Betrayed, rejected, and now my fated mate wants me back? Never.

Six years ago, he chose duty over me.
Then I was sold to a cursed pack, imprisoned for eight months, carrying his child.

I escaped, swearing never to look back.
But fate has other plans.

Now, he’s trapped me in his territory with a spell.
“You’re mine,” he says.
Mine? What a joke.

He has a fiancée. I have a child to protect.
But his regret cuts deep, and his eyes burn with promises I can't trust.

This time, I won't break.
This time, I fight—for me and my child.

2.5ish stars 😂 I wasn't going to write a review because it was just meh, but then I realized there are very few reviews that aren't 4 or 5 stars on here and a lot of those are ARC's, so I felt obligated to comment. This book wasn't the worst I've ever read, it felt like slightly better quality writing than your average Wattpad story. But God, the heroine was as dumb as rocks in a starfish aquarium! She was recklessly naive and completely unaware of the world around her. She never got out of any situation because of any effort on her part, she kinda lucked into everything or someone else saved her. The H also was kind of shitty 'yes man'. "Because my father wanted me to do it" is an absolutely terrible reason for him to reject her publicly, humiliate her and tell her she's not worthy of love after sleeping with her the night before. He never groveled, he barely apologized or admitted responsibility. He mainly just felt guilty. Even still, he kept waffling back and forth between keeping her or rejecting her, even AFTER he was honestly going to make her stay there and see him get married and mated to a new woman. That is beyond cruel! I wish she *had* slept with someone else, he deserved that at the very least. That all was just kinda brushed under the rug and never really brought up again how that was resolved. In fact, most things in this story were just stuffed under the bed or in the closet or whatever corner that could hide the fact there were so many loose ends drifting around. I guess the sex was alright? The son definitely inherited the whole "no real personality" thing from both of them. If this book was a color it would be beige. Maybe Taupe. I was never moved, but I was never enraged either. All in all, a mediocre way to spend my evening.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.

The plot was pretty thin with this one. There wasn't any real substance to any of the relationships. It all felt very shallow. The writing also didn't flow very well and felt a bit wooden at times. There was no medium in this novel. They were always extremely angry or extremely hurt, or extremely sad. I can see why the MCs were exhausted all the time.

The rejected mate, secret baby troupe, is a guilty pleasure of mine. I enjoyed Jennifer Eve's unique twist in Alpha's Runaway Mate. The events weren't in the chronological order that I'm used to, which brought a fresh perspective to the story.

I found the characters to be okay. I do hate that all the BS was laid at Lyra's, the MFC's, feet. Kaine was mostly at fault but didn't take nearly as big of a hit for it. Now, the plot was good. I can't stand this pack. They weren't evil, but they were good either. I didn't know who to trust. They seemed to lack sympathy as a whole.

A lot of BS was going on in this pack. The secrets, revelations, broken promises, betrayal, and outright lies all made for a crap ton of drama, and that's just inside the pack. They were also facing threats from outside the pack. The twists were so good! I mean, who could have seen them coming? Jennifer somehow pulled a HEA off by the skin of her teeth. Alpha's Runaway Mate was a good one.

I LOVED it
For the first time this year I didn’t want to put a book down. It consumed me from start to finish. It was everything a rejected mate book should be. With so many plot twist it was packed with angst, drama and action.

Howling Good!

This was an interesting and engaging book to read. So much angst and emotion. Such a distance both in miles and emotions for the main couple to find each other again.

This was a tough read for me. There was potential to be really great but there was silly spelling errors and then opportunity’s were missed to really make the twist and turns stand out. The story didn’t flow very well either. Over all it was ok, I probably won’t read another, but I think with more writing time this author could really be great.

I just can't...

Juvenile writing at its finest. Poorly written, poorly edited with a poorly executed plotline. Too much unnecessary internal dialogue. Did not finish. I give up.

This story was okay. It's kind of a run of the mill rejected mates story. There were times that I thought the story dragged, and I skimmed over quite a few pages until I got to the end.
It's not a terrible story, just a little longer than it needed to be. It's a fairly quick read and is available on Kindle Unlimited.

What situation would cause lots of drama? Cool, let's have that happen next!

MCs are passionate, but often make frustrating decisions due to peer pressure, assumptions, fear, etc. Sometimes the scene abruptly changes, but typically easy to follow along. There's a cute epilogue chapter.

DNF'd after the sample...
It's seems like this is the first, maybe second draft... and it's written in a, stream of consciousness, kind of matter. At least it reads like it. And it need a heavy good time of editing, maybe even developmental editing.

(Came back to tell you who reads my review, that I now know why this book is so poorly done... the author spits out a new book once a month, so this is why it's not edited and it's published as one of the first drafts...)

My notes: (And I didn't even write down every issue, and this is only the sample, remember than...)

The word toys were mention quiet often. If was very noticeable. And the whole toy thing indicated they were very poor, but that got ruined later by the boy grabbing a big backpack of toys. Then that toy wasn't that important, right...

Then the story seemed messy at the explanation of the tattoo. There were no indication in the first place that she had an tattoo.

(I put my ear to the ground, listening keenly to try and count the number of steps coming in my direction. I heard two, then four, then six. Three Blackwood shifters after me.) Where is the person who punch her a second ago?

(I didn’t think they knew he was hiding—that was good. But I had to keep it that way.) Sister... you could smell shifters. Don't you think the other shifter can smell you and your kid as well?????

(When one of the shifters moved forward to check my vitals, I drove a broken branch straight into his jugular in a quick thrust, causing blood to spray out until he collapsed.) What? He didn't even scream? Nobody did anything before he lost so much blood that he past out? What.... this sounds so unrealistic... and he didn’t do anything to stop her for searching for this branch?

(Not long after, one of their claws connected with my arm, ripping into my flesh.) Not long after? I think it's the wrong words to use here.

(Crying out in pain, I clutched my bleeding arm, trying to evade another blow, but I felt a sharp pain as another of their extended claws drove deep into my abdomen.) Oh, so she can scream and she doesn't pass out? I thought THEY were stronger than her, her own words.

(They didn’t give me a moment to recuperate as one of the Blackwood shifters, the one who had been trying to see if I was still alive, sent a blow right into my face, which sent me to the ground.) What?

(My body was weak, but my healing abilities were kicking in slowly. However, they weren’t letting up.) Why doesn't she shift if she's a shifter??

(It was Roger, the lowlife regular at the pub where I worked. There was nothing regular about him. Sure, he was still a lowlife, but those extended claws and fangs showed that there was a lot more to him than I had seen before.) She could smell shifters in the woods a few pages ago. But her regular customer she couldn’t smell was not human???

(Usually, wolf shifters could identify themselves even in a crowd. They had a scent. But for some reason, in the two years that I had worked at the pub, I never caught a hint of anything that told me that Rogers was a werewolf.) This seems like a lame excuse. Did he use a witch as well? Ehy did the Blackwood pack not use a witch to search for her?

(My bones began to crack and realign, reshaping into my primal form. My fingers and toes stretched into sharp claws, and my skin gave way to my thick white fur.) So she was a shifter.

The last part of chapter 1 was a mess. It's the weakest shifters I have ever heard off. They just stood still while she killed them??? Whaaaat...

Chapter 2 is a mess too, I'm not gonna write down all my notes here....

(Speaking in an undertone, I asked, “Rowan, west of you, do you see anything?” Five seconds passed then I heard his response, equally in a low voice. “No. But…I just saw something move…”) "did you see something?" "No, but I saw something" what.???

(its tusks gleaming in the low light.) Gleaming?? Tusks are matt...

(“So, a wolf did this to her?” My jaws clenched.) They should be able to smell this and who.... they are wolves ffs...

(She nodded. “From the different claw marks, more than one.”) so the multiple dead wolf shifter laying around her when they found her were not indicater enough? She passed out so I don't believe she moved away from that spot.

(Her once long hair was now cut up to her shoulders, though its color was just as it had been: whitish blonde with a few streaks of black.) What?! Now it has black streaks in it?

(Lyra had fled the pack when she was a teenager, and I knew time and hardship would change her.) The math is not mathing. She fled the pack? But it's only 5-6 years since they saw each other and they did the nasty...

(Her lips, which once had curved in a wistful smile even while she was asleep, were now set in a neutral line, as though life had stolen her laughter.) Smile while sleeping? When you sleep your muscles relax though.

(She whipped her head in the direction of my voice and the second her eyes landed on me, they grew wide with recognition. It was as though seeing me triggered something in her as she was ready to jump right out of bed if not for the pain in her side that held her back and caused her to fall back, groaning.) This should have been her POV or it should have been written differently.

(“Hey, hey, hey, take it easy,” I moved closer to her, reaching for her arm to help but she flinched, pulling away from me as though I had a disease. I deserved that.) Did he? What did he do?

(I tore my eyes away from Lyra, and without giving the healer a second glance, I stood up and walked out of the room. I knew where I was headed. This wasn’t like the day before, or several days before that, when I had ended up in the bar to try to forget about something that pierced me so deeply.) Wauw.. this was confusing...

The writing is pretty bad. The plot jumps around a lot. Lyra is working at a diner, she has a kid. She was rejected by her mate and also kidnapped and escaped all before the book started. So much happened in the past that I actually stopped and double checked that this was book 1.

Then she gets attacked. Then her kid is running from a boat. Then her rejected mate finds her kid and rescues her. But she’s poisoned. Never mind, she’s cured. Her mate tricks her into seeing a witch who binds her to the territory. Now he’s marrying someone else. Oops no, he left that chick at the altar. Now he’s confessing his love to Lyra.

She lives with the pack now. Her best friend hates her. A jaguar attacks Kaine. Now there’s a council meeting and the elders hate Lyra for leaving even though she was rejected by Kaine because it’s apparently the tradition in his family. Now Lyra has to undergo some kind of humiliating ritual to be allowed back. People taunt and abuse her, but it’s her fault for some reason.

We find out that if she hadn’t fled, her pack would force her to kill her baby. For some reason Kaine is angry she didn’t tell him about his kid, even though the baby would have been killed. Or maybe not, because they talk about how she would have tied him to her. Or maybe yes, because she had no choice.

Listen… who knows. This book is just a random litany of stuff. None of it really connects together. Turn the page and something completely different is going to happen.

This book has a lot of potential, but also needs a lot of help. There were so many editing issue, plus it felt more like a rough draft than an actual completed book.

There were so many editing/grammatical issues, starting with the very first paragraph.

Is his name Roger or Rogers? Both were used.

Misspelled word, trunk rather than truck, like 6 times in the first paragraph. Seriously? Nobody did a proofread?

There were missing quotation marks, and so many other problems that I just stopped keeping track of them all.

Story-wise, there was potential. And yet, the writing was very flat and boring. There were no emotions, and I couldn't feel any connections with any of the characters at all. None of them really had any personality, and none of them grew at all.

My biggest peeve with this is that he rejected her and humiliated her, and then all he had to do years later was apologize, and that's it?! No! What a sniveling POS. And then Lyra just takes the apology and because she is horny she just jumps into bed with him right away. These people deserve each other.

I read in another review something that sums up everything quite nicely. If this book was a color, it would be beige. Bland and boring. I would not read this again and I will not recommend it to anyone. There is no depth to anything anywhere.

Alpha’s Runaway Mate

This book is along the same lines of mate gets rejected by the Alpha then she runs away because she’s so upset. She then finds out she’s pregnant. But that’s where this story diverges from the standard rejected mate story. As the story unfolds you find that there were forces at play that they couldn’t have known about that caused the alpha’s rejection. People in the background that appear as friends that are pulling strings for their own benefit. Outdated laws that turn the pack against Lyra, the FMC, even after she is back in the pack. Secrets that were kept that shouldn’t have been because it ended up blindsiding them and left them defenseless.
I really like the fact that Lyra doesn’t just fall back into Kaine’s, the MMC’s, arms simply because they are fated mates, even though the pull is strong and hard for both of them to resist, she is steadfast in her resolve to stay away due to the things she endured once she left. I stayed up way too late reading this book, it was well worth it to reach Kaine and Lyra’s HEA, but the path there was full of treachery and deception.

All in all it’s a great recipe for an interesting story.

Jennifer Eve’s Alpha's Runaway Mate delivers a rollercoaster of emotion, passion, and fierce determination, making it impossible to put down. From the very first line, I was drawn into the protagonist’s pain and strength as she navigates a treacherous world filled with betrayal, heartbreak, and an undeniable bond she can’t escape.

The story beautifully balances raw vulnerability with unyielding resolve. Six years ago, her mate chose duty over love, shattering her world. Her journey of survival—from enduring captivity to escaping and raising a child in secret—is both harrowing and inspiring. I felt every ounce of her anger and protective love, especially when fate cruelly brings her back to the man who abandoned her.

The tension between them crackles with intensity. His regret feels genuine, but her mistrust is palpable and justified. I loved watching her stand her ground, refusing to let her pain and past define her, all while protecting her child from the world’s dangers.

What sets this book apart is its exploration of second chances and the fight for self-worth. The protagonist’s emotional journey is deeply empowering, showing that love—especially fated love—must be earned, not demanded.

With a compelling plot, powerful characters, and a romance that burns slow and deep, Alpha's Runaway Mate is a must-read for fans of high-stakes werewolf romance. Jennifer Eve weaves a tale of redemption, strength, and the unbreakable bond between a mother and her child, leaving you breathless until the very last page.

About six years ago, Lyra ran away from her mate and her pack when her mate denied her. She's had a rough six years. Shortly after running...and discovering she was pregnant....she was taken prisoner by the Blackwoods pack. After 8 months of unimaginable torture, she escapes to a small town where she works as a waitress in a bar. Now her past is about to catch up to her. She ends up back with her mate, the alpha in Crescent Valley, Kaine, and he doesn't know about Leo, her son...and his son. Back to a pack that detests her for "running", a best friend who suddenly is extremely hostile, and a mate who denied her. She is stuck in a place where she isn't wanted.

A story of heartbreak, betrayal, loneliness, violence, revenge and secrets involving a relationship that should have been the total opposite. Kaine and Lyra should have had love, trust, happiness and joy. Is it too late to regain what they lost? Can the Moon Goddess and fate return their relationship to what should have been?

Fated mates second chance

An action packed shifter second chance romance, with drama, action, betrayal, discovery, magic, love and a HEA.

Lyra and Kaine are fated mates and were happy together until the day Kaine was to become the pack Alpha when he also rejected her. Hurt and confused she ran from the pack but found herself needing the protection of a witches spell. Years later her protection goes and she has to run a second time, only this time she has her son with her and when they are attacked she's rescued by Kaine.

When Kaine sees a little boy being chased by a boar he instinctively helps and then goes to help the boy's mother as well; never expecting her to be his fated mate who he'd rejected years before. He'd never forgotten her and hopes he might be able to regain her trust and have a second chance at happiness. But there are some in the pack who aren't happy about the situation, and another pack are still after Lyra.

Lyra is a wolf who has been on the run for six years. She was rejected by her mate and found out after she ran that she was having his baby. Now she finds herself running again. Only this time she is in her old pack territory.
Kaine is the alpha of a pack. He took it over after his father died. The only regret he had was rejecting his mate. He's hoped she'd return or he would find her. Then one day he does.
Lyra kept the baby secret for years and Kaine is upset when he finds out the child is his. But he also knows that he was in the wrong when he tried to do what his father wanted. Now he has to work at her trusting him again. Only this time she comes with danger..to herself, her son and the pack. Will they be able to overcome the challenges that face them to find a happy ending? Or will it go up in flames and blood?
A moving and highly emotional story.

Wow so many twists and turns in this story I was gripped through the whole book.
Lyra was rejected by Kaine the next alpha in their pack and her fated mate, 6 years later and she's been in hiding with her son. When the spell protecting their location disappears Lyra has to run again but she's out of time.
Fate brings Kaine back into Lyra's life just when she needs the help. Can they fight the forces manipulating people to keep them apart or will they believe the wrong people?

Absolutely brilliant read, I wish I could read it for the first time over again.

Lyra is on the run, she has a big secret and can’t afford for it to get out. She works as a waitress and works hard to take care of her and her son.
Kaine is an Alpha who has to do what is best for his pack, no matter what. He made a promise to his father that he would marry the best female for the pack, no emotions allowed to be used. He has been heartbroken for 6 years after rejecting his fated mate and her leaving.
Story is amazing, characters are great, a great read that once I started reading I couldn’t put it down till it was over.
Great read, grab it, you won’t regret grabbing it!

Lyra and Kaine‘s story is a redemption tale. One as old as time, where fate has dealt them a hand that is impossible to win, so they are blown apart, only to come together 6 years later and it’s an explosive reunion! The story is well written, but lags in a few places, then picks up again and ends with a massive fight scene and a happily ever after. The characters are multifaceted and you don’t see the deceit from 2 of them coming ! It could use a bit of better proofreading/editing but it only impacts the story a bit. I give this 4✨’s.

Lyra (FMC) runs away from her pack after being rejected and humiliated in front of the pack by Kaine. Only for years later with her surviving on her own with her son - Leo, she's forced to return to her old pack. They were not as welcoming to both of them. With them both having to navigate a hostile environment with sly and underhand people all pulling the strings.

This book was definitely a different take on the rejected mates genre and I really liked that. The plot twists were brilliant and it certainly kept me gripped from start to finish. Loved it.

This was a quick read with lots of twists and turns that kept me engaged. As this is essentially a standalone, I'd like to have learned exactly what Lyra's hybrid status actually meant. Because the next book appears to be about a couple from another pack, I guess that question will remain unanswered.

Unfortunately, the reason for the 3-star rating is the poor editing, as well as numerous grammatical and spelling errors. I hate to see a book with promise tarnished when a good proofreader could have made a huge difference.

Jealousy is a disease…

It’s a disease that warps your brain. And it leads to betrayal and pain. The FL has a bestie that isn’t the mate. But she thinks that she should get the guy just because. And since she isn’t the mate and the ML goes for the FL, the bestie betrays her and basically sells her off to the bad guys.

It’s always the bestie turning into a monster, isn’t it?

Not bad at all. I really enjoyed this one. It’s not a real fast read, but it was pretty interesting. Above average so it gets four stars…

KU read.

Disappointing

This book was a real let down. It was filled with misspellings that constantly took me from the story line. The story line itself was scattered and rushed. The characters were underdeveloped, The main female character was whiny and an absolute push over. There was no real back story that made any sense. The whole thing was a let down. By half way I started to skim the book just to finish it. Glad I got it as free read on Kindle. Would be insisting on my money back if it had not been free.
