Energy Management for Writers: A Gamified Approach To Recovery and Sustainability

Rate this book
When you burn out, and you need to think about recovery, everyone approaches the process of recovering with a slightly different strategy. Given that we still need to write, we still need to work, and we still need to have relationships, we can't just throw all our time into this recovery.

So how do we manage it?

Awareness and grace. And if that's all you need to know about the recovery process, then you don't need this book. But if you do need it, feel free to pick it up and I hope it will help you.

This book is basically a guide that goes with a deck of cards they made for the kickstarter.

It is full of Becca advice in the Becca voice - like this:

CAVEAT: I am not one of those people who thinks you should say things you’re grateful for when you don’t actually feel the gratitude. If you don’t feel grateful for anything, wait until you do. Don’t say things out loud you don’t mean, or admit to emotions you don’t feel. That’s not helpful. (p. 195).

yes, that’s what I feel like, too…

Very basic, common sense advice at its core. Nothing I haven't already heard. The gamifying aspect is unique. I'm not a game person so found the idea of gamifying just adding another unnecessarily complicated to-do in an already too long to-do list. However, if you like gamifying tasks and that helps you work better - then you'll probably love this.

I enjoyed this book and I really resonate with Becca Syme’s approach to writing and creativity. As a low vigilance/intuitive person I’m not sure how I’ll use this book in the future, but I’m glad I have it in my toolbox.

a really useful look at specific tasks that either drain or empower you.... the main goal being to help you avoid burnout. I always ALWAYS love and resonate with Becca's work.
