Breaking Creed, about a former marine who trains K-9 dogs in search and rescue operations, who was first introduced in Stranded (Maggie O’Dell Series) is the 1st book in Alex Kava’s new series, Ryder Creed.

The story begins with Creed and his dogs working on a drugs case off the coast of Florida which turns into a children trafficking case when 5 children are discovered hidden in the boat that he was doing the drug search.

Maggie O’Dell is on a case of a body found floating in the Potomac River. S

I keep reading this author's books because I cannot understand why everyone else likes them so much. I want to know what I am missing! It's one of my favourite genres so why do I find them just okay when so many people rave about them?
This one actually started well. I like Ryder and Grace but then Maggie appeared and started worrying about everything and I started skimming. Then the last quarter became really exciting and I got involved again and read straight through to the end.

I just need to say upfront that I have been a fan of Alex Kava for quite some time. I don't even remember how many years it has been since I first pick up a Maggie O'Dell book but it was very early on. Every time a new book is released in the series I have been eager to get my hands on it. I have enjoyed some books better than others. When I saw that there was going to be a new series from this author, I knew t

Riveting! Absolutely Riveting! Read this book in one sitting! Could NOT put it down! When I came up for air, I found I was literally riveted to my chair and my jaw was sore from clenching my teeth! Highly recommended for anyone, whether you like tales (tails) that include K-9 partners or not!

SO... what makes your skin crawl? Being tied up and staked to the ground over a fire ant hill? Being dropped into an underground room filled with poisonous scorpions? How about trapped in a car with the most venomous snakes known to mankind? And spiders ... big, hairy spiders?

That's what you get in this book and a whole lot more. For those who have followed Alex Kava's Maggie O'Dell series, you will not be disappointed in this book. Although a start to a new series, Maggie plays a very importan

Ryder Creed is an ex-marine now running a K9 dog business where he trains mostly unwanted dogs as sniffer dogs for anything from drugs to cadavers. His most famous dog, Grace, is a little Jack Russell who has helped break many cases with him. In this case Creed and Grace get mixed up with some very nasty people indeed. Also some very nasty creatures - fire ants, poisonous spiders and snakes, scorpions and giant cockroaches. Ugh!

I really enjoyed the interaction of Ryder with his dogs and the det

This thriller is a real page-turner. I found I read it quickly, as it was hard to put down.

This book is marketed as the first volume in a new series by Alex Kava featuring canine expert Ryder Creed. At a fairly early stage I realised that Creed is not a new character, but one who must have appeared in earlier books featuring Kava’s key personality, the redoubtable Maggie O’Dell. He’s somewhat of a romantic interest from her past, and this new series is obviously a spin-off. Although this book is

Alex Kava is also known for her series "Maggie O'Dell" where she is a criminal profiles. I've only read 2 in that series- and I do enjoy it- ready to read more.

This is the first in this series where Ryder Creed is a spin off- normally I read books in order- but I just happen to love dogs , and this series is about an ex-marine , who is a dog trainer and helps law enforcement along the way-

I really enjoyed this book and series (I love dogs , our military and our law enforcement agencies so I knew

“Breaking Creed” is the first book in a new series about dog handler Ryder Creed by Alex Kava, best known for her series featuring FBI agent Maggie O’Dell. I haven’t read any of those books but I suspect those who have may recognize Creed as O’Dell appears in his book and they appear to have some history together.

Creed’s adventure is an entertaining thriller, especially for those with a soft spot for dogs. I was intrigued by her description of how search dogs work. It was apparent that Kava lov

A delightful easy style read. Baddies and beasties abound, a reluctant yet resourceful male lead (former marine now sniffer dog handler Ryder Creed) and the feisty FBI profiler Maggie O'Dell take on a Colombian drug cartel and their sinister assassin the Iceman, helped by military veterans. Creed is driven by the disappearance of his sister years before, at a truck stop.

The pace was gripping, with scenes intertwined, and helpful day/ date inserts to keep the reader on track.

It has been a long time since I have read a book by this author. I was lucky enough to score an early copy of this book. It was even better than I would have thought. I could not stop reading this book. I finished it over the weekend. Both Ryder and Maggie's storylines were equally strong. Sometimes when there are dueling storylines, one side is not as strong. The way that they both combined than was nice. It fit like a missing piece of a puzzle. Plus all of the other characters in the story hel ...more

I enjoyed this book, not sure why the series has a name change because both main characters share center stage throughout. Maggie Odell plays a major part in this book and so does Ryder Creed and who could forget the lovable Jack Russell named Gracie!

2 stories merging into one from human mules to human trafficking, a bit of angst tossed in, and a wrong cop all make for my kind of book.

4.5 stars and 2 thumbs up!

4.5 stars for this one. It was sooo good. I've read and enjoyed all of Kava's Maggie O'Dell books but this was my first from the spin-off Ryder Creed series. If this first book is anything to go by, I'll be loving all of those books too.

Ryder Creed ex-marine and all round tough guy (of course) is a dog trainer and handler. They have been finding some major drug stashes but the search of a fishing vessel turns up something different - human cargo. Creed also helps one of the drug cartel's courier

I have been a Maggie O'Dell fan since I found Alex Kava's books several years ago, but now it looks like I'll have to branch out. It's hard to resist a handsome ex-Marine that rescues and trains neglected animals. I look forward to many more Ryder Creed books!

I loved Ryder Creed when he was introduced in the previous book and my opinion didn't change with this one. I also love this dogs, especially little Grace. When he's called to help on a drug case, he and Grace have to take a helicopter ride out to a fishing vessel they suspect is carrying heroin. What they find beneath the floorboards has them stunned. Five children of various ages, all afraid, all obviously having been kidnapped and being trafficked. Shaken up more than he wants to admit, Ryder ...more

Good and bad..

OMG! Did we have to go through the revolting, disgusting, gross, description of the floater that was found in the river? I just kept swiping the pages of my iPad to get away from it and the description kept showing up. If you have a weak stomach you won’t like that part. You might want to skip the first few pages of chapter 11.

As interesting as this story was I don’t think I could read anything else by this author. Spiders, scorpions, poisonous snakes, fire ants and cockroaches. No

I was so excited when I discovered I had been accepted to read this book. I had read the first one, Stranded and loved the story about Ryder Creed and his dogs. And it did not disappoint!

I will say, the story started off a little slow and kind of jumped around, but then there were a bunch of characters that had to be introduced. So just keep that in mind because when the story starts unfolding you will definitely be on a ride! With Maggie in Virginia and Ryder in Florida, you wonder what in the

An interesting mash up of multiple genres: mystery, serial killers, drug syndicates, rescue dogs, returning war vets and PTSD, turf wars between local and federal law enforcement and mild, very mild romance. The search dogs make the book seem more appealing than it might otherwise appear; many of those genres do not generally appeal to me at all.
There is a story or two within all of that and a pay-off at the end that is nicely surprising. There is more torture that seemed gratuitous and more sof

I liked Ryder Creed and his little rescue dog Grace. I am familiar with an equally high energy jack russel terrier and can understand how great that breed could be as a cadaver or drug sniffing
pooch. Creed is macho but not an alpha a$$hat which is refreshing for me.

I'm getting a little tired of Maggie's FBI boss. Time for a change there.

I will be curious to see if this will be a Ryder Creed series with O'Dell making only brief appearances or if the two investigators will strike up the hinted at

TRIGGER WARNING: PHOBIAS: Spiders, scorpions, snakes.

Because I hadn't seen a trigger warning on/in the book (and it included an Author's Note at the start, so I consider that ample opportunity to put in a trigger warning), I was unexpectedly triggered, which had a bad effect on me. Thus it also affected my enjoyment of the book.

The rest of the book is pretty good, though.

In Alex Kava's Breaking Creed, the first installment of the Ryder Creed Thriller series, this new thriller series with captivate you and excite you at the same time. Ryder Creed is a former Marine and runs his own K-9 rescue dog operation with his partner Hannah Washington. It all started with a mission to sniff out drugs on a boat. But they've gotten more than they've bargained for.... rescuing children. And that had put him in a most delicate imposition. For FBI Maggie O'Dell, she was assigned ...more

Yay! This is going to be another great series starring characters I enjoy and going after the bad guys who done us wrong.

Sometimes, as I'm reading all my thrillers and the good guys, though flawed, are so good and things generally turn out for the best, that if that were in fact true, this world would be a much, much, much better place than it is. Tom Clancy's Jack Ryan would be President, Mitch Rapp and Dewey Andreas would have the CIA covered, James Rollins' Sigma Force would take care of cat

Stumbled across this book at the library to find out it is #1 in a series which I DEFINITELY will be reading more of. How did I miss this talented authors treasure before? This book was so easy to read and enjoyed how the characters were so easy to imagine. Having dogs as part of the main characters was an interesting story line. Not sad at all but happy to see them thrive under owner handler Creed.

I have never read any of Alex Kava's books but I'm now a fan. Ryder Creed is a fascinating man with many layers yet to be revealed. His canine training and use of the dogs are amazing. What is terrifying is the enemy's choice of weapons - by in large, creepy crawlies! A page turner that entranced me.

Good book starting off what I expect will be a good series. Happy to go to be early to read it. Characters are well-fleshed, plot is good (far-fetched, but good) and there is the added bonus of dogs who have personality galore but are not particularly anthropomorphised.
