Although I did not enjoy Wanton Wager as much as the Scandalous Wager, it was an okay read nonetheless. Christy Carlyle seems to have the unique ability to make you care about what happens to her characters, even if said characters or the scenarios in which they find themselves in aren’t exactly to your liking. That was the case for me here: I really liked the main couple a lot even though they suffered from a severe case of insta-love, but my interest waned when it came to the shaky ma

I really enjoyed this romance novella, set in 1888 London. Will is a retired army Captain (wounded 8 years previously) who lives with his widowed sister. Ada's family owns a pub in Whitechapel and she is a trainee nurse at a local hospital. Set during the time of The Ripper murders, Beth (Ada's sister) goes missing and this is the story of how our H/h are thrown together by circumstance, whilst they try to discover her whereabouts. There is insta-love as this is short book and some steamy scenes ...more

'Wanton Wager' is the second novella in the Whitechapel Wagers series. Set in Victorian London at the time of the 'Ripper Atrocities' it succinctly conveys the seedier side of nineteenth century Whitechapel and the underlying danger from a serial killer who terrorises its inhabitants.

The wager which Will Selsby reluctantly agrees to and wins leads him to a vibrant, if slightly sordid publi

This is the second novel in the Whitechapel Wagers series and just as good as the first. Will is emotionally and physically scarred from his services in the army but he is an honorable man with a good heart. Unfortunately his first encounter with Ada does not endear him to her. He feels he must rectify the situation and sets out to help her find her missing sister. Ada is a strong character. She is a nurse in training and basically holds her family together despite their adversities. There is a ...more

4.5 Stars!

Wanton Wager is the second book in the Whitechapel Wagers Series, and Ms. Carlyle, once again, takes the reader into the less glamorous elements of Victorian England.

Will, the broken hero, and Ada, the atypical heroine, meet under circumstances that should have doomed their relationship from the get-go. And the encounter almost did, except the two of them keep getting thrust in one another’s path, and neither can deny their attraction for the other.

Interspersed with a perfect blend

Charming Victorian love story! 4.5
WANTON WAGER, is a short and charming novella, written by Christy Carlyle. This is her second story in the series A Whitechapel Wagers. It's the story of two young persons, from different background, who accidentally meet during a mistaken identify exchange. Ada, a gentle soul, working as a nurse at Whitechapel's Samaritan hospital, lives with her mother and her two sisters Beth and Vicky. William, a debauched nobleman and a wounded veteran, accepts a wager to m

Christy Carlyle has a winner here! I liked the setting of the story, in Whitechapel during the time of Jack the Ripper. He doesn't make an appearance, but the fear is there in everyone. Our Hero in this book, is battered and broken from the war, but an unusual wager sends him to Whitechapel late one night. Our lady from Whitechapel is working on becoming a Nurse, and keeping her family strong as they search for their missing sister. There might be love at first sight, but how it could happen is ...more
