Okay, I'm a late bloomer who's a big DC comics fan and spent my childhood summers on the Jersey shore but I was born under a wandering star and have lived in different parts of America ever since. That's enough about me. Need to feel inspired today? Looking for something to make you root for an ordinary hero? I'm all about that in everything I write.
I love a good tale that makes me wonder about things and I love a story even more that leaves me feeling inspired or like I'm capable of doing more than I realized. That's my goal with everything I've ever written. Some of the stories I tell involve twisting, turning thrillers and others have a lot of magic.
There's something to be said for getting lost in another world and coming out the other side feeling a little better about yourself or the possibilities in front of you. That's basically the best part of life in a nutshell, no matter what kind of story I'm setting out to tell.
Things are getting ever more complicated for Ellis and Charlie!
Between getting her mother, Claire, searching for a cure for Connor, her Dad, plus two others who were affected by the virus inflicted on them, by the Russian Playboy Billionaire,, Mikhail's Mother, plus helping Charlie to train his new powers, Ellis and Charlie are suddenly embroiled in a murder investigation, of their friend, Rollo, the quiet Drow, who had helped them so many times.
But, when Ellis is kidnapped, after attempting to break into a secret Lab, that had part of the cure, needed to help save Conner, she doesn't know why, or who, has done this - until she's forced into a helicopter, and taken far off land, and in the middle of the Ocean!
Who she finds there is a complete shock, but not as much as finding out that Charlie is dead!
Once again, my attention was grabbed, and kept focused, on this book, and I followed Ellis' journey, through one disaster after another, until her confrontation with evil, once more!
I really enjoyed this series, and this book was no different, as so many things were happening at the same time!
I shouldn't have been surprised at the plot twists, but I was, and I'm going straight on to Book Seven: 'Drow Nightrunner', to see what is going to happen, after the rather surprising climax of Book Six!
Once I've read this, I'll catch you on the flip side, to let you know what I think of this, rather exciting, new plotline!
Ellis and Charlie are staying with the Drow so they can help him learn how to use his shadow magic. While there they have to investigate the murder of one of the Drow, and from there things start getting really dangerous. I really like the characters in this series and enjoy all the adventures they get into. I am looking forward to the next book to see how they get out of their current mess.
Like most fantasy, the Chronicles of Shadow Bourne series builds on the previous book. I highly recommend listening to the series in chronological order. Not only for the overall arc, but for the relationships that develop. One thing I enjoy is that each installment contains a mystery of its own while building on the series. We also have a slow-burn romance and things are heating up.
The authors delivered another action-packed tale with twists that kept me slack jawed. Claire, Ellis’s mother, needs information from a government lab to save Conner, her Dad and two others who were infected in a previous installment. Things get tense when Ellis is caught and whisked off to sea. What she discovers there changes everything.
Charlie worries the Drow might wipe his memory and ruin his relationship with Ellis. He takes on the murder investigation of their friend, Rollo. Rollo helped both Ellis and Charlie in a previous installment.
The climax left me itching for the next audiobook, Drow Nightrunner. Stephanie Savannah continues to narrate the series and I enjoy the voices and tone she has set for the series. She captures Ellis’s emotions perfectly.
Rich characters, plot twists, magic and suspenseful mysteries have me recommending this series to fans of light urban fantasy and paranormal stories. At around six hours each, these audios deliver an engaging escape. This review was originally posted at Caffeinated Reviewer
It seemed to start pretty slow with lots of explanations that didn't really matter. As the book progressed, things picked up. Some convoluted backstabbing occurs - with unexpected people involved. Interesting ending to suck you in for book 7.
Intrigue, betrayal, friends, plagues you name it this book has it. Well crafted, as all Martha Carr tales are, the twists, turns, and surprises will keep you engaged.
So much intrigue, I can barely keep up. I love, love, love this series. Great characters, excellent storyline, and plenty of animals. What more can one ask for?!?
Like so many series from this group of authors, it is too long. Books in the middle of the series have a little or no reason to exist. A shorter more concise series would be best.
