This book was fascinating and well-paced. I enjoyed little details that W. Terry Whalin captured about Billy Graham’s childhood and journey. Laying out Billy Graham’s personal story in parallel with the broad impact of his ministry on the world was a great blend. Terry does a nice job of showing what a powerful impact God can make through one individual. One little boy grew into one great man who has always deflected any praise to God who made it happen. The book was a great reminder of Billy ...more

If you are a fan of biographies and an admirer of Billy Graham, his contributions to the Kingdom and his zealous work for God, read this book. It “capture[s] the key turning points in Billy Graham’s life.” Becoming aware of how God ordered Billy Graham’s steps was perhaps the most valuable insight I gained from the book. Becoming better acquainted with Bill Frank, the man, who loved God, milked cows, revered hard work, and honored and obeyed his parents made the reading enjoyable and every bit ...more

I grew up on a farm and found Terry Whalin's account of Graham's early life nostalgic and captivating. The evangelist became human. Whalin provides intimate details throughout his subject's life, from how many cows he had to milk on the farm; how he loved sports, sometimes at the expense of his studies; how he met key individuals and heeded their advise; how God brought Ruth into his life; how he influenced not only the poor and humble, but the rich and famous. I highly recommend this biography.

Billy Graham, A Biography of America’s Greatest Evangelist is a revolutionary reminder of God’s unchanging love for a dark world that is in desperate need of His light. It is a profile of how God can take frail mankind and use him for the glory of his kingdom, thus changing the lives of millions. Billy Graham’s devotion to his calling and love for the souls of ALL men is refreshing. W. Terry Whalin has expertly captured his life in the 153 pages of this book. It made my heart weep again for the ...more

I have vivid memories from my childhood years of a man on television preaching in a commanding voice to the television audience and the large crowds of people present wherever he spoke. Even then, I wondered at my parent's choice of programming. Weren't the Sunday church sermons enough? Raised in a strict Catholic home, I'd heard more than once that my church was the only way to heaven, and this man was not Catholic. I would pull out a book to read or wander to the corner of the room to play ...more

W.Terry Whalin's writing at its best—clear and concise. Terry has the instinct of a reporter in the way he gives us "just the facts," but they are displayed in a careful manner so the reader makes his own inferences.

Terry doesn't have to say Billy Graham has integrity. He shows us the struggle in Graham's heart as he assumed leadership of an institution of higher learning amidst a wearying speaking schedule. Listening to a mentor's wish . . . Could he do both justice?

I started to read this book because I knew the author. I finished it because I couldn't put it down. Along the way I learned a lot about Billy Graham, his early years, and the evolution of his ministry. Beyond all that, I was moved by the way the author's words transcended the physical page. I found myself so moved by the stories of faith, spiritual conversations with world leaders and even the intimate details of behind the scenes questioning the Graham family and staff had as they traveled the ...more

Unlike most biographies, Billy Graham, A Biography of America’s Greatest Evangelist is short and easy to read. You might even call it cozy non-fiction.
But the author W. Terry Whalin has included all the important information about Graham’s life from his childhood to the present day. And an unusual life it was!
Billy Graham has touched thousands - perhaps millions - of lives and this book helps us feel like we know him personally. It’s definitely worth reading.

Fascinating, captivating and a delightful read. You know you've got a well written book in your hands when the author is able to educate you, inform you and entertain you all at the same time.

Having read about Billy Graham before I was expecting to see some common themes. Instead with every turn of the page I found myself learning new things about the man, his career and his legacy.

A great read.

I can't vouch for its being comprehensive about Billy Graham's life, but it is a very interesting quick read. I'd recommend it for teens and those who want to learn of the importance and scope of Graham's influence. Of particular interest to me was Chapter 13 relating his interactions with all the Presidents from Kennedy through Obama. I received a copy to review through Goodreads First Reads.

When I received the complimentary copy of Whalin's book for review, my first thought was: This 152 page book can't possibly adequately reveal the life and biography of Billy Graham—a man whom a vast majority believe is the greatest evangelist America has ever had.

Then I read, "Spanning more than ninety years, Billy Graham's story cannot be contained in a single book. The stories of changed lives through his preaching could not be contained in a roomful of books. This short biography attempts to

We were given a review copy of Billy Graham: A Biography of America’s Greatest Evangelist by the author for the purpose of writing an unbiased review.

The book Billy Graham is very well endorsed by many prominent people. That being said, the true measure of a book is not who liked it so much as how it makes you feel when you read it.

This book is not a very long book. In fact, it only has 152 pages, but oh how the author uses those pages!

Terry Whalin's biography is full of wonderful anecdotes and stories about America's greatest evangelist. After the first two chapters' background information, I found myself glued to the pages as the story of Billy Graham's faith and legacy developed. In spite of my personal connections to Billy and his ministry, many of the stories were new to me and gave me a fresh admiration for him and his commitment to leadership and ministry. Whalin provides a comprehensive history of Billy's maturation, ...more

I have a feeling that the contents of this biography represent the tip of the iceberg of Terry Whalin's research. This is a fast-paced read, but the book's pace isn't nearly as fast as that of Billy Graham's life. His ministry must've felt like a rodeo ride that went for 80 years rather than 8 seconds, with the entire world as the arena.

Beginning as early as the 1940s, Billy Graham and his team proclaimed the good news of Jesus Christ in crusade meetings for days that stretched into weeks that

Billy Graham, The Golden Age of Evangelism in the Twentieth Century & The American Presidents

At 150 pages and a handy 6x9 size, this book is easy to tote along and a lovely, effortless read. Everyone is busy, but it is worth making the short space of time to read this little gem on the life of a great man of Christ. Each chapter is short enough to be easily absorbed in a small space of time, yet just long enough and full of interesting anecdotes and vignettes to leave the reader feeling as

When I was a teenager, I remember how my heart was moved by Billy Graham’s Peace with God. The simple way in which Graham is able to express profound truths has enabled him to connect with audiences of all backgrounds, cultures, and academic levels. After reading Terry Whalin’s crisp and inspiring Billy Graham: A Biography of America’s Greatest Evangelist, it dawned on me that Graham’s latest biographer appropriately reflects the style and disposition of his subject. I loved the audio version of the book. The Narrator's voice was pleasant and easy to hear. The various voice patterns for each person added excitement for the listener.

Nevertheless, the narrator wouldn't have the material to read without the wonderful, well-thought-out words of Terry Whalin. Terry uses descriptive words; giving the reader an in-depth view of Dr. Graham's life. The flow of the book from childhood to an aged and delightful man was enlightening. This book entered my life at the most appropriate time, as I am one who struggles from time to time wondering if God could really use someone like me. Through his thorough telling of Billy Graham’s life, Author Whalin has helped me remember the old adage, “It is not our ability that God wants, but our availability.” W. Terry Whalin, beautifully demonstrates Billy Graham’s love for Christ and the fact it was that love which motivated Billy Graham to share the Gospel with whomever, where ever. ...more

“Billy Graham, a Biography of America’s Greatest Evangelist” is a comprehensive chronology, of Billy Graham’s ministry over the years of his lifetime. The biography flows from his boyhood and conversion experience throughout his journey and calling to be an evangelist.

Early on, Mr. Graham was convinced that his message to the world was the Gospel of Jesus Christ, and he stayed faithful to this ministry throughout his days. The author includes many interesting antidotes that express the modesty
As a long-time admirer of Billy Graham, I found this short biography fascinating. The author tells Graham's life in anecdotes and stories more than in details and data. I felt that I really got to know the great evangelist as a man who loved the Lord and did his best to carry out his calling. The story flowed smoothly and gave an excellent overview of a life lived for God.

The focus was on Graham's career as an evangelist. His wife Ruth was only a minor player in the narrative, and his children

This sweeping biography swiftly covers the ninety-plus years of the life of evangelist Billy Graham. From his simple farm beginnings to preaching around the world and becoming a friend to world leaders, this one man has profoundly affected millions of people’s lives. The book focuses mainly on the highlights of his life and ministry, with plenty of

Billy Graham lived and preached with a laser-focus on Christ and His cross. In this biography Terry Whalin explains, in page-turning fashion, how God used that unwavering focus to keep Billy Graham close to Himself, to draw unnumbered others to saving faith in Jesus Christ, and to serve as an example to all what it looks like when one lives in unconditional surrender to God’s will.

This book is a worthy addition to your library, and one you will want to share.

I am lucky to know the author, therefore reading this book about one of my heroes was like having Terry sitting next to me and telling me about the man, Billy Graham. Lucky me, but lucky you too as you will get the same feeling. Terry does not talk from on high, speaking down to the reader. He brings you up close and it is if he is talking to only you about this great PERSONA, who Terry reminds us that Billy Graham is first of all ... just a human being ... the same as YOU AND ME.

I especially liked the childhood stories and how Billy chose his evangelical life. It's an easy and quick read while covering 80+ years of a spiritual and religious icon. I recommend it to anyone who has any interest in learning about a man who made a difference in countless lives all over the globe.
