DNF @ 38%

Admittedly, it's my fault for being curious.

This is literally just a woman describing every sexual encounter she has.

That's it.

There's no feminism, no new way of thinking, no female empowerment. It's literally just a woman having lots of sex with multiple people and describing each act in awful detail, often with embarrassing similes and metaphors (lots of 'oysters' and 'precious pearls').

Plus, it's narrated by the author who sounds like she's never narrated anything in her life. There's no emotion, no inflection, no change in pace or tone or anything. It's just a monotone reading words.

I was curious in particular about the 'at sea' portion and was hoping there would be a look at the life of a woman in a typically male role, but I still have no idea what kind of ships this woman was sailing on and if indeed there was actually any sailing at all, since everything seemed to tee off at bars and beaches.

This was utter trash from the second it started and 38% was as far as I could stomach.

Do not recommend to anyone, to be honest. Even readers interested in the kinky details of her sex life will likely find more excitement elsewhere.

Hard no.

With thanks and apologies to NetGalley for an audio ARC

Between the Sheets caught my attention immediately with its premise: a bold, real-life account of a female sailor exploring the world through sexual escapades with her crewmates. I was ready for something empowering, steamy, and unconventional.

However, after reaching 36%, I’ve decided to put this one down.

The audiobook narration unfortunately didn’t help—it lacked emotion and polish. It felt more like someone reading for the first time, and the pacing often reminded me I was listening to someone turning pages rather than pulling me into a story.

The writing style also felt amateur and repetitive. While I appreciate that it’s based on true events, the book read more like a series of loosely connected encounters than a developed narrative. I would’ve loved to see even a light storyline or emotional arc to tie the scenes together and make the erotica more impactful. Instead, I found myself zoning out and not feeling any real connection to the narrator or her experiences.

This may work for readers who want something raw and unfiltered, but it just wasn’t for me. I admire the author’s vulnerability in sharing her story—it simply didn’t resonate in the way I hoped it would.

Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for the opportunity to review this ARC.

Book Review: Between the Sheet by Madame Butterfly
⭐ 3.5 stars

Between the Sheet was a fun, spicy, and surprisingly witty collection that I genuinely enjoyed. I gave it 3.5 stars—not because it was unforgettable, but because it did exactly what I wanted in the moment. The stories weren’t all interconnected, which actually worked in its favor for me. I could pop it on while working or doing chores, and I was instantly caught up in whichever scenario the next story brought.

There’s a certain sailor-at-sea charm in the storytelling, mixed with flirtatious banter and steamy scenes that didn’t take themselves too seriously. It gave just enough spice without losing its playful edge.

While I don’t think this book will live rent-free in my head, it was the kind of audiobook that made me smile and kept me entertained. For anyone looking for something light, cheeky, and perfect for multitasking, I’d definitely recommend giving this one a shot.

This is not your typical collection of sex stories—it’s something far more real. What comes through isn't just the heat of the encounters, but the clarity of a woman who knows what she wants, and isn’t afraid to take it. She sails, she explores, she sleeps with who she wants—not to prove anything, but because it feels right, honest, alive.

There’s a beautiful directness in how she tells it. No shame, no apology. Just her body, her voice, her hunger. The sea is her backdrop, but the real journey is internal—how she owns her pleasure, her freedom, and the emotional complexity that sometimes comes with it.

Some stories are playful, others carry a quiet weight. Sometimes it’s just about the moment. Sometimes it’s about connection. But in all of them, she stays true to herself. That’s what makes this so compelling—not just what she does, but who she becomes through it all.

Very disappointing. Very repetitive and basic writing. The smut is terrible tbh - I feel like most teens on Wattpad do a better job. The narration is also not good-some parts would be better if they were re-recorded. The writing is very descriptive of the acts themselves-I was expecting so much more, but this was honestly like being in the mind of a horny teenage boy with the vocabulary of a 40 year old. Some of the parts are setting off the alarm bells-some of it is predatory, some of it just feels problematic all together. I get that this is supposed to be autobiographical but it’s just so boring because it’s the same thing over and over again.

I was intrigued by the premise of this book. Right away, the audio was lacking any feeling, depth or emotion. It might be better as book that I could read and imagine the voices. Either way, the writing lacked depth and spice. While there were "sex scenes" it really lacked some build up and intimacy. I really wanted to like some parts of it but I could not find any way to connect with the characters or writing. The audio is really hurting this book. I would not release this audio version unless it is redone to try and give the writing some opportunity to shine. I obtained a free version of the audio through Net Galley and just could not finish it - yikes.

Oh absolutely the f*** not. This is bad. So bad. I DNFed in Chapter 3.

Describing the boat as having a "wide girth and big central helm" is worthy of an episode of My Strange Addictions. This woman's sexual attraction to boats rivals Nathaniel's love for his Monte Carlo. The voice over dialogue was weird and unnecessary. More than anything, though, the "writing" was just awful.

"Labia swelling with each step."

"Teasing him with what I imagined was my goddess-looking body."

Kudos to the people who DNFed later in the game. I would leave this story on Literotica and call it a day.

And absolutely no one is going to believe this is a legitimate memoir.

Not your average memoir, but if you’re into real stories told without shame and allot of heat this one definitely delivers. It’s bold, raw and not at all for the faint of heart. Though the book is about sailing it’s more about what happens between the sheets while sailing lol. If books with very open doors make you clutch your pearls this is probably not for you..,actually, it’s definitely not for you. But hey, don’t knock it til you try it.

Giving it 3 stars cuz I would’ve enjoyed a bit more plot but that’s just a personal preference.

This book is a memoir, but focused only on highlighting her sexcapades while working on a variety of sail boats, and traveling, for a few years.

It was a different book than the typical memoir. it really was specifically her sexual journey and encounters during her travels. She has lots of stories, that's for sure!

I'm glad to read a female so free in her sexuality.

Thanks to NetGalley for the ARC.

This book isn't really erotica so much as the story of someone who wanted to live without rules for a while, enjoying nature and experiencing pleasure along the way. The setting is interesting and it made me a little jealous-- who hasn't dreamed of heading off to sea and finding yourself? This isn't the kind of adventure you can have at any time of life.
The narrator is really good

I loved the cover and was intrigued the author narrated the book. Unfortunately, I was not able to finish the book. While I can appreciate the true stories of the author the writing left me lacking. It seems like a journal of someone’s private thoughts and I didn’t feel connected to the characters.

I'm sorry I don't have anything positive to say.

I received an audio arc and couldn't power through til the end. The description of the story sounded great, but the book was not good. It feels like a journal written by a horny teen. It really just gave me the ick. And I've read some really bad erotica in the past. The author narrated the book herself and it's very flat.

DNF @ 20%

Between the Sheets by "Madame Butterfly" was horrible. I love reading spicy books, but this is not that. There's no substance to it, it's nothing more than her bragging about her conquests, making immature and questionable decisions. What made it so I could take no more were her regular stumbling over the words that she wrote and her uneven tone. This would have benefitted from a professional narrator, but, again, due to the lack of substance, just barely.
