John F. MacArthur, Jr. was a United States Calvinistic evangelical writer and minister, noted for his radio program entitled Grace to You and as the editor of the Gold Medallion Book Award-winning MacArthur Study Bible. MacArthur was a fifth-generation pastor, a popular author and conference speaker, and served as pastor-teacher of Grace Community Church in Sun Valley, California beginning in 1969, as well as President of The Master’s College (and the related Master’s Seminary) in Santa Clarita, California.
I think I would’ve benefitted from this more had I not read it in small chunks and only focused on the one chapter this commentary covers. But it’s definitely a solid choice if you’re looking for a quick yet deep study of Scripture.
I had the privilege of reading a pre-publication version of this book, and it is excellent! It is one of John MacArthur's books in the Great Chapters of the Bible series, based upon his commentaries. This book is the first to use content from the MacArthur Old Testament Commentary series. The title mentions Christ's triumph, as this book covers Daniel's vision in Daniel 9 of when the coming Messiah's kingdom will overcome all. Ever been confused about Daniel's 70-weeks prophecy? This book clears everything up with great clarity and accessibility. I have a much better understanding of Daniel's vision and the End Times after reading it. Highly recommend!
Just like his other volumes in this series, the Great Chapters of the Bible (GCB), this was a helpful spring board into a desire to study a whole book of the Bible—in this case Daniel. MacArthur is the best at this, a concise commentary that is somehow so thoroughly theological and deeply devotional. This look at Daniel 9 is so clear, but also filled with much joy as the prophecy of 70 weeks is a direct answer to Daniel's prayer. What an encouragement that is!
