Cast away and forsaken by the one man he loves, Angel’s life spirals deeper into the hell that is his life.
As the threats and dangers creep ever closer to consuming Maddy, Angel clings to the hope of escaping with his little brother. But when that hope is ripped from his hands and Maddy is forced to witness the brutal consequences of betraying their stepbrothers – he begs Angel to take him to heaven and out of this hell.
Angel resists the boy’s request, until a horrific new reality thrusts him to the edge of the abyss that separates life from death.
NOTE: This is book 2 of 3. All three books are now available: 1. ANGEL: When Angels Cry 2. ANGEL 2: When Angels Fall 3. ANGEL 3: Angels and Demons
Born and raised in scenic Coos County, Oregon, CJ enjoys the small town atmosphere and down-to-earth country folk who populate the area. She is a single mother and lives with her 18-year-old daughter, 1 horse, 4 dogs and 6 cats deep in the country woodlands which gives her plenty of time to write.
She is a Christian and a strong supporter of the LGBT community and favors gay erotic romance when it comes to writing. She hopes that her stories of love and acceptance will help further compassion and understanding for LGBT people who she feels is greatly misunderstood and persecuted - in a large party by the Christian community.
Most of all, she is hopeful that her stories will bring comfort to those who have been told that God hates them because they are different. It is her strong belief that God loves everyone and His love covers all.
Fuck I don't even know where to begin on the review for this book. Angel is so loving and will do anything to protect his brother Maddy. And he has had some really horrendous things done to him. Dane, I really hate you right now, you're going to have to come up with one hell of an explanation to get your ass out of this fuck up. And seriously Max, pull your head out of your ass and take Horatio back already!
Just to make that clear in the beginning: This is not a whole book in a series, this is part of a book, that’s been split in three. A book in a series has one arc, that is completed at the end of the book, other stuff can still be open etc.etc.
So – while I dislike this concept of breaking up storylines into several partial books – I knew this before I started reading. I got the first part free on amazon and thought “well, why not, the other two ones are affordable, too, it’s like getting a sample”.
This means – my review is for all “three books”: When Angels Cry When Angels Fall Angels and Demons
Now…actually, the first part must have been good enough for me to buy the second part, right?
Yes, Angel is a sweet character and I liked him. He made a few bad judgments in my opinion but hey, I can’t hold that against him, his life had been horrible so far…..aaaand now comes the rant: Am I really supposed to believe that a boy, who had been raped for his first time at the age of thirteen, then forced to prostitute himself over years, really enjoys sex? Okay, with the magic ingredient of love and emotions..but with a customer? All the while knowing his little brother is alone at home with the two men who did this to him? *gulp*
And the biiiig issue he and Dane have is solved by a simple “I forgive you”? Angel doesn’t even want to know why?
So, I’m not going into the storyline because I’m writing about all three parts and don’t want to spoil it. Let’s just describe the parts this way: There is a lot of sex, between side characters (who seem to have their own books) and some between the MCs themselves and both with others, voluntarily and forced. There is rape. There is protected and unprotected sex (okay, short rant: Angel wants Dane to use a condom to fuck him because he doesn’t know about his own health status anymore – yup, had forced bareback sex the day before – but has no problem coming in his mouth). There is sex to console a friend over heart wrenching grief, so deep and profound that he can’t function anymore (okay, some parts obviously still function).
Oh…you heard my sarcasm. Sorry, I tried to keep it away but it slipped in.
All men – yes, as mentioned, there are more – seem to have secrets, issues, deep soul eating troubles (even the ones who seemed to be in a happy relationship). They solve/avoid them mostly by fucking which could have been hot but got repetitive after a while. All sex scenes – and there are many – sounded very similar.
So – this book has sex, humiliation, prostitution, troubles souls, rape, loved up couple, etc. If you like all that, you’ll probably like it. For me it got boring and I was very tempted to skip parts, another soul searching, another sex scene….sorry. Oh..and I’m going to give the first one two stars – because it was okay. Unfortunately the second and third didn’t really do it for me, they get one star.
Dane, you're an idiot, and I'm very angry with you. How could you devastate poor Angel like that? I mean, yes, I understand, miscommunication, but really? Dane, you're almost thirty years old. You haven't learned anything about asking if you have questions or doubts? Oi. So, you can see how I'm feeling as I begin this book, the second in Angel's trilogy, and the eighth in the overall series. My heart was already breaking for Angel, and now I'm just angry with Dane. Hmpf.
Angel is having to actively seek out clients, at the club, who want more than just a dance, in order to finance his stepbrothers new cocaine habit. Angel is almost at the end of his rope, and he doesn't know what to do. After Dane broke his heart, Angel doesn't trust any of the guys at the club, and believes they're all out to get something from him. The worst thing imaginable happens, though, when Wade tricks Angel, and discovers Angel has been skimming money in order to get himself and Maddy away from them. Maddy is thoroughly traumatized by being forced to watch three men assault Angel, and the next day he expresses his wish to go to heaven with Angel.
As if that isn't bad enough, Angel discovers that Dane pushed him away because Dane is tied to one of Angel's most horrific memories. Could Angel's life get any worse? I shouldn't have asked that question, huh? And, oh-my-God, the author has left me hanging on a gigantic cliffhanger. I don't know if Dane is alive, I have no idea whether Maddy and Angel are going to be alive, and now I'm worried about what's going to be coming along to tear the happiness away from Gabe and Cole. Oh, and don't let me forget that Horatio and Max are still simmering in the background, and with the additions of Seth, and, possibly, Carl. It's nerve wracking, I tell you.
One thing I do know - I want the slimy guys to pay, and pay, and, preferably, with a lot of pain and torment involved.
I love when I get a poke from Amazon, Goodreads, or Bookbud. This one regarded author CJ Bishop. When I double checked my Kindle Library contents I learned I had five bundles: 3 Phoenix Clubs and 2 Cowboy Gangster sets. I read several pages of different samples on Amazon and ended up selecting the Angel Trilogy.
I was quite surprised how erotic this trilogy was and much more disturbing the high level of sexual violence. I have to be honest I just skimmed through several of the sexual scenes and there were quite a few. Established couples and friends offering comfort using the sex to reconnect or console. Sex was also used as a vicious violent weapon.
I need to forewarn future readers some of what happens to helpless victims is cruel and horrifying. The themes of redemption, forgiveness, revenge, brotherly love, friendship, and heartbreak. As is the message that what you do does not define who you are.
I love Angel in the other books and Dane. I know they over come things and get married, but I just couldn't get into this. It was too dark and depressing for my liking. Dane and Angel broke up and the both a mess. Dane realized as Angel was having a nightmare that he knew him from five years before. He'd been at another club and I don't know what happened cause I skipped a lot when was going down road of unwanted sex but Dane was near by when happened seems.
It just horrible and Wade found the money Angel hid. Also they found out that Angel is getting paid big bucks to have sex with other customers but they don't know the why. Cole tried get out him but all Angel could see was him there like Dane had been. Lots trigger warnings for rape and self harm thoughts.
This author doesn’t understand the difference between the use of “don’t” vs. “ doesn’t “. And it pisses me off. How can you be considered an author if you can’t get basic grammar?
OMFG !! I thought Caleb's story was heartbreaking and horrendous but Angel's is even worse ! I couldn't stop reading this and my heart is breaking even now as i write this review. Angel, as we know, was saving money without Wade knowing to try and get him and his brother, Maddie away but he get's set up by Wade and the payback is more than just the cash he's taken ! I seriously hate Wade and his cronies so much !! And poor Dane !! Oh god i really don't know how to do anymore of a review without spoiling anything so i'm off to read the next installment of Angel !
Angel is a mess I totally felt for him and at every turn he's thrown to the wolfs. Must read to carry on with the story.
Dean I could of kicked his butt with the way he treated things just after there moment of passion and to run to max and sleep with him - Hell No, That had me not liking him At all in this book. Angel is a mess and does stuff that's even more risky to himself.
Fantastic read I was kindle gripping and shouting at this one.
One thing the characters in the Phoenix Club Series is they all have a hard time knowing God's love, cry at a drop of a hat and sex... wow!
LOL... I can't wait to see what brings Angel and Dane back together... I have no idea if I'd be able to forgive Dane if he did to me what he did to Angel... and poor Maddy, that poor boy I can't imagine feeling so helpless.
What an amazing second installment! Such a tragic love story that has you rooting for the little guy. I am hooked on the Phoenix Club dancers and their boss. I can't wait to see how this works out. An amazing author.
OMG I didn't see this coming how in the hell, can Dane and Angel get passed this. I don't even want to know which one Dane was, this so much more worst then Able or Caleb. This series is ripping me apart I don't know how much more my heart, can take but yet I read on.
Oh my god what a book!! I cant believe what Angel has been through in such a short space of time! I can understand its all for Maddy but how much more can he take?? And Dane..........
By book 3 if you get that far it gets even worse This series/trilogy is not nice at all Trigger warnings rape incest child abuse The list goes on ∑8-((
