In the mystical realm of the Kallos, darkness looms larger than ever. Sixteen-year-old Alina, now a healer-in-training with the unique power to travel, discovers she is destined for greatness - or destruction.
As war rages and the barrier between worlds weakens, dark forces led by the malevolent Fairy King, Atticus, gather strength. Alina and her training mates - elves, fairies, and other magical beings - must master ancient, lost powers to stop the spreading evil and become the new generation who can together save the realm. Guided by wise mentors and bonded by a powerful connection to her friends, Alina continues her perilous journey filled with love, sacrifice, and hope.
But the lines between friend and foe blur, and Alina struggles with betrayal, forbidden love, and prophecies that foretell a final battle between light and darkness and the reuniting of all realms. Will she rise as a leader and face Atticus in a battle of hearts and magic, or will the darkness consume everything she holds dear?
A spellbinding epic fantasy of courage, adventure, and coming-of-age challenges, A NEW GENERATION is the second book in Karoline Ettinger's The Kallos Trilogy.
“Just finished book 2 of The Kallos Prophecy series, and here’s my take: this installment dives even deeper into the characters, exploring the strength of their friendships and uncovering the hidden powers within them. By now, you’re not just rooting for the main character—you’re cheering for all the teenage students and their mentors as they band together to fight against the looming evil forces. I won’t give away any spoilers, but this book sets the stage perfectly for the final showdown. I’m beyond excited to dive into the last book and see how it all ends!”
As the author, this is by far my favorite book in the series! The characters grow so beautifully in their magic and in their friendships. The mystery and action is strong, and the stakes are high! Cant wait to hear your thoughts!
The friendships in this book are so beautiful and the magic is just incredible. Karoline has created a world so enchanting that I’ve gotten lost and I don’t want to find my way home! I can’t wait for the final book in this trilogy!!!!!
A NEW GENERATION BY KAROLINE ETTINGER A Book Review by Zea Perez April 2026
Thrilling and a wonderful continuation of the series!
In this second instalment a reader is ushered to immerse in the world of Kallos - deep diving into its marvelous landscapes and its magical occupants. Equally significant is the deeper understanding of the conflict and characters: the story about Diya and Atticus; and the intertwining tales of Alina and her friends - the new generation.
Alina's generation is believed to be 'the active witness and participant' of the rupturing realm - where and when the clash of good and evil at this stage is irreconcilable hence the onset of war. Capable adult inhabitants of the realm are called to join the war and the younger ones like Alina and her friends are summoned on training. In the guidance of their mentors, they nurture their powers. They explore the various worlds of each kind, appreciate their culture and heritage and are able to grasp that their powers are rooted from them.
At this stage, as they train, Alina and her friends, young and lacking experience are now aware that only through their collaboration of powers and cooperation- an immense strength could be unleashed that could challenge and defeat a cunning adversary like the camp of Atticus.
During Alina's training and collaboration among her peers, she had known herself better and had understood the intricacies of her relationship with her mom and grandparents. Alina and her friends are able to understand the strengths and weaknesses of each one and among themselves as young individuals - who brave their particular struggles and fears, who anchor themselves from their mentors, loved ones, kin and families; and to forge friendship and sense of belonging. All these have to happen and to prevail amidst the reality and atrocity of war. In this instalment, the power and weakness of Atticus and his minions are exposed and manifested.
Author Karoline writes well, her writing has a heart. It captures the struggles of young adulthood and young romance. It shows the natural dynamics of families and its interrelationships - parents, offspring, and siblings. It highlights the importance of forging friendship-a nurturing aspect of growing up when young adults get to build their own identities, testing their grit of solving problems and challenges as an individual and through cooperation with others; and trying to fit in into a community where they feel they are welcomed, they could express oneself fully and have a place under the sun. The characters are demonstrated to be complex, multi-layered and unfolding as the story and plot progressed.
While reading, I imagine it must be fantastic to illustrate the world of Kallos and sketch the characters of this book- its heroes and villains! I cannot wait to read the next instalment of this series.
Book enthusiasts who love magic and fantasy world and characters, YA romance, family, sibling and friendship tales will absolutely enjoy this series. Highly recommended!
