In Beautifully Broken, Kansas City native Bobbi Jo Reed tells her personal story of addiction, recovery, and redemption. Reed's recovery journey led to her founding of the Healing House in KCMO--a mission dedicated to housing people in recovery as they work to get back on their feet. What started as a single house helping a handful of women has grown to a non-profit organization that continually houses and supports more than a hundred people in recovery at a time.

I met Bobbi Jo when I drove my daughter and classmates to do a service project at the Healing House offices. Bobbi Jo told these fifteen- and sixteen-year-olds her powerful story, raw bits and all, and they were just entranced--by what she'd been through, by her lack of sugarcoating and, I think, by the fact that she could now be standing before them, smiling and telling this jaw-dropping tale. Then after the workday, as the kids were getting ready to go, she hugged each and every one of them. She definitely made an impression.

Reading this book is like hearing Bobbi Jo speak. I could hear her voice coming through on every page.

This is an amazing true story of a woman's struggle with many addictions, and how she used these afflictions as a positive way out of the darkness. She is an incredible woman and I have volunteered at Healing House in Kansas City, Missouri due to what it is doing for not only addicts, but for the community in which Bobbi Jo Reed is leading the charge against the addictions of our lifetime. She helps so many people and I know that there is a documentary on Amazon called "Under the Influence." I am proud to have met her and know that my way of life changed for the better by learning of her ministry to help others who need love, hope, faith and patience.

Thank you Bobbi Jo Read, I know there are many like you in this world... Keep up the good work

Wow! Amazing that any one person can survive 22 years of depraved living.

Yet when she reached the bottom, she realized that the only way to stay clean was to give to others.

Bobbi Jo does a good job of describing her horrible years without too much graphic description and without glamorizing any part of her life, not even the years as God built her ministry.

A mature middle schooler could probably handle the content of this book, though I would suggest an adult be available to discuss it with them.

A very interesting story of an addict, who found Jesus, turned her life around and founded recovery homes for other addicts in Kansas City.

We are all broken in some way. This book is how Bobbi Jo Reed was broken and how Jesus transformed her life. As a result of this transformation she started helping others with drug and alcohol addiction. It is a lesson that God can transform our lives no matter where we are or what we have done. Just as Bobbi Jo Reed did, we are called to share our story with others and help them feel the transforming power of Christ. I recommend this book.

I appreciate so much Ms. Reed's willingness to share her past and allow God to use her to transform a community. A straightforward read that can grieve and inspire.
