An authoritative study of contemporary American couples--married, living together, and homosexual--addresses diverse issues involved in their work, money, and sexual and emotional relationships
This book was a sociological survey of thousands of American couples (Over 10,000, I believe); split into categories of Married and unmarried, etc.; and how couples responded to and dealt with issues relating to money, work and sex. It was very readable, but it is not a novel - the book is a sociological survey findings book.
I read this book shortly after it came out in the 1980's. The book has very clear graphics and charts, clear and unbiased questions and responses, pertinent and fascinating quotes from actual couples surveyed, etc. The breadth and depth of the survey was large and complete. I read every page, and at the time I felt stunned by the amount of knowledge I learned from reading the book.
I have not encountered a book with this depth since. Much of what was in the book would be informative today - much has changed, and yet much is still the same. I would like to get my hands on this book, and I think that a 2010 version of this book would be interesting to a large audience - who would take in tiny bits of data in tweets and small quantities, but would learn much anyway.
