The Art of Praying the Scriptures explains a method for drawing closer to the Lord through meditating on passages of Scripture. It is filled with wisdom (I took lots of notes!). I have been inspired by it to take more time in pondering the Word, and already have felt my spiritual life increasing. I would recommend this book to every believer who is serious about knowing the Lord more deeply.

The reason I have rated the book with four stars instead of five is that the book needs a lot of basic editing. Typos, misspelled words, scrambled words, and dropped letters at the beginning of Scripture passages abound. I was very surprised to find such errors in a book put together by a major ministry. (I read the e-book version at Scribd.com. Some problems may be formatting issues. Perhaps the print version is better, but not all these problems are due to e-book formatting.) I would really like to see John Paul's team go back and clean up the book quite a bit.

This book could change the way you read the Bible and pray for the better

This book is a solid block of information about Lectio Divina. You will learn the history of this way of praying the scriptures and how it has been passed down and discussed over many centuries.

You will learn what the various movements are along the path of Lectio Divina and how you can get the best out of them. At the end of the book are a chapter of scripture verses you can use to practice with.

Eventually you will want to read the whole bible using Lectio Divina, and probably other books like devotionals will come alive.

I have read a number of books on this subject and this one is a definite worthwhile read

Great introduction to praying Scripture

This book is a great description of the ancient discipline of lectio divina. In lectio divina we read a a Bible passage slowly, putting ourselves into the passage and then pray it back to the Lord.

It is easy to read and gives some practical exercises.
