First of all, let me just tell straight off that THIS book is different, bold, unconventional and poignant tale, about friendship, love, sacrifice and mostly about the shit that life throws our way.

The blurb of this book is the perfect description of the story without actually giving too much away. I really think this story is the kind of stories that the less you know, the more you will love it. That said, i'm not going to rehash the story for you guys, thats for you to find ou

I’m an avid reader, I read a lot of genres, and a ton of books. Sure, I have my favorites - but I like to branch out and discover new authors/styles/types of books whenever I can. I absolutely love when a book surprises me, when it sweeps me off my feet, leaving me breathless and wanting more. Working Girl was just that for me, a surprise, an enigma, a heartbreaking book that touched me, haunted me and captivated me from the very beginning. I got lost in this story, fell in love with the charac

I was easily pulled into Working Girl and like others found it immensly sad. I absolutely adored the relationship between Presley and her mum. Also her relationship with Chrissy was a breath of fresh air, two opposites attracting.

I can't not say anything about Emerson, oh boy he's an Angel, I defy anyone woman to not fall for him or any man to not respect him (that one was for you Rob ☺ ) He was in fact the perfect Ying to Presley's Yang.

I do have one niggle though, as much as I absolutely loved

Working Girl is the second book that I have read by A. E. Woodward. This book was so different then the first book I read. This was a really enjoyable read. The storyline was different from anything I have read. The writing I thought was really great, it was smooth and flowed well. I thought the author also created interesting characters and that they were extremely relatable.

I do not even know how to start this review! There is so much I want to say and so much I need to keep my big mouth shut about. I want to tell you every wonderfully written detail and how much it touched me! I want to tell you every emotion I went through as I read this book. I want to show you every happy, sad, funny and downright angry message I sent to the author as I stayed up way past my personal bedtime devouring this story! But alas if I do all that what will be the point of you reading i ...more

“Life is meant to be scary…But you’ve gotta take the chance every now and then”

Presley Adams hasn't had an easy life her mother was a prostitute. She hates the life she has been dealt, but she deals with it. She is doing all she can try and live a normal life, and not follow in her mother's footsteps. She's a fighter; she’s independent, but at the same time there is still a vulnerability about her. Working Girl was about Presley, a 21 year old living in Vegas with her mom and trying to make ends meet. Her mom is a working girl at a brothel that Presley works at as the bookkeeper, but it’s no secret that her boss Big Earl wants her to join his other girls as a prostitute. Presley’s best friend, Chrissy, also works at the brothel, but unlike Presley she’s okay with being a prostitute. The beginning of this book found Presley finally being able to go to college where she meets Emers

I read this book with a lump in my throat. It was so desperately sad. I wanted to be the white knight on the big charger taking Presley into the sunlight. I wanted to kiss away her tears and wash away the dirt and grime. But, like Presley, I was powerless.

Emerson was the knight. He was Presley’s champion, her saviour. Fighting his own black cloud he recognised, in Presley, another tortured soul. He was a genuine good guy, a true hero.

When is a secret a secret that should be shared? When you’re i

This book had some really tough spots for me. I had to put the book down and walk away. Then I came back and am happy I decided to finish it!!!

Presley has had a rough life. She is not proud of her life. She tries to hide it because she has seen how it affects the way people think about her. She tries to push Emerson away when he shows interest in her, but he is relentless. No matter how much of a bit** she is to him. Can she trust him? Is he only after her for one thing? Or is his int

I was gifted an ARC of Working Girl in exchange for a review. Let me just say that first and foremost I was incredibly excited to be able to read this book. I fell in love with AE Woodward as an author when I read her other book, "Kismet". Once again, she does not disappoint. She has definitely outdone herself.

This is one book you'll want to add to your "To Be Read" list *NOW*!!!

Working Girl by A.E. Woodward

I really wasn’t sure what to expect when I started reading this book. It was nothing like my original impression. I felt just about every emotion imaginable while reading this story. While I truly loved this story, several times I felt as if I had been slapped in the face and my heart had been ripped out. I actually put down the book for a few days so I could let my heart heal a bit! I loved the two main characters Presley and Emerson and I think everyone should have

In this book you see Presley, struggling to find out who she is, she's determent she's not going to follow in her mum's footsteps but sometimes life has other plans. When she meets Emerson in her bookkeeping class, he knew that he had to get to know her but Presley wasn't having any of it. She was embarrassed and scared people were going to hold it against her.

But he didn't give up, He taught her to leave the past in the past, How to love and all men wasn't scu

OK, so I just finished and I am not really quite sure how I feel. I truly was enjoying the book up until the Big Earl "initiation" part and after that, hmmmm, threw me WAY off kilter..... The latter half of the book didn't give me the pick me up I needed after that and well the epilogue, hmmmm, ok it couldn't have ended with a definite answer???? I don't know I enjoyed first half but my personal feelings about the incident and from then on just didn't get me back onboard.......I hate

I have been lucky enough to be a beta reader for this book from the beginning. A.E. Woodward does an amazing job drawing the reader in. I connected with Presley right away. Although her life is nothing like mine the emotions she experiences are ones a lot of readers will be able to relate with. This is not a book you want to miss. In my opinion this is the author's best book yet!

What a book and what a life these characters had! How two completely different people fall in love and fight for one another is such a beautiful thing to read. Great story that in the end gives you the warm fuzzies.

Working Girl was by far one of the best books I have read this year. I would give it a 5 stars! It's not your typical sappy love story but it has so much more depth. You will get so much angst, devastation, mystery and love and you will feel so much sorrow for Presley. I wasn't completely convinced that I would like this book by reading the blurb and well the name but damn I was so wrong. I have been a fan of A.E. Woodard for a while and will continue to follow her journey as a writer. I feel she ...more

The neon lights and glitz of Las Vegas have done nothing but bring darkness into Presley’s world. Presley didn’t have a picture perfect childhood or a normal adolescence. She grew up in an environment that no young girl should be subjected to. Sex, alcohol, drugs, and the broken dreams and souls of countless women…that was Presley’s reality.

Presley lived a life that was completely unimaginable for most people. Her mother was a prostitute and she grew up with a brothel as her ‘Home Sweet Home’. S

I'm trying to figure out how to write a review for this book. It was a gritty read, with very little glamorization of the world Presley lived in, but still had a sweet romantic aspect to it. If you're wondering what I mean, think on the lines of "Pretty Woman" but different, harsher.

I really liked Presley. She had goals and dreams, and was making them come true. I also liked how she and her best friend Chrissy loved and supported each other, even doing things that went against the grain of their

I hated that Presley had to go through so much, she was a young woman that deserved a life that wasn't tainted by so much ugly and hurt, no one should ever have to live through the things that she did. I'm so happy that she had her best friend Chrissy and Emerson to help guide her out of the cold darkness threatening to swallow her.

Can you imagine a more confusing, lonely and scary world than growing up in a brothel in Sin City (Las Vegas) itself? For Presley, that is exactly what her life as been like.

Hindered by the thoughts of what her life may turn out to be, scared that she is destined to be trapped by the environment of her mother, Presley dreams and she dreams big. She wants to go to college. She wants a life outside the brothel. She does not want to become just another working girl.

Working Girl was a very good read. It has a little different storyline. It's told in the dual POVs of Emerson and Presley. Both Emerson and Presley have interesting lives. Presley has grown up and a brothel, where her mom works. Presley has high hopes that she will not end up like her mother. Emerson and Presley meet in a college class. Emerson is super sexy and he get Presley's attention pretty quickly. Presley like Emerson but she fights it. She doesn't feel that she has any time for love in h ...more

I was overwhelmed by Presley’s story. The book is raw, honest, brutally tragic and stunningly poignant. Many of the scenes were difficult to read. The despair Presley lives under is stifling. Always afraid of what may happen. Painfully aware of what is expected of her, stuck in a hell not of her own making.

All Presley wants is a little bit of normal. She is surprisingly naive in many aspects of her life, making her an even more relatable character. AE does a wonderful job of w

Presley has had a life no one should have to live through. She was raised by a hooker who cared more about working than her daughter. Girls made fun of her and guys tried to use her. Now her only hope is to go to college and escape the path her mom carved for her. She doesn't have time for distractions but then she meets Emerson. He pursues her until she finally gives in. Can they be happy or will her secret destroy their relationship.

Emerson looks like he has the perfect life. He has the house,

This is a hard review to write because really this book was amazing. It has an amazing storyline that while dragged in a few spots, moves along quickly in time.
