About the author

Pamela Conn Beall was born in Omaha, Nebraska, and raised in Klamath Falls, Oregon, with two sisters and a brother. Music was a large part of her childhood, not only within the family, but as she studied voice, piano, and guitar, and sang in numerous select choirs. She graduated from Oregon State University, where she received her Bachelor of Arts degree in music with a minor in education. After college she became an elementary school music teacher in the Portland area, taught guitar at the community college, and sang with the Norman Leyden Singers and Portland Symphonic Choir. Pam lives with her husband, Ron, in Lake Oswego, Oregon. They have four adult children.

The Wee Sing brand was known during its peak to provide songbook compilations and cassettes to teach younger generations music and/or rhymes from the past as well as sometimes something newer like this book. As a result some of the songs during these bitter years are definitely not going to be received well or even considered politically correct.

Each book is a collection of poems and various brief songs, the latter which are put on musical scales for those who not only talented in singing but also in playing an instrument. And sometimes if a tune has been recycled that information has also been shared.

Readers will find this book with two sections with the biggest dedicated to rather common nursery rhymes and tongue twisters while the smallest section is dedicated to lullabies. Where the information could be found, readers are provided an earliest recorded date and possible names for either the words or melody. And occasional instructions may be included if there are known interactive elements.

The book does include some black-and-white detailed and realistic to somewhat cartoonish illustrations.

All in all if you are looking to share with your younger ones healthy and mostly wholesome older songs from the past than I would highly recommend these time capsules even with all their now perceived faults.

This book was a trip down Memory Lane for me. I was reminded of the songs my grandmother sang to me. We sat in the back seat of our car on daytrips and with my head in her lap she would sing my favorites -- "Six Little Ducks" and "Over in the Meadow." Fast forward to my children -- "This Old Man", "Baa Baa Black Sheep" and "Pat-A-Cake" were favorites. On to my teaching days with "Sing a Song of Sixpence" and "Hey Diddle Diddle." I played "Pat-A-Cake and "This Little Piggy" with my grandchildren. The favorite lullabies were written by Brahms and Mozart. These are just a few of the nursery rhymes and lullabies in this wonderful book.

You can stream this album on Spotify which we do a lot of mornings while cooking breakfast, or while the kids do some artwork or play with shapes etc. I love this album because it strings together nursery rhymes into a larger narrative of a group of friends going to London for King Cole's birthday party. The voices and sound effects are entertaining and on top of that I think it's important for kids to get exposed to classic nursery rhymes and lullabies.

I have so many fond memories of this book and cassette tape. I would listen to it constantly as a child. Sing every song and could even recite the story between songs. While on vacation my brother decided to borrow my boombox and didn’t realize this cassette tape was in the player and lost it at a party. I cried when I got home and found it lost. My mom made him buy me another tape which sadly I do not still own. Here’s to finding another cassette tape soon.
