The two previous books put the bar way up high, and even though this one was really good it didn't meet my expectations on all accounts. Not sure what was missing (because it was probably a very small piece of the puzzle) but something was. Maybe the, more or less, abrupt end at the beginning? One of the reasons I've loved reading KF Brennes books is because they have been trilogies, so there has always been time for both conflicts and love, and instead of ending the book when the conflict is solved, the reader has been invited to see more of the aftermath than only "and they lived happily ever after". Maybe my issue (however tiny) with this book was just that. After the incident (to not spoil anything for anyone who hasn't yet been able to read it) it feels like a very fast ending. What I would've liked to see more of was probably the happy ending. Maybe the proposal or anything to do with their kids or, better yet, a Christmas with everyone; the kids, their families and the grandfathers fighting about which scotch is best. Just something about how the daily life turned out to be for them.
With that said, I will however once again point out that I do love the book and the dynamic between the couples and their friendship. Like with all of KF Breenes trilogies, the talent of coming up with stories and making it work with adding special ingredients, shines through.
