I would actually give this book 2.5 stars. While I've never been married, I thought this book would be an all faith approach on how current and future couples can make a marriage last. However, it was written from a very conservative viewpoint because the authors are Baptist. The authors put "with emphasis added" to some of the biblical text. The Bible is to me is the one book you should never twist and turn to suit your own needs into your own opinions. The book can also get sexist at times because women should be treated as partners in life and not just mere objects of a man's power and/or authority. I got this book at Family Christian when they were closing their doors so I got a deal on it.

My Review:

You never know after a marriage that has lasted for over a decade that you may have brought several things with you in the beginning. By several things I mean things that are from a past love life or maybe from your childhood. Things that in some strange and mystifying way shaped how you would view life and how you would view your spouse. My husband and I are coming up on our 20th anniversary and as each day would get closer we would start to reflect on the past twenty years. As we started to reflect, we started to see some things that we knew would need to change.

As we start to embark on the next 20 years, we want it to be different. We want it to be stronger and more grounded. And this time we want God involved, because in the past we didn't even give Him this chance to help us, empower us, or change us. It has been said that as long as God is at the forefront of your life that all the other things will fall into place and that is something that God is showing us each day on this journey.I can tell you from past experience that it takes both spouses to choose to do this that makes it so utterly awesome. But I can on the other hand tell you I know what it's like to do it on your own---just God and you.

We have also decided in this process to use Setting Your Marriage Free, as a way of working out all the final kinks. We realize how hard it is going to be, but we know that it is going to be worth it. Reading over the book I was immediately drawn in as the authors were talking to me and my situation. Many of the things I read and the examples of other people in similar situations spoke to my heart and I went to my husband about it and asked if he would work through the book with me.

The authors present the readers with a seven step process to restoring their marriage in the hopes it will set them free from Satan's bondage over them and over their marriage. This book is an excellent way to address all concerns in your marriage and to show you just how much control the devil has over something that he shouldn't have any place in. We plan on going through each of the seven steps so that we are truly free in our marriage. We are so glad to have a guide book to show us how to achieve freedom.

**Disclosure** This book was sent to me free of charge for my honest review from Bethany House.

This is a very well written book aimed at married couples regardless of the stage of the marriage they are in. Every marriage needs help, some more than others. This book provides the steps needed to work through every issue and stage with God. While I am not married, I did find the book informative and something I would want to use should I ever decide to share my life with another. It is well presented and full of valuable information. I received an evaluation copy through Bethany House in exchange for an honest review. This in no way affected my opinion.
