"The will of man is not expressed in disorder or violence; that is the mark of suffering." Marshal Rosenberg would totally agree.

"If a child carries out the will of a teacher because he is afraid or because his affection is exploited, he has no will, and obedience that is secured by suppression of the will is truly oppression."

"The real aim of all children was revealed as constancy in work and spontaneity in choice of work, without guidance of teachers. Following some inner guide, they occupied

Education For A New World
This is the book which has introduced me to the world of Dr. Montessori's writings. Every parent and teacher, for that matter every individual should read this book so as to understand how human psychology is built right from the formative years. This book especially discusses about a child's mental and physical growth in the first 6 years of life. It even discusses the embryonic development that takes place before the child comes out to this world.

This book gives an overview of the expectations, capabilities and a possible method that helps the children achieve the potentialities of children through the first six years of their life. The book is easy to read and Dr. Montessori talks about her own method which she evolved through observation. The amount of thought and analysis that she went through to evolve the method is mind-blowing. She stumbled upon the field of Education - thanks to discriminations in the Science and medical field - a ...more

...more

This book, written later in Montessori's life, reads like a grand synopsis of her life's work. It highlights much of the stronger material from previous books, the overarching ideas that give glue to her philosophy of education. I love that she got all Cosmic after her time in India; it's such a perfect way to tie all of her thoughts and methods to a truly holy cause--the cause of humanity and world peace.

The idea of "evolution" plays a strong role in the philosophy of this book. Evolution, and
