Have you ever been minding your own business at work and then were stabbed, and started leaking magic?

Willow Jenkins is about to find out that was her best day that week.

Family secrets, old grimoires, dragons in Texas, taco trucks, portals through keyholes, a search for a lost love, and finding out you’re on the most wanted list of an evil empire.

That gets her to Thursday.

Want to see how her weekend went? Get the box wine and Pepsi and pour yourself a kalimotxo and get ready for an epic battle in three parts, a love story, gamers to the rescue, wizards and dark magic, dragons and mayhem in an effort to save Willow's world. Save the alchemist, save the world.

All Willow wants is to go back to her taco truck in East Austin with her dog and hang out at the game shop for magicals behind Pinata World. Is that even possible anymore?

This is a story about being brave even when you think you’re just an ordinary person and finding out one day there’s so much more to the world, and then, being courageous enough to just keep going. I wrote it with all of us in mind who are trying to do the best we can hoping for a little magic.

Martha succeeds again!!

I could go on and on about her character development and her worldbuilding, which are, ALWAYS fabulous, but I actually wanted to show a little different side int his review--her quirky side.

In a world with a ton of new books coming out each week, when you find an author that truly gets it, that makes you jump for your highlighter, that days something so profound or unique that you stop reading and just ponder for a minute--THAT author is worth her weight in gold.  And Martha is that author.

One of my favorite examples is in a dialogue early in the book--look at how much is said (and how even more is unsaid):  "I can't take the weight of things that never get said in this place...(clipped by me) "Sorry, but I want to live in a tiny apartment in a questionable neighborhood with only a bed and two and a half chairs where people say everything they're thinking. Sometimes at the top of their lungs. Sometimes with no pants on, also true. Maybe occasionally not to anyone we can see. But at least there's no holding back. These half sentences make me crazy."

I just love it!  And there are many more.

Also a great story, taking magic in a direction I have never seen before (which is also rare and wonderful)--in a short half sentence,  ", so try it, you will be happy!"

Very Interesting! I Liked It!

This is my first foray into the unknown with Martha Roo. As always, it is difficult coming out of reading a series I love by a revered, best selling author and start a new series. The writing style is new/different, the universe is different, protagonists are unknown… the works.

At first, I wasn’t comfortable with Martha’s style. It felt a little disjointed to me. But once I got it used to it, I couldn’t put this book down! I think I finished it in 2 days! Martha is a force to be reckoned with and I think she may be vying for competition with the likes of K.F. Breene, Patricia Briggs, J.R. Ward & Kim Harrison!

Great job, interesting characters and plot. Looking forward to book #2!

Eamon

It was good, not great. The basic story was well thought out. The explanation for the magic was interesting. Liked Willow and Eamon growing together. My biggest problem was with Willow. I understand her attitude because she was left out of any training. But it’s crisis time now. Get over it and work with your grandfather. He screwed up, he admits it. Now work together. Not crazy about the ending either. The dust hasn’t settled yet, bodies are still missing and it’s done. Will think about book 2.

good

I wasn’t sure if I was going to read this book because when it started, it jumped around so much it was confusing. It finally started to smooth out and come together a bit after the beginning. I really like Willow, she’s definitely a defiant young woman. Since her family tried to protect her so much from magic she doesn’t understand her own magic and she almost gets killed a couple of times. I love the dragons and the other characters in this book. I will definitely be reading the next book in the series.

Worth a chance

Not read this author before so wasn't sure...but definitely worth giving it a try! A little frustrating at the beginning...but once things begin to happen, the logic for the start becomes apparent. Magic, invasive enemies, unexpected friends, dragons...and lots of promise for much more. Minor spoiler....it ends on a cliffhanger!! Best to get the three books or you may be steaming lol. Right, I'm going to dive into the next installment...

Cryptic at first....

I nearly gave up on this book, as I was as much in the dark about what was going on as the MC. But I stuck with it and eventually it all came together. The story is unique and interesting, and the characters are people I want to know more about. Looking forward to the next book in the series.

There's a lot of good stuff in this book, but the prose just didn't flow. There were lots of unnecessary details trying very hard to be clever that just didn't work. It got to be a struggle. Also, I just didn't get the FMC. She gets a familiar, a dragon, but there's three, and then she just leaves it in the country. Would you leave your new dragons alone? Didn't make sense.

Awesome adventures from beginning to end

Great characters and action. Our heroine is epic. Just fun to follow her along and cheer for her, the dragons, family, friends and gamers. A truly whacky fun team to follow. Can’t wait for the next read.

So much happening!

Hooray! Thank you, Martha Carr for bringing this to Kindle!
So much going on, so many new characters and concepts it needs to be read slowly, savored, to digest all the story.
More, please.
