mild spoilers, not about the plot.

Glad it's over. I didn't like Callie this time. She was annoying, whiney and clueless. She was like one of those people in movies that announce to a killer that they know all about them and are about to call the police, all while having a gun already pointed at them.

She goes off and leaves her brother again. Michael seemed jealous that she was in contact with Blake, and in the last book it seemed like they were maybe more than friends, but near the end she ...more

Another lame YA dystopia series, at least this one was just a duology instead of a long series that never ended.

What's what: The Spore Wars killed everyone apart from the very old and young. Most kids left without parents and live on the streets. Evul company Prime Destinations (run by the Old Man) using and abusing vulnerable teenagers so their bodies can be temporarily taken over by the old who want to feel young again. Typical YA Mary Sue, Callie, took down Prime Destinations, and now Spoilers

What's what: The Spore Wars killed everyone apart from the very old and young. Most kids left without parents and live on the streets. Evul company Prime Destinations (run by the Old Man) using and abusing vulnerable teenagers so their bodies can be temporarily taken over by the old who want to feel young again. Typical YA Mary Sue, Callie, took down Prime Destinations, and now has to find the Old Man and take him down as well.

-Callie was TSTL, I hated her. She constantly did things that put herself in danger. She used to live on the streets and had to survive all sorts so she really shouldn't have been such a wide eyed idiot, how was she so dumb when she was supposed to be street smart?
She irritated me especially when she kept palming off her little brother to her doormat best friend (Michael) every chance she got. For someone that was meant to love her brother she jumped at any chance to dump him with someone else just so she could play hero.

-The world building was still weak and nonsensical. The fact that only old people and children were vaccinated when the war happened was dumb. Why would any government do that? Sure, they'd save children but if they had a limited supply of vaccines then they'd save the younger adults and middled aged people as they'd contribute more to society. Not to mention they'd be able to look after their kids. Why would they save an elderly person over a 20-50 year old with kids and useful skills? Yea, I didn't buy it.
It's difficult to enjoy a dystopia world when you can barely believe the foundation and fundamentals surrounding it.

-The Enders lost their adult children and family in the Spore Wars… So wouldn't that make them more grateful for their grandchildren and the other orphaned children who survived? Wouldn't they try to help, look after, and support them instead of resenting them and letting them starve and be homeless? Why would pretty much all the old people who suffered such loss be so cruel to orphaned kids and the future generation?

-I hated how the most important people in Callie's life were all guys (Tyler, Michael, Hyden, her dad, the Old Man). She had no strong female relationships and had very little interaction with female characters in comparison to male. I hate heroines like that, especially in YA books.

-The romance was weird, nothing was really resolved. Michael loved Callie in the first book but in this one that was barely addressed, and Hyden had done nothing but manipulate and lie to Callie but the idiot forgave him after five minutes. Ugh.

-There was a strong preachy vibe throughout which annoyed me. At times it was like an after school special — beauty isn't everything, family is most important, it's wrong to lie and be evul blah blah blah. If an author wants to send a message then they really should write it more subtlety because otherwise it's like being lectured about the bloody obvious.

Not the worst dystopia I've ever read, there were a few parts that were mildly entertaining but the majority was pretty much rubbish.

Starters is one of the best dystopian books ever written and so, Enders had a tough act to follow. I was also a bit worried because it had been so long since I had read Starters (I read it in Feb '12). Enders functions brilliantly as both a sequel and a series conclusion; I'm even 100% convinced that Enders is even better than Starters. I'm really going to miss reading the Starters And Enders series and I know I will be re-reading this series years from now.

Finally finished with this series! This is the second book in the duo-logy, the first book is Starters. I did not enjoy this but I did feel like it was a little bit better compared to Starters. But when I was going to rate this book a little higher, I realized that the main character was so annoying and how I just didn't enjoy it. So I decided to rate this book 2 stars.

There is one thing I know for sure and that is the fact that this book isn't for me. It was never enjoyable when I read it and Finally finished with this series! This is the second book in the duo-logy, the first book is Starters. I did not enjoy this but I did feel like it was a little bit better compared to Starters. But when I was going to rate this book a little higher, I realized that the main character was so annoying and how I just didn't enjoy it. So I decided to rate this book 2 stars.

There is one thing I know for sure and that is the fact that this book isn't for me. It was never enjoyable when I read it and I was so bored, even if there was so much action. I don't know why I didn't like this book, I just felt bored when I read this book. Maybe it was because of the mood I was in, I was watching one of Katytastic's videos and she explained how she might not be able to enjoy a book as much if she isn't in the right mood or comfortable. I think that might be one of the reasons why I didn't enjoy this book.

Another major issue was the characters in this book. I was so annoyed with the main character and her decisions and I felt really bad for all the people who cared about her. Callie was really annoying and she could be selfish at times. I mean, don't get me wrong, but I feel like she is so naive and doesn't understand relationships and responsibilities. I feel like Callie instantly trusts every one she meets and acts like she doesn't trust them when she really does. I really love Tyler and Micheal is so nice and I feel like Callie uses Micheal a lot. I don't like Hyden either, ugh.

The huge plot twist was something that I guessed from the beginning and got right. I hate when I predict something about the plot in a book and I turn out to be right. I love being wrong about the plot twists in books because I like to be surprised and shocked. But I saw the plot twist coming from the beginning of the book.

Although the book was fast-paced and there was a lot of acion, I did not enjoy this. This book wasn't for me and I only finished this series because there was only one book left. The writing style was nice and smooth but I really wish that Callie's character would've developed, I feel like she never changed a bit. Even though I didn't enjoy this book, you guys might, so check the series out if you want, but all I'm gonna say is that I did not enjoy it... ...more

Enders (Starters #2) by Lissa Price is book two and I didn't read book one and did okay but it did refer to some things in book one I didn't know. It wasn't enough to hinder the story. I would say it could be a stand alone. I really liked this book. Poor people could get chips in their head and rich people could rent their bodies, taking over with the rich mind. I found this book predictable and boring.

The idea was really good!! It was getting some where at some point but as I kept on reading it became predictable. I didn't feel connected to any character, didn't even get to know them very well... And Callie was soooo simple and plain.

I felt like much of this book was wasted on things that didn't matter.

And the end... Was so rush I couldn't even enjoy it, it felt like the writer was bored with the story and just wanted to end it fast.

It's hard to rate something that you didn't like because it wasn't what you expected. Every new plot element in Enders had me wondering why the author chose to go in that direction. It's like every other chapter the author decided to change the direction of the plot. I felt the same way about the last Harry Potter book. The previous installment indicated we would be looking for horcruxes, what is this hallow nonsense? Same thing here.

Let's start with the relationships. To begin with I 2.5 stars
It's hard to rate something that you didn't like because it wasn't what you expected. Every new plot element in Enders had me wondering why the author chose to go in that direction. It's like every other chapter the author decided to change the direction of the plot. I felt the same way about the last Harry Potter book. The previous installment indicated we would be looking for horcruxes, what is this hallow nonsense? Same thing here.

Let's start with the relationships. To begin with I don't like Callie's relationship with Michael. They are jealous when they are with other people, but don't have romantic feelings towards each other? Callie also feels the need to protect her brother, but keeps failing at it. I guess I can see why leaving him alone practically the entire series could be in his best interest, but it is very weird. Our main character's main motivation is to build a steady home for her brother, yet everything she does works against that. Then there is Blake that thinks he should have feelings for Callie because he was smiling in a picture once. We open with an awkward moment with them kissing and Callie not feeling anything. This new Blake is pretty much a shallow teenage idiot, and he seems pushy and uninteresting. He learns he's in danger and about what's really going on and then poof he's gone, and we don't care about him anymore. Then there's a new boy who kidnaps Callie, and of course she's kissing him even though she doesn't agree with what's going on. I swear, every "kissing" scene in this entire series is awkward. There is not a drop of romance here, and it's all rather creepy.

Abrupt plot change #2 went from focusing on removing a chip to all of the sudden bringing the body donors to one location. Yes, that makes a ton of sense, bring them all to one place so they are easier to capture. Then plot change #3 more kidnapping, some experiments, and an escape. Plot change 4, new kidnapping and creepy world leaders making someone take their clothes off...

I really wish this series was written by someone else. I would love for someone to say here's the idea: in the future people are living to a much older age and they can inhabit the bodies of young people, now make a story. I don't know how many people would come up with this. The Spore War that doesn't really affect anything in the long run, random disjointed characters, abrupt plot changes, and people running around with really no idea what to do and serving little purpose. At least the first book had a general goal in mind, and came close to wrapping up nicely. Then the author said wait let's cut off the last chapter of that, make it open ended, and have the characters do a bunch of random stuff in the next book! Callie was a huge problem for me. She's annoying. She's whiny. Get with the program girl, the moment you signed yourself off to Prime Destinations you knew things were going to be very different. What's the point of crying over what you lost? I wasn't overly fond of the way everyone wanted Callie. She's nothing special. Just a girl with a chip which just so happened to malfunction or evolve, really. A whiny, selfish incompetent little girl. Granted that what happened to her chip was interesting but...Callie. Yeah. How is it possible to like a character who says "I don't talk to liars, you lying liar." Couldn't she have come up with something smarter? Such eloquence, Callie.

And can we just talk about Callie's boys? And the romance too, since they are intertwined. I don't get what those boys see in her, I really don't. And the romance was a little too forced. I mean the story would have progressed fine without it and would probably have been better so the focus would be on the actual story instead of Callie whining about Blake and what-ifs.

The story. Here's the thing - Enders is confusing as hell. The so called twists to the plotline had me rolling my eyes. And while there're more action scenes in this book I could have done without them because they were poorly crafted. I still don't get why all the Middles are dead. I mean yes they were killed in the Spore Wars but...how and why exactly? Why target Middles? Well, it was probably used to explain away the absence of the adults which is pretty convenient. Yeah.

If you're looking for dystopian, sci-fi books you're better off looking elsewhere to get your sci-fi fix, like Insignia by S.J. Kincaid perhaps. I'm sorry Enders, one rainbow for you. ...more

This was a really quick read, and very action-packed. I loved it. But the ending disappointed me a lot, which brought the rating down a lot. But it still is a really good YA SciFi duology that I highly recommend if you like this genre!

This novel pulled me in and kept my attention to the very last page. Sequels are perhaps the hardest novels to write in a trilogy, but Price did an amazing job with Enders and I actually enjoyed in more than the first book in the series, Starters. I finally figured out what's wrong with it: that it's written like a movie script. Entire book consists only in dialogues, there is no depth in neither structure or characters. It is just an array of events. Yes, it is kind of a page turner, but it lacks any sort of emotion.

However, as I said at the previous volume, it is entertaining enough to be read as a way of spending some time relaxing.

-Bonus Content: With the pre order, I got cards, bookmarks, a pin, a handwritten letter, a signed copy, and an amazing time. I wholly don't regret the extra wait, even though I died a bit every day haha!
-Twists: Lissa Price never, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever fails to make your jaw drop. I had to reread a certain sequence about twelve times to make sure I wasn't hallucinating. It totally turned everything I read upside down and made my adrenals go nuts. In other words, Lissa Price PROS

-Twists: Lissa Price never, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever fails to make your jaw drop. I had to reread a certain sequence about twelve times to make sure I wasn't hallucinating. In other words, Lissa Price convinced my body that I was in the presence of terror using just paper, ink, and that ocean of imagination :)
-Enthralling: I read this in one sitting, and Ive never done that before!
-World building Finesse: You definitely get the feel of society without it being told excessively to used frivolously.
-Gray Morality: Lissa, on top of throwing curveballs every 50 pages or so, she is a master at painting a spectrum of characters that don't exactly fit into neat little moral boxes. She is a very mature writer and a pleasure to read :)
-The love motif: This series is able to introduce romantic conflict without degrading into a formulaic him or him dilemma that plagues too many a "hypotenuse" character in the YA (particularly YA sci fi/fantasy) genre. This, again, is a testament to how mature the book is. No cookie cutter love stories here, but there is plenty of interpersonal conflict that's fun to read, serves a purpose to the characters, and isn't cheap. Also, it totally beats out Cassandra Clare's love twist of the Mortal Instrument Series in terms of jaw-droppingness, and I will say no more.
-The Ending!: One of the best endings to a series ever. I won't spoil anything, but I will say you get closure, but she does leave the door open just a crack, allowing for the possibility to further explore this dystopia, without it feeling necessary.

CONS
-Pace: I will say the pacing wasn't as good as the Starters. I thought the beginning moved slower, here. However, I will say that the climax of Enders definitely eclipsed Starters!

OVERALL
Lissa Price is one of my favorite authors ever and has a been a pleasure to read. Starters and Enders will always have a meaningful place in my heart and bookshelf and I can't wait to share this story with my fellow bookworms. What are you doing!??! This book is/was worth the wait. I couldn't understand why Lissa Price (her publishers doing, I imagine) kept pushing out the release date. However, now that I have finished reading this literary cocktail I'm so glad I did. I'm rather sad that it's over as most books are when you've finished them. This book left me thinking about it far past the day I finished and I realized I grew quite attached...

I can't say I didn't enjoy the book but Starters was definitely better than Enders. Having read a few reviews from other readers, i couldn't agree less with the points they have given. >It felt like the good parts of the book were shown up to the few last 40 to 50 pages...too bad..I wonder why Price would cramp everything up
>Just like what the other readers feel, the connection between some of the characters we were hoping to connect with or to see the development in the story were not executed properly or rather were just merely ignored throughout the book (Michael, Tyler, yes Hyden too) It felt like they were just pieces of toys or designs set to make the story a little bit more interesting...their characters weren't used to their maximum potential let alone being able to get something out of them

Since Prime Destinations has been destroyed, Callie no longer has to rent her body out, but others can still get in an control her (along with other chipped teens) and force her to do anything they want. If she has the chip removed, she'll be safe, but she'll no longer be able to hear the voice in her head that may very well belong to her father. To top it all off, Callie has been flashing back to Helena's, her old renter's, memories, and the Old Man is back in the game. To top it all off, Callie has been flashing back to Helena's, her old renter's, memories, and the Old Man is back in the game. No one is who they seem to be, but Callie is determined to discover the truth with the hope that she and her brother someday may be able to live normal lives.

I really enjoyed Starters, the first book in the series, when I read it back in 2014 - it was so different and had a great hook. Unfortunately, I didn't like the sequel quite as much. It seemed halfhearted, Callie made a lot of dumb decisions, and the romance just got weird. As for the halfheartedness, I'm not sure if it seemed that way to me because I listened to the audiobook and the production wasn't the greatest or that the story just didn't have as interesting of a hook of the first novel.

I also had more issues with Callie in this installment. She's supposed to be very street smart, at least in the first book, but here there is no sign of that. She's constantly making exceedingly dumb decisions that could have resulted in bodily injury or death. She also says she wants to provide a better life for her brother, but she personally doesn't do all that much for him this time around since she's constantly handing him off to someone else. In regards to the romance, Michael essentially drops off the map and seems to be replaced partially by Blake and primarily by Hayden. Hayden, the Old Man's son, Hayden who lies to her and manipulates her. For some reason Callie forgives him and seems to trust him although he's incredibly shady and has tons of ulterior motives.

All of this doesn't mean to say that I hated it. The book was still good, but just not as good as I was hoping it could have been. The action is done well and it's a good fast-paced thriller with lots of good twists and turns. It also has a decent resolution. I read Starters a while ago, so I jumped into Enders with not remembering much about the world except that Prime Destinations were a controlling crazy "company." Glad to find out that it didn't take too much to remember who was who and what was happening. No one is who they seem to be. The sequel to Starters did not disappoint! . I've read some dystopian series that have pretty disappointing endings - although I still love them - like say, Allegiant and Requiem.

It's gripping and fast-paced just like it's predecessor and will leave you on the edge.

Since it had been over a year since I read the first book in this set, Starters, I decided to do a re-read before jumping into Enders so I wouldn't have any problems connecting all the little pieces. However, the author did a good amount of recapping at the beginning so I probably would have been fine without the re-read but it got me back into the world and mindset so I'm still glad I did.

This was a wonderfully written book! The minor plot twists in the beginning escalated to bigger and greater plot twists closer to the end. Lissa Price wrote a very original, suspenseful science-fiction book. The original plot about the future made this book and the first book in this series, "Starters," stand out from the pack.
