An interesting concept, but the telling of the story leaves a lot to be desired. I read Sorcerer of the Waves to my daughters, just as I had the first two books. They were interested at first, but have now become quite disengaged, as the story really went nowhere.

Asa and her brother, Rollo, hear about their parents' old sorcerer being trapped somewhere, so they run off at night to find him. In all reality, they could have had Asa transform into a bird, fly across to the sorcerer, get the scoop on what's going on and then fly back - as that would have been just as interesting as the story was.

I will read the final story to the girls, simply because we've gone through the first three and because they are short (even though it takes so long, because you just get bored of the book and start other stories instead).

SORCERER OF THE WAVES is the third book in THE SUNKEN KINGDOM series.

Asa and Rollo have brought Skalti back to Two Hills Keep with them after their adventure in book two. Skalti and Aunt Katla seem to have formed a fondness for each other. Asa doesn't believe Rollo, so the two of them sneak a peek at the two adults one evening after they've supposedly gone to bed. Asa and Rollo overhear the two and realize that there are still secrets that they don't know. Apparently the old magician, Ragni, who has given the two children their enchantments, is still alive! He's being held prisoner. But to the children, this means that if Ragni is still alive, maybe their parents are still alive, too.

With a small well of hope inside, the two children decide to venture out after midnight on their magical ship Northseeker. The have to go to Twistwater Point to find Ragni.

Asa and Rollo set off on another adventure that brings them in contact with lizard men, a sea monster, and outlaws on the island off of Twistwater Point. They seek Ragni and answers to their questions. But those answers will just lead to more questions.

SORCERER OF THE WAVES is another thrilling adventure in THE SUNKEN KINGDOM series. Ms. Wilkins is able to write a quick adventure tale that will leave young and old readers alike wanting more. Mr. Cornish's illustrations accompany the story beautifully.

Stay tuned for the fourth book in the series, THE STAR QUEEN, due out September 2008.
