Carol Marinelli was born in England to Scottish parents, then emigrated to Australia, where there are loads of Scottish and English people who did exactly the same, so she’s very at home there.

She lives in the outer suburbs of Melbourne—pretty much in her car, driving her three children to their various commitments.

Carol writes for the Harlequin Presents and Medical lines and she also writes contemporary women's fiction (with a dark twist).
When she's not writing she's reading, when she's not reading she's writing.

The Pregnant Intern was only Carol Marinelli's 4th book & it's pretty good. Surgical consultant Jeremy Foster has appeared in all 4 books, although in the 1st one he was called Jeremy Forster. In the past he was known for his womanising & arrogance but in the 3rd book, The Emergency Assignment, he nearly died when he smashed his Porsche. In another author slip-up, Jeremy tells a patient he broke his back but, in the previous book, a doctor said that his spinal x-rays were clear. Jeremy has spent the last year recovering. Having been helpless for months & having to re-learn the most basic functions has caused him to reassess his life & he's now a changed man.

As the story opens, Jeremy is returning to work. Registrar Linda is annoyed as she hoped to get his job & she was also the one woman he never made a pass at. Linda is the weak point of the book, too nasty to be believable.

Alice Masters is the eponymous pregnant intern. She's been dumped by her partner for another woman &, despite being 25 weeks pregnant & with raised blood pressure, needs to work for another 3 months in order to qualify as a doctor.

The old Jeremy wouldn't have looked twice at a pregnant woman but now he falls hard for Alice & she's reluctantly attracted to him. Their relationship develops believably until the point where Linda gets her revenge.

PS: On pages 84-85 Jeremy talks to Alice about Olivia, his former fiancee, who was the FMC of book 1, The Outback Nurse.

I actually quite enjoyed reading this novel. It was one of the best pregnant/doctor ones I've read.
