This is was delightful++. My daughter had me and her grandmother read this so often we had to laugh:) She is 18 now but we have kept this as a cherished childhood favourite alongwith Heidi and A Little Princess... Sweet story!
A true story that reads like a feminist Bartholomew and the Oobleck. Except this actually happened, and instead of Dr Seuss' infamous green gack covering half of the kingdom of Didd, this happened in Boston in 1919, and a huge ten million tank fell over and spilled molasses everywhere covering the Boston streets. This fictional account for kids puts a young tale telling girl at the center of the syrupy maelstrom, and saves the town by spreading salt across to melt away the molasses, making her...a FEMALE-STROM!!! A fun read based on a true story that could make for an epic movie. Except the cost for the special effects would make for....yep, a sticky situation. Ha ha. Three stars Kick molasses in the asses!!!
It's funny, having lived in Boston for about 2 years now, I just heard about the event a few days ago. I just noticed this book on the hold shelf at my library. Maybe not the most the comprehensive histories, but a fun read none the less. A very well written kids book, with some honest /lol moments.
