Laura Benanti: Nobody Cares

Rate this book
As a precocious kid who took Broadway by storm at the age of 18, Laura Benanti spent her formative years playing grown-ups onstage, but it took her a while to figure out how to be one in real life. With her razor-sharp wit and unapologetic candor, Benanti shares her hard-won insights on topics like marriage, motherhood, perimenopause, female friendship, and making peace with the younger versions of ourselves. Whether you’re a mom juggling a million responsibilities, or just anyone trying to navigate the complexities of becoming a person that you’re proud of—prepare to laugh until you cry as Benanti skewers the societal expectations and double standards that so often leave us feeling like “nobody cares.”

Punctuated with five original songs co-written by Benanti and Todd Almond, LAURA BENANTI: NOBODY CARES was recorded live during a sold-out run at the Minetta Lane Theatre In New York City.

This is an audio recording of Broadway star Laura Benanti’s one-woman show. The show and its handful of songs were written by her and it’s a hilarious tale of a self-described recovering people pleaser as she survives childhood, multiple marriages, the theater and TV worlds, motherhood, and perimenopause. Even if you’ve never seen Benanti on the stage or TV (especially her occasional spots on the Colbert show spoofing Melania Trump), this is fun stuff.

I adore her Melania impression on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert. This had so many LOL moments and I liked the songs mixed in. Many of her jokes were relatable. Like how people feel free to judge women; especially if you have kids.

Comedy recorded. Audio. Musical. Funny in moments and not funny in others. Glad it was short.

Laura Benanti is a treasure. A spectacular singer and a gifted actress, she is also a phenomenal storyteller in this excellent audiobook. Alternatively, hilarious and heartbreaking yet always touching and honest, this ranks among my favorite show-business memoirs, albeit in a unique audio performance!
