This book starts out with a fish out of water protagonist with a very unpleasant family situation, unpopular at school, friends only with an elderly homeless man who she dreams of escaping on a sail boat with for a summer trip. However, sometimes she sees things she can't explain (auras and visions) and remembers speaking and playing with sprites as a child, before people around her, including her disapproving mother convinced her this was insane.
However, as things get progressively worse at sc

The Borderlands by Aderyn Wood

5 stars. I loved this book and it is a very quick fast read. If you are an avid reader like me, then you will be able to finish this book in one sitting.

This book follows the main character, Dale. I really connected with Dale. She is a young girl just trying to survive high school.

Dale has a strong imagination. From an early age she felt connected to fantastical elements and creatures. In fact, she used to see them. However, her mother convinced her that it was not

A great YA novel about a young girl sent on a long and trying journey to discover what makes her special and that not everything is as it seems.
Enjoyable. Quick. And with a little bit of Rhys, who can go wrong?

Wow

I thought I knew what was going on in the story then that twist. I believe this story as an introduction in the world of the Borderlands is wonderful. I can’t wait to get the next book to learn more. Thank you so much for this wonderful story. To other readers looking for something a bit different yet still within a comfy zone this is it. A little bit of of old time, blended with new tech. A wonderful read, smooth and calm just watch out for that twist.

Dale

This story is about a girl who felt very different from others, for a good reason! This fantasy was written well and it's an interesting adventure for those who feel very different from others, maybe you really are! I liked the story so well that I am on to the next one. I have never read this author but you caught my attention right away, so I will read more.
Thanks for the story

Good characters, flat writing

I was intrigued by the characters. The minor characters were quirky, the main characters original. Plus I love Scotland. I was sure I would love this book but couldn't finish it. I just couldn't warm to the simple, repetitive language that made reading, well, boring. I'm really sorry it didn't work for me.

Borderlands,pic

The Borderlands is the first book in a mystery/fantasy sci-fi series. It is a pleasant mixture of fantasy and magic combined with a coming of age story. The plot contains many twists and turns ending with what the reader would least expect.

Dale is a high school student who experiences many of the problems today’s teens face. She is a bit of a geek, bullied by the “in-crowd” at her private school whom she calls “the plastics.” Her single mother, Victoria, is always trying to impres

The Journey is the first volume of The Borderlands trilogy, told in the first person by Dale, a girl who dislikes almost everything about her life. She finds a release from an unpleasant school and a mother who follows all the fads Dales despises, mucking about in boats with an old homeless man who is more than he seems. A nightmare church party, a surprise encounter in the woods with a tragic outcome, and Dale finds herself decided on running away.
What follows is the journey of this volume’s ti

This was the perfect book for a wet winter's day and a hot cup of tea. It is an intriguing, gentle fantasy adventure that begins in a modern day world, with a strong and determined lead. Dale is a protag that I think a lot of people will identify with. She is not the popular girl at school, she's kind of awkward but has an incredible inner strength, which she is going to need when her day-to-day world gets turned upside down. For me some of the most memorable moments in the book are when Dale is ...more

The Borderlands is Book 1 of a creative and imaginative series. I was swept away from the beginning as the tale unfolds. A young girl, Dalendra, is troubled and is a misfit in her community and within her family. She doesn't look like her three siblings and doesn't fit in with others at school. She feels and sees magical creatures that no one else can see and has a second sight where she can visual others' auras. The powers she possesses can be dangerous to her and others more powerful threaten ...more

When I started this book I was on the fence about if it was a book I would like but that quickly changed. i found myself cheering Dale on as she was bullied and mistreated at home and at school, a fish out of water. The story progresses and we watch her blossom and grow and truly come into who she is finding out she is. A great story of seeking and searching and learning who you are. Sales story extends and includes lots of the paranormal creatures and species. She even has some special help fro ...more

Interesting start to a new world

Characters are easy to identify with and as the story line develops it keeps your interest. At times the plot seems to lose focus but as a whole it lays a foundation for upcoming events. Enough to make me want to read more
