KAT I was born with a monster tucked behind my ribs.
By day, I’m just another cog in the corporate machine, drowning in spreadsheets and feigning interest in baby showers. Pretending to be normal.
But at night, the monster gets to eat. It’s the only thing that keeps me from going completely insane.
Then he came along: Erik. His cold, dead eyes see right through my carefully constructed mask. I hate him on sight. He’s everything I despise: privileged, controlling, a man who thinks he owns the world.
Turns out he’s a killer, too. He wants to harness my rage, to make me his perfect, vicious doll. I should kill him. But every time his hands are on my throat, I feel something other than rage.
I feel … seen.
ERIK My life is a meticulously curated performance.
The only time I feel anything is when I’m killing someone. The control, the finality—everything is clean, precise, and quiet.
Then I saw her: Katherine. She’s a hurricane in human skin with a darkness that calls to mine. A beautiful mess I want to own every broken piece of. Her rage is a wildfire, and I will be the one to master its flames.
But we are not the only predators in this city. A lesser monster is leaving a clumsy trail of bodies, trying to frame us, to draw us out.
You can’t run from your past, Little Monster. And you can’t run from me.
When I’m done, you will have no one left to scream for but me.

I don’t know what I thought I was walking into… I saw “masked killers” and said yes babe bring it the f** on! What I got? A buffet of post-cult trauma, suspiciously casual murder, toxic relationships that deserve to be yeeted off a cliff, not-so-accidental cannibalism, movie nights that would make Netflix issue a restraining order, and enough violence to make my Kindle start twitching.
I was blessed with an ARC of this chaotic, bloody, delicious tale of trauma and survival and I REGRET NOTHING. Rena, this was my first read from you and HOLY STABBY VIBES I am obsessed. The pacing? Immaculate. The vibes? Murderous. The twists? Had me gasping and dry heaving while my partner asked if I was okay (I wasn’t, but the words ‘ humans don’t count towards veganism’ had me lose my s**)
I said “what the ACTUAL f—” more times than I blinked. This book is for my fellow unhinged goblins who want their dark romance with a side of carnage and a dash of insanity.
Tropes - 🩸 Dark Romance 🩸Serial Killers 🩸 Stalker(s) 🩸Morally Black Characters 🩸 Enemies-To-Lovers 🩸Good For Her 🩸 Power Dynamics
This book is unhinged, intense and delicious!! I don’t know what I thought I was getting myself into when I applied for this ARC but my eyes were well and truly opened and I bloody loved it!! Twisted, sexy and addictive!
Kat is a religious cult surviver that left her traumatised as a child. Since taking control of her life she loves nothing more than killing dickheads, masking her true self from those around her, she’s a total baddass. She’s an impulsive and chaotic and I absolutely LOVED her!!
Erik is unapologetically toxic, morally pitch black (a little more so than Kat). Unlike Kat’s impulsiveness he is precise and controlled and likes to degrade his women and exerts control wherever possible. Together they accept each others darkness and embrace it.
Together they are explosive, twisted and their chemistry is electric. I loved that we got the POV from an unknown character which keeps an element of mystery too. I really enjoyed this ARC and will definitely be reading more of Rena’s books she writes Dark Romances brilliantly!!
Mad Love was dark, twisted, and absolutely addictive. This book is the definition of dark romance done right. Unhinged chemistry, a whole lot of vengeance, and the spice? 🔥🔥🔥
Kat and Erik are not your average leads. She’s a chaos-fueled cult survivor with blood on her hands, and he’s a cold, methodical serial killer with rules and rituals. Their dynamic? Electric, explosive, and unapologetically toxic in the best way. I loved how neither character had to hide their darkness around the other; instead, they fed off it. Kat’s impulsiveness mixed with Erik’s precision made every scene between them feel like a ticking time bomb.
One of the standout elements was the POV from the stalker—it added a delicious layer of mystery, and I genuinely didn’t guess the identity until the reveal.
Only reason this isn’t a full 5 stars is because I found myself wanting just a litttttttle more—something extra to push it over the edge. But overall, this was a wild, thrilling ride with two characters you’ll love to fear and fear to love.
If dark desires, explosive chemistry, and a taste for revenge are your thing—Mad Love is the twisted treat you’ve been waiting for.
I was so excited going into Mad Love. I thought I was getting a dark, spicy, masked, unhinged serial killer romance, think Butcher & Blackbird vibes, but even darker. And honestly, it started off strong. We had dual POVs from Kat and Erik, plus an intriguing “unknown” third POV that had me curious.
I do wish Kat and Erik had interacted more earlier on, and that we’d gotten more scenes with the two of them together to deepen their connection. Their relationship didn't have as much of a build-up as I would've liked, but they were still hot.
The “unknown” POV was also fairly easy to guess from the start, character-wise, but their relationship to the main characters was a surprise and threw me. I do wish we had learned more about the unknown person closer to the end! I think there was so much potential here for extra tension and intrigue.
That said, the story kept me engaged and interested throughout. The concept was great, the characters had compelling dynamics, and I’m glad I read it.
⭐️⭐️⭐️/5
Thank you to the author and publisher for providing me with an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
We're not talking your normal stalker dark romance unhinged (works I never thought I'd write), we're talking post-cult, toxic family, toxic relationships, murder for emotional relief, and then some unhinged.
You still with me?
Suffice to say, read your trigger warnings. Because our MCs, Kat and Erik, are full of them. Hell, red flag doesn't cover them (I mean that in the best way possible!). Not to mention, it's a slow burn for Kat and Erik, but together, the sparks are immediate.
And Krowe's writing? Say what you want about the content and trigger warnings, but Krowe can write! The pacing, the twists, the turns, the descriptions. In order for these dark books to work well and be read, you need a writer who can deliver on the writing. Krowe is just that. Phenomenal.
🔪 the obsessive, chilling vibes of 𝘠𝘰𝘶 🩸 “good for her” vengeance ☠️ the brutal chemistry of characters who are truly terrible for each other 🖤 dark romance that doesn’t shy away from the horror
Each book of this series keeps getting more chaotic, bloody, and unhinged and I am here for every moment. Mad Love rotates between three points of view and interlacing plot lines of her, him, and unknown. I love how the throughout the book the identities of the three pov are slowly revealed. The true wild card is unknown, whose sanity begins to unravel and readers are taken on a wild ride. Kat and Erik are polar opposites but when they are together they burn hot and their darknesses are a match. The steam in this book is raw and wild with big emotions, be warned that you may need a fan with all the heat. It was an interesting idea to have more than one unaliver in this book, it really brought interesting dynamics and plot elements to the book. With the exception of Einstein the cat and Willa the work friend, everyone in this book is morally grey. But what's better than a morally gray character? Multiple morally gray characters. Overall this was a page-turner and I hope there is another book in the series.
I’ve read all of Rena’s books so far, I like the slasher vibes she brings to the table. Spot on and enjoyable, a bit gory as well. Mad Love didn’t hit the same for me, Kat and Erik properly met later in the book (48%) and it was in a fast and impromptu manner. The build up, the tension was light. It was indeed a short book, a little short of 300 pages. I would’ve enjoyed ML more if there were more… meat to it. However, I did have a good time regarding the gory parts, especially on the unknown’s pov parts. The feminine rage, the whole vigilante (ish) act that Kat somehow impulsively pulled. Erik just tagging along with her when they get entangled because of territory, yet still being the one empowering her in some way. They make quite the striking pair.
If you enjoy an unhinged couple that doesn’t shy away from their darkest impulses, then Mad Love might be your thing!
Thanks so much to Rena Krowe for the arc!

🌶 Holy hottness!!! This was my first Rena book, and damn can she write some spice!!! This is a dark stalker romance but not exactly in the way they usually are. The MMC isn't the one doing the stalking. I enjoyed this difference, and honestly, I didn't find the actual stocker's identity super obvious. I loved that especially since we got their POV throughout the book. Our 2 MCs, Kat and Eric, aren't like everyone else. They have a darkness within them. One that they don't have to hide when around each other, and they both love the freedom it provides!! Kat is chaos and impulsive, Erik is controlled and calculating. This makes for some very entertaining encounters!! I did find the timeline hard to follow at a couple of points. I had to go back a few pages to make sure I didn't miss something. Other than that, this book was an entertaining ride. I love me a strong FMC, and I ate up Eric's and Kat's dynamic!! Definitely won't be my last Rena book!!
⭐ 4/5 stars 🌶️ 4/5 spice ARC Review | Mad Love by Rena Krowe
This book was unhinged, bloody, and disturbingly romantic in the most twisted way. If you're into serial killer romances with mutual obsession, villain x villain energy, and protagonists who are more into murder than morals? This one's for you.
Told in dual POV, Mad Love is a dark psychological romance where both leads are predators—and they see that darkness in each other. Katherine is a cult survivor turned cold-blooded vigilante. Erik is a mask-wearing corporate prince with a graveyard in the woods and an inheritance on the line. Their slow-burn connection builds through stalking, manipulation, and murder. And when they finally come together? It’s explosive, feral, and soaked in red flags.
The first half dragged a little for me—it's a slow burn (they don't properly get together until around 65-70%). But the tension? Immaculate. And the second half absolutely delivers.
First, I want to thank the author for giving me the opportunity to read an early copy of this book. I absolutely loved the serial killer/slasher vibes. It was definitely right up my alley with that, and I loved that our two main characters were flawed anti-heroes. Not one trying to “save” the other, they saw who they both were and loved their “monsters.” I also loved the stalker part. Very creepy and suspenseful. I do have to say, the reveal was a little bit predictable, BUT I did appreciate the breadcrumbs, because while I did see it coming, had it just been some random person, I wouldn’t have liked the reveal as much.
I did find the subtitle a bit misleading. It’s “a dark stalker romance,” but the one stalking isn’t the MMC or FMC. Also, idk if I’d say this is much of a “romance.” Sure, there’s great spice scenes, but no real relationship between the two besides that and killing people. I guess we could chalk it up to a HFN love story.

Rena really knows how to kill it (pun intended) with her stalker romances. I don’t know exactly what I expected, but it still far exceeded any expectations I had somehow. It’s a dark and brutal world and so much fun to delve back in to. The Madness of Two series has been a wild ride so far, and this book was no exception. I loved Kat's character, and how she fed her desire for destruction by carefully selecting predators. Female rage and retribution for the win! Erik was unhinged. I rarely knew what to expect from him, and honestly, I don't think Kat did either. lol I had my suspicions about who the stalker was, but the depravity that they went to and the depth of the connection was completely unexpected. This series is so addictive, and it feeds into my love of all things dark and horror while also scratching that romance itch. Is it all rainbows and butterflies? Absolutely not but dark romance seldom is and I'm more than okay with that! Can't wait to see what the next book will entail.
Thank you to Rena Krowe for an advanced readers copy of this book!
Mad Love by Rena Krowe is not for the faint of heart, it’s razor edged, morally murky, and utterly addictive. Kat, a fierce survivor clawing her way through life after an early childhood ruled by a cult, finds herself locked in a dangerous dance with Erik, a polished corporate heir by day, a morally black predator lurking in the shadows by night.
What starts as stalking and threats spirals into a twisted enemies to lovers connection where power isn’t just a game it’s the entire currency. The chemistry burns hot, the spice is unapologetically bold, and every interaction crackles with tension that toes the line between love and obsession.
This is toxic love at its most intoxicating—serial unalivers, brutal truths, and dynamics that make you question your own moral compass. If you like your dark romance pitch black, prepare to be hooked.
Wow that was a wild ride. Wheww it was a lot!! 😬😂 if you haven’t heaved my warning on those TWs welll don’t know what else to say. I expected it from Rena I’ve read some of her books and this one’s no different. In a good way I promise. It had me on the edge of my seat also very squeamish at a lot of times because woahh the graphic scenes I could see them. I love how both Erik and Kat hate each other but are literally both serial killers like whattt. Then they end up together. Those two together are so hott and spicy. The twist was very unexpected and I was a little shook. But wow was it pretty demented and twisted and pretty much messed up. And I knew Rena would deliver with that. If you love twisted, spicy with serial killers who fall for each other then this is a must read. Just be careful if you’re eating or even snacking.
Honestly, anything from Rema is gonna be a 10 out of 10 for me. She gives absolutely amazing thriller slasher dark suspense all wrapped in a nice little bow for ya. The hate sex x enemies to partners to Lovers between Erik and Kat are just chef's kiss. The unhinged 2nd MMC def got what he deserved as well. You can't mess w a slightly unstable FMC and not expect the claws to come out ?! Mad Love def was a great addition to this series of horror x dark romance reads. I definitely cannot wait for more from this author. I love every single one so far!!
-Kat: an unhinged morally black FMC who has a dark side that nobody knows about
-Erik: an unhinged morally black MMC who realizes someone is using his burial grounds
-mystery 3rd person from Kat’s past who is obsessed with her, but the most unhinged
My first read with a dark FMC and I loved it! This cat & mouse game between characters was intriguing. The suspense and tension to find out who this mystery person is & want they want keeps you on edge. When Kat & Erik’s demons intertwine, the madness that unfolds is so good.
I loved this! It's Kat & Erik's story & they had one to tell! They both have secrets & they really don't like each other. But someone from her past is watching her & will stop at nothing to have her. He's in an arranged engagement but his fiancée isn't as naive as he thought. There're several things going on in the background here & a lot of things happen. I loved the spice & the story was awesome! Highly recommend this book & author!
Make sure to read the trigger warnings before diving into this book. It is dark, unhinged and delicious. Kat and Erik are perfect for each other. She is an ex-cultist and he’s an unaliver who has his own particular way of doing things. They are chaotic together and I really enjoyed it. I thought it was intriguing reading the stalkers pov and it was great getting their perspective. I definitely wasn’t expecting the reveal of the stalker.
This was as dark and delicious as a deep dish Devil's food cake.
This is unhinged in all the finest ways. Cover to cover tension, madness, and violence. I was on my knees the whole time.
First of all, I am FERAL for a strong and powerful FMC. FERAL. Kat is my girl 110%. Erik is the perfect compliment as an MMC. Those two are the picture of depravity and balance with chemistry that is off the freaking charts.
An absolute gem, 10/10 would definitely recommend.
Enjoyable slasher romance! Although easy to figure out the plot, I was surprised by the “why” of it. I like Kat and Erik but would have loved more push and pull/ enemies to lovers vibes. They hated each other then…didn’t. The cult trauma, the gore, the spice, all chef’s kiss!
