Costume parties where Kisling dressed up as the madame of a Marseilles brothel, night clubs named after operas, painters living together in a beehive, poets and artists dueling, artists painting false eyes on actors and actresses for a film, late night private clubs, opium dens ... this was Montparnasse between the wars.

tENTATIVELY, cONVENIENCE
This is the last of 6 chapbks that Earl sent me in trade that I have to review. It's the 3rd named after an historical prominent woman. I've been long since familiar w/ Kiki having seen her in French avant-garde films - usually dressed somewhat androgynously & w/ striking lipstick & haircut. Seemingly very vibrant. It's her back that was 'transformed' into a cello in a famous Man Ray foto.
