book for women, yet men can easily pick it up and enjoy it too. Elizabeth Flynn has written a story that will grip male and female readers, it's one I could see working as a TV series over a couple of episodes. Unfortunately I didn't have time to read Game, Set and Murder (book one) before

I have recently expanded my reading and started to read more crime novels, so when I was asked to take part in the blog tour for Dead Gorgeous I jumped at the chance. Just from the blurb this book sounded so interesting. This is the second in a murder mystery series, however it can be read as a standalone novel. It is the perfect book to get hooked on and feel like you are part of.

Kirsty Manners is an ambitious young woman who longs to be a model, she works for Ivana King, a top fashion house. S

I loved the sound of Dead Gorgeous and along with the brilliant cover, I was very excited to start reading it. It began with a prologue which didn’t make much sense to me originally, though I assumed it would as things came to light in the book, and once the story begins, we’re introduced to several characters, Kirsty, Ian, Sandra, Eleanor, Jenni and Darren, amongst others, none who seemed in the least likeable. I was

I kindly received Dead Gorgeous in exchange of an honest review by the publisher.

I was very excited when I was asked to be part of Elizabeth Flynn's blog tour of Dead Gorgeous. The blurb sounded very promising and the book cover is such an eye catcher. Who could have said no to that? Dead Gorgeous is part of a series. The series started with Game, Set and Murder and Dead Gorgeous is the second book in the series. Both of them can be read as a stand alone no

Elizabeth Flynn in her new book “Dead Gorgeous” Book Two in the A Mystery for D. I. Costello series published by Kregel Publications gives us another thriller with D. I. Angela Costello.

Dead Gorgeous by Elizabeth Flynn is a twisting, British, police procedural that keeps the reader guessing and turning the pages. Set amidst the glitz and glamor of the fashion business in London, it is filled with not so likable characters, both victim and suspects, except for D.I. Angela Costello. Angie is a smart and savvy detective and is determined to get her man.

The very British setting and style of Dead Gorgeous will appeal to those who like a British accent with their mystery. The clues a

I began this book ready to dislike it. After all, I felt the cover and title were a bit trite. Since I had won the book from LibraryThing on the condition I read it and give an honest review, I did make myself start it. What I have discovered is anything but trite! This is a well-written, old-fashioned murder mystery! Ms. Flynn does a wonderful job of drawing the reader into the current case of D.I. Costello. There are several different threads (pardon the pun on the garment industry!) that drew ...more

I'm a girl used to the crime novels of Ms. Agatha Christie and to be honest I haven't expanded much into that theme until Dead Gorgeous.

I got to say that what caught my eye first was the cover. I mean, how pretty is it? But the synopsis didn't do much for me so I started reading this book with no expectations at all. And boy was I surprised!

The prologue sets the scene for something that we don't fully understand until later in the book. I was absolutely hooked by the end of it and it was a stron

In this second novel, Elizabeth Flynn again demonstrates her elegant and fluent writing style as D.I Angela Costello investigates a murder in the world of fashion. I found this story a little more difficult to grasp than Flynn's first novel: the ins and outs of the suspects' machinations with each other were much more complicated. During the first part of the novel, we are introduced to so many people who you cannot really like at all-everyone in this world seems to have at least three sexual pa ...more

D I Angela Costello is called to investigate when Kirsty Manners is found dead in her flat. She is an assistant working for fashion house Ivano King and has aspirations above her abilities. There are plenty of suspects including Ian King - her employer - who has been having a bit of fling with her and her on/off boyfriend tough guy Darren. But is there something more going on behind the scenes? Something which could lead to other crimes? Father Martin - Angela's local Roman Catholic priest, has ...more

DEAD GORGEOUS was not necessarily my cup of tea, but if you like the old, traditional whodunit stylings of Agatha Christie or say, Murder She Wrote, I think you will find this novel entertaining.

Set in the world of fashion, D.I. Angela Costello must find out who killed Kirsty Manners. But the more Angela digs, the more she finds that Kirsty was not just a beautiful and aspiring model, but also a conniving and opportunistic person, with enemies at every turn. Angela and her team must piece togeth

I don't know much about the fashion industry - you'd know that if you met me - so I can't really say if the background to this murder mystery is accurate. But it certainly feels authentic, with a glittering and sometimes toxic mix of money and art and beauty and greed.

Character is also very important to a good novel, and the character's here are well developed. Too many details would cause spoilers, because the plot development relies on the way different characters react to situations at sever

I hadn't read a good old fashioned murder mystery in a while and this certainly whet my appetite. Elizabeth Flynn creates an absorbing read with a likable cast of characters, especially the lead, Detective Inspector Angela Costello. She's a detective with heart, not some jaded PI like we're so often used to. She's methodical, jovial, and hard as tacks; she knows how to get the job done but she doesn't lose herself in the process.

When young aspiring model, Kristy Manners, is found dead Angela fi

I really enjoyed this book!! I wasn't sure what to expect this is a first from this author for me but it had good suspense that kept me turning the page. Set in the drama of the modeling world, a murder might seem like it started from a love triangle but did it? I really wasn't sure where the book was leading and the story seemed to get more and more detailed. I loved the details and Angela Costello is a great character. The story didn't seem over the top just more realistic. There are a lot of ...more

I received an Advance Reader's Copy of this book.

This was an entertaining, easy read. This is the second of the D.I. Costello mysteries, and it didn't matter that I had not read the first one. D.I. Angela Costello is investigating the murder of Kirsty Manners, an ambitious model in the Ivano King fashion house in London. There are plenty of suspects, and Angela plods through the possibilities and red herrings to solve the murder, with the help of her young, able team. I thoroughly enjoyed the bo

I read this book in exchange for honest review. The book starts out at a fashion show for Ivano King. One of the models is waiting to go on first. The end of the prelude is a mini shocker. I also a little confused on Ian King and Ivano King. Wasn't sure if they was the same person or not. The back of the book says Kirsy was in a relationship with Ivano King, but in chapter 1, the author mentions a fling with Ian King.

The book was an average read. The first few chapters did not grab me at all.

This is a good mystery. The writing is good but nothing special. There's no snappy dialog nor memorable sentences. The mystery is good. The author had me wondering to the end which of the many suspects was the murderer. We learn about the fashion industry and modeling, including the darker side. There are no objectionable words nor bloody scenes so those who like cozy mysteries would like this one.

It was a quiet day in the small charity bookshop where I help - so I managed to read this from cover to cover. Again DI Costello has a murder to solve, with a lot of possible suspects, and a number of twists and turns.

Nice to see a little more of her family, and I lie the priest as a character, too.

"Kirsty was trying to make it in the fashion world. As the in-house model for Ivano King and having dated the great designer himself, she believed she was well on her way. But Kirsty is found dead in her flat and it is up to D.I. Angela Costello to find the killer."
I had a hard time getting into this book but once I got the rhythm I was hooked. A great cozy mystery.
