About the author

Robert Louis Balfour Stevenson was a Scottish novelist, poet, and travel writer, and a leading representative of English literature. He was greatly admired by many authors, including Jorge Luis Borges, Ernest Hemingway, Rudyard Kipling and Vladimir Nabokov.

Most modernist writers dismissed him, however, because he was popular and did not write within their narrow definition of literature. It is only recently that critics have begun to look beyond Stevenson's popularity and allow him a place in the Western canon.

I just happened to browse through this book a little while back - wow, I was impressed by how neat it seemed! I really liked the poems, quotes and verses they chose. This book would be great to read with children. The illustrations (paintings) are, of course, very beautiful. Very heartwarming and sweet.

This book features the trademark Thomas Kinkade paintings illustrating poems by RL Stevenson and others. While I enjoy both the literature and the artwork, to me this is not the definitive Child's Garden of Verses.

i want to like this book, but i just.... don't. I find it boring. Chunked up. Lacking. Love Robert Louis Stevenson and would like version that captures his whimsical glimpses of childhood with illustration from his time period.
