This was the best trade of Skullkickers I have read, thus far.
It was the perfect blend of comedy, action and epic story. I want my own Wartyke (you will see when you read it) the back story that introduces it is like your typical fantasy background story, yet it is told in such a humorous way. The best part of the trade, hands down, was when the narrator from the Flash Back sequence and the narrator from the present story line got into an ultra meta back and forth session, which lasted a few issues. this book is a lot of fun, and makes me want to check out more work that Jim Zub has to offer
The story gets even more hilarious with the addition of a Baldy and Shorty from another dimension. They almost work well together in battles, but are definitely funnier as a group. The giant monsters are back and they brought friends.
This story takes place in Dwayre, where all dwarves come from, including Shorty who is still separated from Baldy and is wanted for hundreds of wrongdoings that earn him a death sentence. While initially Baldy, Kusia the elf and the doubles from another dimension are attacked by dwarves, they end up helping the dwarves defend their city from glacier giants.
There is something heartwarming about the way Rolf's background played into the end of this tale. "Dwarven defender so super strong. Every dwarf in Dwayre knows this catchy song- wartyke, wartyke, wartyke, wartyke!!"
And now for the grand finale. It's going down in the most ridiculously epic battle possible!!! /popcorn/
Another excellent volume. We get to see the team play dueling narrators again, we meet several more incarnations of Baldy and Shorty, and we get some fantastic storytelling through the main plotline and fun Rolf background. Good stuff.
