Don't know from where Goodreads gets their publishing dates. This was originally published in 1960, I have a copy. I also have the reprint from 1998. She wrote other books on cookery, Italian, Russian and German, all of which I have as original or the new reprint series. Yes, the author is female, something I learnt long after I'd bought her books and assumed she was he ! She was a collector of recipes, which she did by visiting the countries concerned. You get a few historical details, anecdotes, or preambles before a recipe, but of course no photos. The reprints are £10, but you may find the earlier paperbacks for pennies.
This book is so charming. The author relates recipes within the setting of her travels in Greece in the 1950's I have pulled several fun little recipes and techniques out of it that I use all the time. The more rustic ones work well for camping. I admit I haven't tried the most complicated dishes, so can't vouch for all the recipes, but Greek cooking is simple, as long as you know the tricks, and Ms Howe shares those she knows. Mouth watering...
