The second half of Birthright takes all of the setup of the first volume and spins it off in new directions, exploring every member of Mikey's family, drawing his parents and brother in, expanding on his relationship with his wife, and I really enjoyed Boomer, a one-time foe, becoming a member of the extended family.
Setting up a big epic and bringing it to a satisfying conclusion is really tricky, and Williamson and Bressan do an admirable job closing out this series. The twists and turns and reveals all make sense, the final battle is lush and beautiful to look at, and the emotional beats at the end feel earned and deeply satisfying.
