During my over forty years as an educator, I have been a substitute teacher many times and the worst nightmare of a substitute teacher is to enter a classroom with less than perfect lesson plans to follow or even worse NO lesson plans (yes, it does happen). The more experience a teacher has gives them the ability to think upon their feet but the Super Sub: A Must-Have Handbook for Substitute Teachers is an excellent reference to carry in the substitute bag of tricks. It has saved me many times over the years I have used it. I have also used it as an excellent reference when writing lesson plans and needing a new idea to stimulate learning in my classroom. I have spent most of my teaching time as a early childhood educator but have substituted in all areas from two-year old preschool through teaching graduate level classes to adults. References are a part of the way of life for a teacher and finding new ideas a constant search and Super Sub is an excellent reference for new ideas.
