Six of Hearts

Rate this book
Step right up and meet Jay Fields: Illusionist. Mentalist. Trickster.

I think in triangles. You think in straight lines.
I show you a table and make you believe it’s a chair.
Smoke and mirrors, sleight of hand, misdirection. I trick and deceive.
But most of all, I put on a good show.
The world thinks I killed a man, but I didn't. Bear with me. It’s all a part of the plan.
Revenge is what I want. I want it for me and I want it for her.
I want it for all six of us.

She doesn't remember me, but she’s the reason for everything. She’ll be my prize at the end of all this–if I can hold onto my willpower, that is. Maybe I’ll slip up a little, have a taste, just a small one.

So go ahead and pick a card. Come inside and see the show. Look at my hands, look so closely that you can’t see what’s happening while you’re so focused on looking. I’ll be destroying your world from right here in the spotlight.

You’ll never see me coming until it’s too late.

I've only got one heart, and after I've pulled off my grand deception I’ll hand it right to her.

So, sit back, relax, and let my girl tell you our story. You’re in for one hell of a ride.

★★★★ 1/2! Six of Hearts (stand-alone). Illusionist Jason Field’s journey of revenge and retribution with love in the cards!

“He has this magnetic energy that makes me feel anxious and excited all at once.”

Six of Hearts (stand-alone) opens up to illusionist, Jason Fields, Jay appearing at the Brandon Solicitors asking to speak to its attorney, Mr. Brandon, Matilda Brandon, Watson’s father. He is seeking representation in a defamation lawsuit. Her father declines the case, and instead Jay ends up renting a room from them.

What follows next appears to be a friendship and a slow brewing attraction. But don’t forget that Jay is the master of illusions and not al is as it seems. Soon you will find yourself on a masterfully crafted journey of revenge, retribution, trickery, illusions and more… set against the backdrop of their budding romance.

 photo SOHHxBSbysb_zps5f7d97e5.gif

Jason Felds, Jay did his magic on me! He started off as a 4-star hero, but by end of story he had wrapped himself around my heart. Seven words to describe Jason: Charismatic, noble, smart, focused, secretive, elusive, and unwavering.

 photo SOHhexBSbysb_zpsefb0ada2.gif

Just like Jason Matilda Brandon, Watson grew on me. It was my pleasure to be inside her clever head. Seven words to describe Matilda: Reflective, sarcastic, sweet, insecure, forgiving, nurturing and endearingly witty.

Six of Hearts is told from Matilda’s POV, allowing Jason to remain a mystery throughout. But in the end he laid most cards on the table for a grand slam finale and the perfect ending.

Mysterious and engaging plot! Brilliant storytelling! Compelling hero and heroine! Love the book cover! A feel-good read!

Please see more of my reviews at www.bookaddicthaven.com

I put off reading this book, despite the glowing reviews from friends, because magicians/magic just don't really appeal to me. Honestly, the thought of it kind of creeps me out...like clowns or carnies. I don't know why, it just does.

However, my curiosity eventually won out. I decided to listen to the Audible version and see what all the fuss was about. I'm glad that I did.

It seems that all of my creepy magician fears were for nothing. Jason "Jay" Fields was a hunk! Nothing about this guy screamed "creeper". He was sexy, but not in an over-the-top alpha sort of way. As far as heroes go, he was fantastic!

Jay is shopping for an attorney when he runs across Matilda Brandon, aka Watson. She's working in her father's law office when Jay comes in, wanting to hire her father. Her father doesn't take on Jay's case, but does agree to rent him a room in their home. The rest is history.

Jay and Matilda become fast friends. In no time, they are gallivanting around town together like besties. Even though Matilda's insecurities bugged me at times, I didn't think it was too overdone. The sexual tension is thick between these two, as they try to dance around the topic. They're flirty, but keep it innocent for most of the book.

Meanwhile, it becomes clear that there is more to Jay's case than simply a reporter writing slanderous articles about Jay. The details aren't made clear until the very end, but it is obvious that there is a grudge match going on between Jay and this aggressive lady.

This story was far more engaging and suspenseful than I had anticipated. From one scene to the next, I wondered what was happening and what the twist would be. I had a few ideas, but didn't guess the extent of Jay's "secret". When everything finally came to light, a part of me was like "I knew it", while another part was like "I didn't see that coming".

Overall, I thought this was a great story. It was sweet and heartwarming, with enough suspense to keep me guessing. If you're sitting on the fence, like I was, I say give it a shot. It is worth it.

The only problem I encountered was that because I listened to this story at the same time as I was reading Pepper Winters' 'Dollars', I kept mixing up Jay and Elder's pasts. Both were street children and pick-pockets. Both had a mysterious, tragic past that was the downfall of their families and that they blamed themselves for, etc. It was a total fluke, but the similarities made it hard to keep these two straight. Who could've guessed it?

the low quality cover does not accurately represent the high quality content of this story. this magical 'count of monte cristo' inspired story is seriously something i didnt know i needed in my life. this satisfies my desire for both revenge and illusion.

my only complaint would be matildas character. shes so painfully naive, to the point of being unrealistically and annoyingly so. but i loved the story so much that i was able overlook her flaws.

definitely recommend this to anyone looking for a romance story filled with mystery, intrigue, and a little bit of magic.

"Never try to out-trick a trickster."

Six of Hearts is the thrilling, captivating, suspenseful and steamy story of a successful illusionist's epic quest for revenge and true love. The intriguing blurb and the fact that the book was written the author of one of my favorite books of last year, were more than enough motivation for me to dive in to this book the minute it arrived on my Kindle. And once again, L.H Cosway did not disappoint. I immensely enjoyed reading this book and I was sad to reach the ending of Jay and Matilda's extraordinary tale.

If you're going to read this book, it's best not too know too much about the storyline - aside form the blurb - and this dedication at the beginning of the story perfectly sums up the greater meaning behind the story and Jay's need for revenge.
"For the ones whose childhood was stolen.
No matter your age, it's never too late to steal it back.
Believe in the unbelievable, because
this world we live in is magic."

Jay Fields is a 27 year old illusionist / mentalist / trickster extraordinaire whose charismatic and charming as sin character you can't help but fall for and swoon over the minute the walks in to a room (or starts calling you 'Darlin' in that sexy accent of his). He's one of the most complex, unique heros I've come across lately and his lengths he went through to accomplish his quest only

"When I look at you, my head clears. Most times there's a storm up in this brain of mine, but then you walk into a room and I can focus."

Matilda is a very likable heroine as well. She's sassy, sarcastic, has a great sense of humor and is easy to relate to. Her curiosity often led her into trouble but it also made her an exciting character and it made her POV all the more fun to read. I adored the banter between her and Jay and the easygoing friends-to-lovers relationship they built up throughout the story.

"I might tell you that you're mine, but you need to understand that it goes both ways. I belong to you, too."

All in all, Six of Hearts is a love story - and one of epic proportions as well as a mystery type of read that will keep you guessing until the very end. It's one of the most refreshing reads I've read lately and one that will definitely stay with me for a long time. L.H. Cosway never ceases to amaze me with her knack for originality and her fluent way of storytelling that keeps you glued to the pages throughout the entire book.

If you're looking for a unique, surprising, epically romantic read, I would highly recommend giving this one a try!

"So why not live with the magic? Be a kid again and believe in the fantastical. Life is more fun with a little smoke and mirrors."

Wow!!! Watching illusionist, Jay Fields, attempt to pull off his ultimate plan of revenge had me anxiously excited as I flipped pages until I came to the very last page. I loved this epic quest for love.

Meet Jay Fields: Illusionist. Mentalist. Trickster.

description

The dedication set the tone of Six of Hearts.
For the ones whose childhood was stolen.
No matter your age, it's never too late to steal it back.
Believe in the unbelievable, because this world we live in is magic.
I've been a fan of L.H. Cosway since I read Painted Faces. That book was one of my favorites of 2013. Ms. Cosway writes outside the 'norm' for romance books. She has a gift for writing stories about flawed characters who lead the most interesting lives.

In Six of Hearts a lot happens and it's best to discover it within the pages of the book instead of reading it in someones review.
"Isn't it more exciting not knowing, just letting the possibilities be endless?

So why not live with the magic? Be a kid again and believe in the fantastical. Life is more fun with a little smoke and mirrors."
If you still aren't convinced then take a look at the blurb for this book because it's one of the MOST INTRIGUING blurbs I've ever read.

"Never try to out-trick a trickster."

description

Jason Fields: Illusionist, Mentalist and Trickster, is in the road for revenge. He has every intention of revenging his family and his past. Matilda is a simple girl, a clothes designer who wants an epic love, like in the movies and in the books.
When they end up living under the same roof and they begin to know each other what they didn’t expect starts to happen and they being to fall for each other. But the thing about illusion is that you can’t never know if what you’re seeing is true. Can Jay get his revenge and the girl… or some things are so improbable to achieve that only magic could to the trick?

This book has been sitting on my kindle for ages (one of those one-clicking sprees), but for some reason I never decided to read it. Now that I’ve finished all I think is: ”Why in the hell didn’t I read this earlier??!”
I loved how this book went a little out of the norm and introduced a rather unconventional hero. It only made the reading so much more appealing. I loved the “slow burn” romance, but I’ve got to confess that there was a moment where I’ve become impatient and needed things to speed up a little. That’s my only (tiny) complain about this book.
This was a steamy and romantic book, with a plot that kept me on my toes until the very end and very well written. If you like whimsical and captivating books that goes a little out of the norm, and if you like good romance stories, this book has the best of both worlds. Go grab it.

Characters Development: I loved, LOVED Jason. I loved how he was sexy and mysterious with a slightly “dark” side, but at the same time he was absolutely caring and sweet. How not to love him? Matilda was also very easy to like. She was sweet, she wasn’t wnhy (and that’s always a plus) and she had her sassy moments. I liked her. Jessie, Michele, Matilda’s dad… his book had a lot of great supporting characters. Onto the next one, now!

I must say I really enjoyed this one. Of course, being Irish, I had my hackles up ready to criticize if it was not done right. It was. It was done perectly well… Irish authors out there and also non-Irish authors who write about Irish characters “Take Note”! We are normal, we speak with ordinary voices, we may use bad language, but not all the fecking time.

This is fucked up. This is … amazing.

There is an Irish illusionist, Keith Barry, who I have seen on RTÉ on many occasions. I wonder if the author sort of based her hero on him.

I did sort of get the “link” early on...

So why not live with the magic?

I loved both main characters, also the secondary characters.

“Note to self: Never try to out-trick a trickster.”

I had a sappy grin on my face when I finished reading this one.

His purpose was gone now

I loved that Matilda was an ordinary girl, working an ordinary job - used to be a Legal Secretary myself back in the day.

”I was up all night working on the O’Connell case.”

Hey, if my surname gets a mention in a book, it is bound to be good!! It’s the little things.

"Why not live with the magic? Be a kid again and believe in the fantastical. Life is more fun with a little smoke and mirrors."

My Matilda and Jay:

Wow. Talk about being creative and innovative. The stuff L.H. Cosway comes up with in her novels is downright brilliant. Her characters and their lives are always so unique and colorful that I can guarantee you that you haven’t read anything similar before. And Six of Hearts definitely proves that.

"Never try to out-trick a trickster."

This is a story about true magic of life and possibility of finding your very own epic love. This is a story about stolen childhood and getting your revenge. Six of Hearts is a book that will absorb you with its electric and all-consuming atmosphere. You need to know nothing more about this novel. Just read the blurb (which serves as great intro) and dive into the book so you can experience this amazing story yourself!

I absolutely adored the friendly-entertaining "voice" of narrator in this book. Matilda is an ordinary girl, with her fair share of insecurities, adventurous and curious spirit, plenty of romantic ideals and the most funniest and sarcastic inner dialogue ever. She is exactly a girl for my liking and a kind of girl I would love to have for a friend. L.H. Cosway is a master in creating the best and most lovable female characters.

"Better to disillusion the illusionist from the get-go."

L.H. Cosway also writes the most unique and swoonworthy male characters ever. Jay Fields is no exception. Charming but cheeky illusionist, mysterious and intimidating man, intriguing in his own special way. It took me a long time to truly figure him out and I absolutely love when author is able to keep me on my toes when it comes to characters.

I enjoyed this book immensely and I already cannot wait to see with what will L.H. Cosway come up next. Her contemporary romances always tend to surprise me and I am left completely mesmerized after finishing them. So do not hesitate to pick this book up as soon as possible!

LH Cosway has just been added to my favorite authors list! She can write some pretty amazing stories. I know this might not make sense but with her books I have come to expect certain things but always get the unexpected. I love that. Her characters are endearing and the plots are always so alluring.

I did read a few reviews before starting this one and thankfully they were spoiler free because in my opinion the less know about Jay (Jason) and Matilda the better you are.

In Six of Hearts, there were so many moments that just melted my heart. I’d love to say they were all moments that Jay created but I have to say Matilda was freakin amazing. I loved the way she blindly opened her heart up to Jay.

Jay ~ I LOVED him! He was sweet, sexy, intriguing and a bit of a bad boy. He was perfect.

 photo a6783f3604748a531f6c25cff084a0ba_zpsbd647771.jpg

Matilda ~ I adored the simplicity of her. She was an ordinary girl with pure beauty. A girl who dreamed of finding that EPIC love.

 photo d7c795fe-259c-48f6-a556-340b635679c2_zpsefdf7985.jpg

Revenge is an odd thing. Generally nothing good comes from it but for some there is no alternative. Jay has been patient. He needs to do this. His plan is put in motion. The illusions, the tricks, what is real and what isn’t. Will it be worth it?

 photo a05b73c3efc56d869ec2d5126999d1d8_zps15a069b8.jpg

The romance between Jay and Matilda was full of passion. Not just in the physical sense but in an emotional sense as well. I ached for them. They craved each other but had to resist this craving.

 photo 83286c22-dd3d-413b-8db3-ebdf976906eb_zpsc5138de3.jpg

This story was such a treat. Jay and Matilda were lovely. I loved the all the ordinary moments they shared. The sexy moments were great too. ;) I thought Michelle and Jessie added a bit of a sass and flare.

 photo withyouiamhome_zpsa02791c2.jpg

This is an ABSOLUTE must read. If you have it on you TBR then read it now…soon….just read it. If you don’t have it on your TBR you need to add it. It really is that amazing.

Title: Six of Hearts
Series: Standalone
Author: L H Cosway
Release Date: July 26, 2014
Rating: 5 + + stars
Cliffhanger:. No
HEA:

☆ 5 MAGICAL STARS ☆

Jay Fields. Mysterious man that will completely sweep you of your feet. Steal your heart and soul. Make you his. Make you believe real magic exist. He’s illusionist. Trickster. Mentalist. He’s a man who creates magic and throws the whole world upside down. There is no such a word as impossible in his vocabulary. And he’s the one that made Matilda completely, utterly, totally in love with him.

“We both know that mystery is better than truth. So why not live with the magic?"

I’m still amazed by this story, it was perfect, so wonderfully good, so so fantastic! Ah, Six of Hearts is definitely novel worth gushing about and I will absolutely pour in this review all of my still fangirling heart. In the book world full of the old same and boring trends, L. H Cosway created absolutely unique, dazzlingly epic romance that not only did blown me away but stole my whole heart.

The impressive romance between Matilda and Jay is not usual ‘boy meets girl – they fall in love and have their happily ever after’ book. Nope. This story is SUSPENSFUL and SEXY. As well as refreshing and full of surprises read, that doesn’t get boring even for a half of a minute.

It’s a wonderful mix of passion and intensity. Not only the reader is invested in what’s happening between two main characters, but is also craving to know how Jay will seek out his revenge; what’s really going on in the mind of his?

“When I look at you, my head clears. Most times there’s a storm up in this brain of mine, but then you walk into a room and I can focus.”

From the beginning till the end the author managed to give me a new additional piece of soul and pair of wings to fly. I should have expected that, as I know other Cosway’s work, and she always made me feel so much, yet a memory of how good of an author she is, is nothing in comparison to actually sensing it again. What’s more, I just feel like I have to screaming the top of my lungs that I loved everything that was part of this novel, and that rarely happens these days.

“His lips descend on my lips, hard and frenzied, and I can feel every ounce of his passion. I moan into the kiss, his tongue sliding into my mouth with intent, caressing mine, claiming me.”

So strong, so powerful and so passionate – Six of Hearts is not your average, typical romance story. It is thrilling, fast paced story about love and revenge. It’s intense, remarkable and absolutely captivating. From the plot like no other to the beautiful, complex characters, this book is out-and-out perfection.

Six of hearts is a beautiful love story spanning from 1998 to the present day. It's a story about REVENGE and so much more.

23 year old Matilda doesn't have a great history with men, anything more than friends doesn’t seem to work out for her. She’s scarred, both physically and emotionally, from a viscous attack, but despite her history and physical insecurities, she has an incredibly positive outlook. She’s strong, determined to succeed in all areas of her life, and Matilda is a lady who affects our hero, Jay, like no one else.

Illusionist Jay is a little older. He ends up living with Matilda and her dad. His plan is to persuade Matilda’s lawyer father to take on a lawsuit for him. He’s confident and charismatic with oodles of sex appeal. He’s a smooth talker, a showman, and says the most gorgeous things to Matilda.

He never gives too much away.
His main focus is revenge.

It’s a well thought out, clever story that’s well paced throughout. The characters have complete motivation, I believed in everything they did.

I have to admit, I’m not a fan of magic/illusions, per-say, no matter how fantastical it is, but this mattered NOT when reading Six of Hearts. It wowed me.

I love and appreciate the way this author puts her characters in unusual scenarios. L.H.Cosway takes the ordinary and combines it with the extraordinary which makes for a super interesting, often unique, reading experience. She writes extremely pretty and emotive sentences that give the story beauty and meaning.

I loved seeing the hero and heroine interact and enjoyed the developments of their relationship, and revelations as they occurred. The back story was so engaging and gave so much depth and power to the story.

There’s an air of mystery and intrigue, I had an inkling of some things but, in no way could I fully work-out everything, it kept me guessing and wondering until the end. I loved it.

This book made me smile and moved my emotions to full force. My heart was bursting by the end. Just lovely. If you enjoy a standalone book that captivates and engages you from beginning to end, with a story that’s special, unique, sexy and romantic then grab your copy of Six of Hearts and enjoy.

When I find an author I connect with, I do a happy dance whenever they publish a book. When the teaser and idea of said book is thought-provoking, intriguing and makes me wonder about it long after I have read it...all the better. When you combine these two factors together and add the name L.H. Cosway...you will find me dropping whatever I am doing and making arrangements to disappear until the reading of this book is complete.

This is a gem.
This will take you to place where you get to watch everything happen, know primarily what the main events of the circumstances are, think you have figured out the outcome and still get taken for a ride. It is done with finesse, heart, some pain and a lovely dash of romance.

As I already said, L.H. Cosway is a favorite of mine... the intelligence and heart in the books get me every time.

Read the blurb... everything is there... laid out for all to see... now it is up to you to make your move, quick before it disappears...

Mesmerizingly brilliant! It’ll engage you from the start and entertain you until the very end. It's original, magical and riveting, tragic and heartwarming, fun and sexy. L.H. Cosway’s topics and writing style practically leap out and off the page.

This story centers on a boy whose innocence was fractured by abuse and then completely stolen by violence but grows up to be a man with hope, justice and vengeance within his grasp, albeit in a very misdirecting kind of way. It’s also about romance and wanting to recapture a lost childhood through happy surprises and astonishing illusions.
“Deep down he’s just a big kid who thrives on mischievous pranks and coming up with elaborate ways to surprise people”

I’ve been trying to figure out a way to write this review without giving much or anything away. I feel like I’ve given out too much already.

By the book’s provocative blurb we know Jay has an end game for love and revenge. But all is not what it seems and how this plan came about will be slowly revealed and only until the end will we be able to put all the puzzle pieces in place. But from now until then L.H. Cosway creates a wonderful tale that will amaze you with the way she describes each trick, endear you to the loveable characters and keep you spellbound with the plot’s intrigue.

Jay is a self-assured trickster that oozes sexiness, he’s charming, charismatic and caring. With the shows he gives we know he’s this amazing performer but mostly he’s an incredible thinker. A student of behavioral science, he is patient, cunning, methodic and determined, you know the ending will be awesome.
“The biggest surprise, though, is still to come... I like to think of it as Jay’s prestige. His big finish.”

Even with her self-doubts and social awkwardness, Matilda is this smart, snarky and amusing woman, both outside and inside.
“What? I said my inner dialogue was a bitch”

She’s a “hopeless romantic” who wants to find “epic love” but is constantly afraid of taking chances so even though there’s an instant and intense attraction between her and Jay, she puts it off treating him as a friend which enables Matilda to be herself around him, which is frequently hilarious.
“I think you could probably say, ‘I’ll be Burger King and you be McDonalds. I’ll have it my way and you’ll be lovin’ it,’ and you’d probably still score.” ~ Matilda to Jay

I loved their banter. The way they tease each other is fun, flirty and witty. The instant chemistry that only builds in anticipation was torturous. They seem to be like two magnets aligned at the wrong ends, sometimes touching but not being able to come together until correctly aligned. And when they do it’s achingly sweet and swoony.
“I want to romance you, Watson.”

As the story drew closer to the end, I felt myself wanting to read slower, loving it so much and just not wanting to let it go. I wanted to keep living with the magic.
“Be a kid again and believe in the fantastical. Life is more fun with a little smoke and mirrors.”

Her contemporary romances are precisely that: new and ingenious. I can’t wait to read L.H. Cosway’s next book. But from now until then, I’ll re-read this one. I urge you to get it. You won’t be disappointed.

i've never had an illusionist on my list of book boyfriends before. congratulations, jason fields! you just won the spot. feel free to use me in one of your magic tricks. but please dont lock me inside a coffin and bury me alive bcs im claustrophobic. anyway, this book is an oldie but goodie.

how many of you have read an illusionist romance before? i bet none or so very of you have. i feel like i've just discovered a hidden gem. this was so good. teetering on the edge of dark with its reveng plot. but overall it was so sweet and a lot of fun. the humor, the banter, the writing was definitely chefs kiss.

awed by all of the magic tricks. jays smart mouth was the highlight of my day. i even loved his hot and cold attitude. adored matilda though she was kinda naive. and isnt matilda a grandmas name? i always have high opinions towards anyone who knows their way around fashion. matildas dressmaking skills is one i'd love to acquire myself.

ps. massive thanks to jessica for i wouldnt have known this book existed were it not for the review she posted. my only regret would be not reading it on audio bcs im now constantly daydreaming about jays irish american accent.

When the world thinks he killed someone, Jay is only looking for one thing, revenge. Yet how does Matilda play a part in his plan?

Jay Fields is exactly MY type of book boyfriend. He was cheeky (cheesy grin), sexy (obviously) and sweet (swoon). I really liked Matilda, her sense of humour was so funny. She was an innocent type heroine but I found it so cute.

I love the writing. I love the main characters. I love that the story is something different. The sexual tension was killing me slowly but I loved it. Love love love!!!

Thank you for all the lovely ladies who joined the BR. Mwahh!! I think there was more ogling watching videos than actual reading :) #youknowwhoyouare haha

Jay Fields: Illusionist. Mentalist. Trickster appears into Matilda and her father’s predictable lives and brings a court case of the century to their law firm while wooing their hearts. Is it all an illusion? A brilliantly plotted plan? After all…

”The maybes could go on forever, Watson, but we both know that mystery is better than truth. So why not live with the magic?"

L. H. Cosway did an excellent job telling this story as well as perfectly weaving all the mystery together to create a truly entertaining story. I only wish we had Jay’s pov at some point in the story. Matilda and Jay were wonderful characters and their interactions went from friendship with great humor to steamy hot love which was in fact all that Matilda dreamed of.

”I want epic love, like you see in the movies. I want it so desperately that it fills my heart when I like about the possibilities of ever losing it.”

Jay has secrets which he doesn’t plan on revealing till the end of his court case and at times he does friend zone our quirky Matilda. However, a reader never doubts his attraction or feelings for his Watson. The couple’s interactions for the first portion of the book left me chanting ‘just jump him already’ because Jay was a super sexy character. The secondary characters were just as skillfully written. The clever conclusion (even though a reader knows some connections from the prologue) is a sure crowd pleaser!

4.5 what a sweet book STARS

“We both know that mystery is better than the truth. So why not live with the magic? Be a kid again and believe in the fantastical. Life is more fun with a little smoke and mirrors.”

I have to confess, this was nothing like I had expected. I knew from reading The Hooker and the Hermit that I love Ms. Cosway's writing and I knew that literally every one of my GR friends who read it loved this book. So it came to me as a bit of a shock that I found myself slightly bored for a good portion of this read.

Don't get me wrong, I fell in love with the characters instantly and the story was really cute, but I had the constant feeling that something was missing. I was honestly a little baffled why everyone is so head over heels in love with this book. But then the last 20% happened and Ms. Cosway actually pulled the rabbit out of the hat. The conclusion was truly amazing and I can actually see the appeal now, it just took me a while to get there.

As a whole Six of Hearts was a very enjoyable read and I would recommend it to anyone who loves new adult and is in need for a really sweet and heart warming love story with a magical twist. I would just stress that it is a slow built, and when I say slow I mean snail pace. But once you pass the finish line I promise you are left with a more than satisfied feeling.

“I’m really looking forward to being alone with him. What? I own a vagina and he’s Jay Fields; therefore, I’m allowed to be excited, even if nothing's going to happen.”

Jay Fields is an illusionist, a mentalist and a trickster. He was born in Ireland, but grew up in America after his family was killed. After living and working in Las Vegas he is back home in Ireland to film a tv show. Something went supposedly wrong with one of his last tricks and a ruthless journalist uses the event to write an article about him that screams defamation.

Jay comes to Brandon Solicitors in search of legal help to sue the journalist and leaves with a new place to stay instead.

Matilda Brandon and her Dad are quite the odd couple. He is a workaholic solicitor and she is his secretary/office manager and dress designer by night. After a burglary many years ago that ended with death of her mother and a scarred Matilda the two rely on each other and take care of each other.

But putting Jay in the mix as a room-mate sure makes for interesting dinner conversations. He not only rents their spare room, but promptly inserts himself into the family and especially Matilda's life.

“You know what, Jay, I can't wait to see you turn into a tornado. I think you might have it in you to surprise us all.”

Jayson is a mysterious guy with an interesting history that is only hinted at. Naturally, my suspicious mind told me from the start it's not a coincidence that he ends up with Matilda and her Dad, but there are very little bread crump along the way that confirm my suspicion...I think that is what bugged me the most. I was missing a sense of direction. I guessed the outcome and his presence there, but mehhhh...

If it's all random and coincidence, well then the whole thing is boring and if there is purpose behind Jay's actions -and let's be honest it usually is- I would have liked some more hints to keep me interested. Of course I know now which way the story goes, but what I'm trying to say in the most vague way possible is that the execution might have been better, or less slow...maybe? I'm probably not making any sense now...anyway. In hindsight I think a dual POV would have done wonders.

I really like Matilda and being in her mind is rather amusing and a heroine who loves Fleetwood Mac can do no wrong in my mind. She is very insecure and shy, and I loved seeing Jay bring out the best in her. The only thing that I would complain about about is her lack of questioning Jay's sudden appearance and his foray into their lives.

“The epic love I’ve always wanted was with me all along, and it’s nothing like what I imagined. It’s better, because it’s real. It’s not perfect or pretty. It’s full of mistakes and sacrifices, and sometimes even ugliness.”

I guess I was missing some real conflict. The development of Jay and Matilda's friendship was incredibly beautiful, but also very predictable. The pacing only picks up around 70% and that's a little late in my opinion. But on the other hand the last part completely won me over and made up for so many thing that I hardly remember what was wrong to start with.

*sigh*

Six of Hearts was a magical read, with the most wonderful moments in between long stretches of nothing much happening. I absolutely adore this book and the characters and I read Macabre Magic right after, and for anyone who thinks about reading Six of Hearts I would recommend to get your hands on the free novella. It just broadens the experience and gives a little more insight into Jay and Matilda's future.

Things aren't always what they seem. At least not when Jay Fields is around. He's the master at tricking people without them even realizing it. When he forms a friendship with Matilda he knows it can be nothing more than just friendship. But Matilda has other plans, and Jay may find himself being the one tricked.

I honestly have no idea what I was thinking by letting this book go unread for so long. I saw the series around on my feed for the longest time and yet I just kept passing it by. So now I'm kicking myself because I loved this story! Jay was an amazing character and I felt like he grew a lot throughout the story, which I loved seeing. And Matilda was shy and reserved most of the time, but when she broke out of her shell she was a whole different person. And I loved seeing Jay helping her come out of her shyness.

Overall, this is a great book and I definitely need to read the second book soon. I give all of my GR friends permission to hunt me down and slap me if they see I haven't read it by the end of the year.

"Do your worst, for I will do mine"

Yeah Imma say it.... Magic hasn't been this hot since Harry Potter. It also feels like forever since I've really been excited to write a review! Mark your calendars folks! Today Magic hotness was brought back and a full review will be written!

Six of Hearts was a huge surprise to me. When I read the synopsis I remember hollerin' "HA, CHEESE!". I'm happy to announce I was correct! Because SOH is a fine aged cheese, the kind you find in the fancy cheese case in the deli section of at Harris Teeter. So yummy. This book was unique, fun, and wasn't too heavy on the romance. I know that sentence might be hard seeing, being this book revolves around romance... I stick to what I just said though the alluring pull of the plot and the lusty romance are very well balanced.

This book will have me leaving a lot plot wise to your imagination. Luckily we can talk about characters. Matilda and Jay; oh how I loved these two. Matilda is working as a receptionist for her father's tiny law firm when Jay, an illusionist, comes in seeking him out to be his attorney. He is wanting Matilda father to represent him in suing an entire newspaper company. Matilda is instantly drawn to this strange bad boy... I mean who wouldn't be with his confident mysterious charm (I know I was). These two of course have an instant bond, that only grows more teasingly good when Jay takes residence in Mat's father's house. I want to just do an entire review where I just quote these two, but then that wouldn't really be a review, but I PROMISE it would be amazing. These two are guaranteed to have you grinning and giggling the entire book. Not only are these two so lovey they are both incredibly charming. They both have such unique character traits and talents that give the both such life. It did take me a little longer to get into Matilda's character than it did Jay's. This has more to do with me than it does with her. I usually like male characters first... and with Jay being so cunning, fine, and hilarious there was really no way around it. Also didn't hurt that ya boy is book smart. Kept imagining him with the attitude of Jesse Eisenberg, but with the face of Alex Pettyfer *schwing*.

The side characters in this book too. Be still me heart! Loved them. Jay's best friend Jessie is great. She funny, blunt, and a good time. But Matilda's best friend, Michelle.... Just killed me. Everything she says had me rolling. I knew as soon as she said "TOLO- Tits Out Legs Open" I was completely sold. Then the drunken scene where they dance and talk in British accents, amazing! The plot of Six of Hearts is good, but it has nothing on it's characters.

Six of Hearts' plot will drag you in as soon as you read the prologue. Right away I was pulled in and was frantically flipping too get to the end. I had to know how things would end. I was also finding myself excited for something other than romance. I was waiting around for the moments when Jay got to preform and for the two of them just to be talking. I usually hone in on the romantic pacing of a book, but when I realized I wasn't I was actually set back. The romance and big secrets are revealed in the perfect manner. The only reason I couldn't give this book a perfect rating is because I knew what was going to happen at the end. I was hoping for something a little more jaw dropping (the ending is in NO way bad!), but found it a little predictable. That being said there was one thing that I didn't see coming that did shock my socks off a little. Oh and in case you were wondering the same thing I did, this does have the same feel as the movie Now You See Me, yeah which means it's great.

I wish I would have read this book during the summer because I think it'd be the perfect beach read. Not only did this book win me over, but the cover did too. At first glance I thought I hate it, but once I got deep into reading I realized how much I love it. If you're just getting into NA books I think this one would be a good fit and the perfect place to start. I really look forward to picking up more books by L.H. Cosway.

Overall Opinion: I liked this! I have been putting it off for a good while, and I think it was because I didn't find the whole magic aspect all that appealing. I thought it was handled really well by the author, in that it wasn't a huge focus but it helped add mystery to the H. My biggest complaint is that I wanted more! I was a bummed about the epilogue, but it's probably just that I'm a greedy B ;)

Brief Summary of the Storyline: This is Matilda and Jason's story. They meet when Jason attempts to hire Matilda's dad in representing him for a lawsuit against a newspaper for defamation of character. He ends up not gaining a lawyer, but renting a room to live in from them instead. They form a friendship that tiptoes the line into something more. There is an air of mystery that surrounds Jason, and they both are strongly attracted to each other. There is some magic (Jason is an illusionist), mystery, sexy and sweet moments, and some big secrets being revealed...and they do get a HFN ending.

POV: This was told in Matilda's POV.

Overall Pace of Story: Good. I never skimmed and I thought it flowed well (would've wanted more at the end though)

Instalove: No, they take a while to develop stronger feelings

H rating: 4 stars. Jason. I liked him -- even though he ran hot and cold a good bit.

h rating: 4 stars. Matilda. I liked her. She had a self-esteem issue that bothered me a little, but it wasn't too bad in that it made me dislike her.

Sadness level: Low/moderate. I teared up a few times, but never needed any tissues.

Push/Pull: Yes

Heat level: Moderate/low. There aren't a lot of scenes, but the ones there are were pretty hot.

Descriptive sex: Yes

Safe sex: Yes. Mentions of birth control and STD status. I don't remember any mention of previous practices.

OW/OM drama: Mild

Sex scene with OW or OM: No

Cheating: No

Separation: Yes

Possible Triggers: Yes

Closure: This is my biggest complaint in the book. I wanted way more closure! I really wanted a (farther) jump ahead epilogue with them as a committed happy couple with maybe a family. I'd call it a HFN ending.

How I got it: I got it as a freebie on Amazon. :)

Safety: I'd say that this should be Safe for most readers.

This is another one of those hard-to-rate books. The whole story wasn't impressive enough for me to give it 4 stars, but there was a good plot and the writing itself was good enough to get more than 3 stars from me. I had mixed feelings about this one. I enjoyed reading this but I felt like something was missing. Things that happened in this book were a bit off to me. I don't know how to explain, it was just that I didn't quite believe in this story. Almost everything worked out a little too smoothly, too perfectly which made it lack excitement and lack dramatic revelation of the hero’s character. The timing was too coincidental. I didn't feel connected to Jay and Matilda because they seemed unreal to me. I found the secondary characters were more colorful and true to life than two main characters though.

Jay was too arrogant and that irritated me a lot. I knew he had an important reason why he kept pushing Matilda away both emotionally and physically, but then pulling her back like it didn't matter. And yes, I knew he loved her, even so, I couldn't bring myself to like him.

Matilda wasn’t any better than Jay. She was too weak, head over heels for a guy who went back and forth in their relationship again and again. She kept lusting after him and never got tired of being a doormat.

However, there were many good things in this book. I loved how the story started. It was great and captivating, and I was hooked instantly after finishing the first page. The sex scenes were totally steamy hot and beautiful, and of course, filled with real passion. Even though almost the entire story seemed slightly implausible as I already said, I never lost interest and couldn’t stop turning the pages. Sounds weird but it’s true!

I wouldn’t say this was a disappointing read because it wasn’t, and I did enjoy the story for the most part. Let’s just say, some parts of this book are not to my taste and the way the main characters acted didn’t work for me. And after weighing everything up, I ended up giving this one 3 stars.

Please note that this is just my personal opinion. Don’t let my review keep you from trying this book.

“People love shit that’s all obscure and mysterious.”

Well, this is a book bandwagon I'm glad I jumped into. There's been so many positive reviews written about this book since it's release, and to be honest, I tend to stay away from the flavor of the month book because most of the time, I end up disappointed. That's not the case with this book.

Placed in Ireland, Matilda works as a secretary for her father in his small law firm. One day the illusionist Jay Fields walks in and proceeds to turn their world around. A slanderous article has been published about Jay, and he wants Matilda's father to assist him with the lawsuit. On top of this, Jay has rented a room with her father and is now living with the two of them for an indefinite amount of time.

“Note to self: Never try to out-trick a trickster.”

I honestly put this book down around 17% because the pacing was slow and other shinier books were calling to me. But with the urging of many of my GR's friends, I returned to this book to finish what I started. Around 22%, the book began to pick up some speed. At the beginning I really had to overlook how weird this book was set up. It all made sense by the end, but for me this dude just waltzed into these peoples' live and made himself at home.

I really loved Matilda as the heroine. She was a little insecure from her dating inexperience, but it was charming and not at all annoying. Jay, well, we all know Jay is amazing. And I don't want to inflate his ego so I will not continue.

About 50% of the way into the book I was growling with frustration. What was Jay's game? Were he and Matilda friends? Dating? FWB? Give me a label people!!!! I call this point of the book the Frustration Game, as in:
 photo sixofheartsmeme.png

I mean really,

Was it my favorite book of the year? No. Was it a fun and entertaining read? Yep! The banter was witty, the chemistry off the charts, and the side characters very well developed. I call this book a success!

One of my favorite books of 2015!!!!

I don't even know where to begin with this book. The only thing that I regret is that I didn't read it earlier... that I let it aside so many times, hesitating on the subject! God!!!! Cosway became one of my favorite writers and I know for sure that her next two books won't disappoint.
I read it when traveling by train and the 6 hour trip flew by without even noticing, and all of this dus to this amazing book.

The plot for me was very interesting, kind of nothing I've ever read before, that implies magic, action, love, a plan for vengeance, redemption and second chances.
Our heroes are Matilda, you average girl next door and Jay, an illusionist.
Matilda was my favorite. She is so admirable, her strength and sweetness despite living a tough life. She is an example to all of us, that no matter how many obstacles you have to face, do it with humbleness and dignity. I liked the idea of "not perfect", of being human, scarred and wanting to find somebody to love. On the opposite corned we find Jay, that had his struggled and baggage to carry, that had to survive as well as Matilda a terrific past that managed to make him the man that he is today. He is driven by vengeance, but Matilda was his balance. This is not the typical book where the hero has a plan and the heroine changes this manner of acting and thinking. No, here is much complicated, here the hero fights for a common cause, one that will lead to closure for both of them.

The connection between the characters is amazing, not only at a physical level, but emotional as well. I liked how they developed, how the little gestures became something much more. You will see when reading the book that there are many background events that already sealed their relationship, but you will discover them lately one as the plot progresses. I liked that nobody wanted to change anyone, that they accepted each other for what they are, with good and flaws.
They clicked so well and had an unity that not all the couples have in a book.

I liked the plot very much, an intelligent mixture of action, love and tension. It was literally one of those books that you simply discover and can't let it go until you finish it. It seriously has everything to made you a die hard fan.

"His childhood may have been stolen by adults, but he claims that childhood back with each new trick he creates"

And I fell completely under his spell...

Matilda wishes she had the time and money to do what she loves the most and that is designing and making beautiful clothes. Her reality is another one; she works as her father's assistant in his small law firm.

One Day famous illusionist Jay Fields walks into their office looking to hire her father as legal representation against a law suit that Jay wants to file, against the magazine and the reporter who is spreading lies about him and his magic act.

Not only does Jay finds a lawyer but also a place to live with Matilda and her father, renting a room in their house. Matilda can hardly believe she's living under the same roof as the hot illusionist that has manage to invade all her thoughts.

Jay and Matilda become fast friends, there's a familiarity in their relationship and then ,very organically it develops into something more, but Jay has a lot of secrets that he's keeping from Matilda. These very unique characters share a lot more that the intense feelings they have for each other, they share a painful past that as it turns out will be the foundation for an epic love story.

L.H Cosway is one of my go to authors whenever I'm in the mood for something epic and unique. Her writing style totally fascinates me, and always brings me so much joy. Another thing I've noticed is, that when reading one of her books I'm equally mesmerized by both, male and female characters in the story.

This book was absolutely wonderful and I loved very minute of it.

I wont' be including a music playlist in this review because the author already created a fabulous list of tunes, that go perfect with the story. Make sure to look for it on Spotify.

"Never try to out-trick a trickster."

____________________________________________
I think in triangles. You think in straight lines.

I show you a table and make you believe it’s a chair.

Smoke and mirrors, sleight of hand, misdirection. I trick and deceive.

But most of all, I put on a good show.

The world thinks I killed a man, but I didn’t. Bear with me. It’s all a part of the plan.

Revenge is what I want. I want it for me and I want it for her.
I want it for all six of us.

She doesn’t remember me, but she’s the reason for everything. She’ll be my prize at the end of all this – if I can hold onto my willpower, that is.

I’ve only got one heart, and after I’ve pulled off my grand deception I’ll hand it right to her.

So, sit back, relax, and let my girl tell you our story. You’re in for one hell of a ride.

____________________________________________

Six of Hearts was an interesting story. I wanted to go in as blind as possible, so I only read the blurb, and I got the vibe that this was going to be a dark, mysterious book. This was not the case. It still has it's rough, heartbreaking subjects but, even with all that, I found this book to be pretty light.

The writing was good and kept me entertained. There is a change of POV from the prologue to the chapters and for some reason I had some trouble adjusting. Personally, I love 1st person POV but I felt the author grabbed my attention more with 3rd.

Matilda was quirky and easily likable. She didn't really stand out to me much, except for the times where I was going ??? at some of the things she said/thought . . .
Also, I apologise to any woman whose parents were cruel enough to name her Dickina.

???

I soon learned it was just her character and after a while you get used to her kind of humor.

"Yeah I have a dirty mouth, but it's mostly used for good."

Jay was the opposite of Matilda . . . smooth, confident, etc. I liked his playful demeanor and how quick he was to protect those he cared about.

The plot was entertaining but predictable and by the end I had most of it figured out. What I love in a mystery is when the author leaves little clues throughout the whole book, that at first glance seems like nothing but in the end makes the whole story. I didn't really get that here.

Overall, I thought it was a cute, light read with nothing too nitty gritty and a sweet romance ♥

Rating: 3.5 stars ★★★☆

I'd thought I was just an attraction to him, I'd thought he just liked my body. But that can't be all there is. This feels like coming home, and my brain can't comprehend why.

Ok… so this was my first book by L H Cosway and…. I FREAKING LOVED IT!!!!! I must add, that I am not usually all that drawn in by magicians and magic shows… however, the underlying story here had me completely intrigued. And I fell head over heels for the characters. Both of them. Jason… “Jay” Fields, and Mathilda Brandon.

Their story was complicated. Their history, mysterious and violent. They shared a past that he would never forget, and she couldn’t bear to remember.

"I was in love with you," Jay repeats. "I am in love with you. I think I've loved you since I was a kid."

He had made a vow… and he would let nothing stand in his way.

 photo 3bdf614dc09195bb6897b1a170bfaa24.jpg

I won’t say too much about the story… it’s better going in blind. What I will say is that I was completely drawn in. Jay totally won my heart from the very beginning. He was hot, sexy, and completely aware of his affect on others. He was cocky and self-assured, with a dirty mouth that would burn the panties off of Mother Theresa. He had a plan, and he never veered from his goal. His only weakness was her.

"Such a temptation," he whispers... "How the fuck do I resist this?"

Mathilda was sweet and beautiful, but with an air of insecurity. She was resigned to her loneliness.

It was just going to be her and her Dad. She knew that. But it didn’t make her resentful. She had a smile for everyone. A smile that had captivated a young boy from her childhood. A young boy she would forget… A boy that would risk it all for a cause she had all but given up on.

The one thing I want to say about this book is that the author totally nailed the characters. Jay was so hot, and so damn sexy, I would challenge anyone not to fall in love with him.

"Look at this fuckin' outfit. Could you be any cuter?"

The story takes place in Dublin, Ireland. I think the case got a bit outlandish at the end. But it didn’t detract from the story one bit. I was hooked from start to finish.

"The maybe's could go on forever, Watson, but we both know that mystery is better than the truth. So why not live with the magic? Be a kid again and believe in the fantastical. Life is more fun with a little smoke and mirrors."

The story was interested and I was hooked from page 1. It was mysterious, well- execution. Of course, the author doesn't go in details how the tricks are done but it was lovely for me.
