Most of us walk through life buying what we have been brainwashed to buy, not even thinking about it. The thing is, when a company is going to be making money off of you it is very imperative that you do your research. Not only can it be harming the environment but it can be very toxic for your own body. Some of the things we don't question: shampoo, conditioner, body wash, make up, supplements, medications, convenience foods, GMOS, pesticides, vaccinations, bedding, clothing, paints, water quality, etc. We are surrounding ourselves with poisons everyday, every second. This book sheds lights on everything we need to be aware of. I skipped through things that I have already researched myself (i've been slowly cutting out toxic things from my life for years) but she also brought up things I wouldn't have even thought about without this book. This isn't about making the reader paranoid and skittish....it's about bringing awareness to the reader so they can slowly begin implementing changes into their life. You can't change everything at once but changes your habits over time can definitely increase your quality of life.
I have been exposed to quite a few of the concepts spoken about in this book and had already taken a few steps to live a cleaner, less toxic life (I'm vegan, I try to use environmentally friendly and low toxic cleaning products, I buy cruelty-free beauty products made from natural ingredients, etc), but it was still eye-opening and gave me a lot of food for thought.
I had a problem with some of the language and the amount of typos. I know a typo shouldn't detract from the content, but personally I find it shows a lack of paying attention to detail and it was quite distracting. Also, the tone was often dramatic and made the content seem a little childish and immature. If you have a powerful message and you believe in the cause (like the author clearly does), there is no need to resort to drama. Again, I found it detracted from the actual content.
I recommend reading this book if you are looking to transition to a less toxic world because it does touch on every area of life, but keep in mind to also research the claims, I found some arguments a bit weak.
