About the author

Susan Chapman is originally from Pennsylvania and lived most of her life outside of Philadelphia in a rural area of Amish country. She grew up on a farm with many different animals and a huge vegetable garden. Susan is one of eight children. Susan attended colleges in Pennsylvania. She has a BA in Economics from Wilkes University, an Associates Degree in Business Administration from the Business School of Widener University, and a Certification in Home Design from Philadelphia University.

After college, Susan met and married her husband, the late Michael Douglas Chapman. Susan and Michael have two beautiful children together, Michael Jr. and Avery Alanna.

Susan now resides in Naples, Florida with her two fur babies, Sugar and Cookie.

I really enjoyed reading this children's book, which is part 1 of the story about a little pelican who is trying to get into the Pelican Squad, His grandfather encourages him to do well and with the energy of his late Dad behind him, he gives it all he has to try to get the place he wants. Grumpy the Iguana and the Green Parrot are both watching in the audience and cheering him on.

The images in the book are fun and quirky and the text is easy to read. I have read nearly all of the Grumpy the Iguana books and have enjoyed them all. Highly recommended!

This is such an adorable little book with a great message and even a cliffhanger! It's a quick read -- perfect for littles with short attention spans and those who are just learning to read on their own. The artwork is vibrant and fun, in a professional and simple tone. It's one of those kids' books your child will be inspired by in a plethora of ways -- from trying to draw their favorite characters to wanting to learn more about positive thinking.

This book is a lesson in friendship, family support, and learning the power of affirmations. While we don't find out in this book if the little pelican finds success, we do see how his close circle works to build him up when he has a bad experience.

You and your child will be itching to read the follow-up book to The Littlest Pelican Part 1 so you can find out what happens. The well-written children's book is easy to read and offers a chance for little learners to look up a few words, but isn't over-the-top when it comes to being age-appropriate for young readers.

Susan Marie Chapman’s THE LITTLEST PELICAN: Part 1 (A Grumpy the Iguana and Green Parrot Adventure) is a delightful start to her series for children, ages 3 to 8. Simply illustrated by Natalia Loseva, the tale imparts presumably a tale of inner strength and overcoming obstacles. The Littlest Pelican is a sweet character who needs friends and has a loving grandfather to guide him. At the end of Part 1, which is a bit of a cliff hanger, one wonders how the grandfather will guide him out of the difficult situation he is in.

So far, the series is endearing and simple to read and understand for small children. It appears to drive home principles such as honesty and hard work, and celebrates the importance of family. I can’t wait to see what happens in Part 2!

This was a lovely sweet story about a young pelican.

In the book the little pelican is trying to follow and chase his dreams but he falls short time and time again. He wants to be just like his grandfather and to join the Pelican Squad.

The relationship between the young pelican and his grandfather is great and I loved seeing this develop. The book ends on a bit of a cliffhanger and I can't wait to see what happens in part 2.

The illustrations in this book are great and they really suit the story.

It is 4 stars from me for this one - highly recommended and can't wait to read part 2

Follow the Littlest Pelican as he takes on the challenge of trying out for the prestigious Pelican Squad.

This book is so vibrant and really grabs your attention. The illustrations really provide depth to the story.

It is a fun story but also carries messages about the importance of family and learning from them as well as rising to the challenge and never giving up.

I know this is going to become one of our new favourites and can’t wait to read part 2.

THE LITTLEST PELICAN PART 1 is a very sweet story. It follows a young pelican who is smaller than all of his peers and is bullied for it. He tries out for the pelican squad and is cheered on by his grandfather as well as his good friends.

The art is very cute and the story, while not finished in part 1, is also very meaningful. The story teaches the lesson that believing in yourself is more important than listening to the criticism of others. Overall a sweet children's book.

Cute story most people can relate to

This is a cute story about dealing with mistakes, trying your best, and how to persevere in the face of adversity.

It can be read to young children or read by young readers. Themes will seem familiar to fans of Rudolph, the Red Nose Reindeer.

Make sure to get part 2 for the conclusion.
