McDougal Littell was founded in 1969 and initially published supplementary soft-cover textbooks for secondary English teachers. After its first soft-cover books for secondary English, they branched out into additional soft-cover books for secondary Social Studies. Through the years, they expanded their publishing areas to include Mathematics, World Languages and Science, as well as Language Arts and Social Studies.
In 1994, McDougal Littell became part of Houghton Mifflin Company, headquartered in Boston, MA.

The book I had to read every chapter from during US history 1 and 2 from Sophomore and Junior Year...enough said. The only textbook I probably ever had to read as a whole.

A great book of American History in all details....but it makes me sad that many people who profess to "Love America" don't bother reading it now or when they were in school. What grades did our most fervent shouters of "God Bless America!" get in American History class? Our history is so unique, wonderful, and amazing! I think I will start reading it online!

This is the textbook the students have in history class. I've pulled material out of it before or used it to get background knowledge.
