The Jennings Family #1

Compromised for Christmas

Rate this book
This year for Christmas you are... Marrying a stranger.

Miss Georgiana Hartley is beautiful and bold, but what everyone mistakes for confidence is really a mask hiding a deep-seated loneliness, one only daring adventures can temporarily alleviate. When her recklessness lands her in scandal and a forced marriage, she’s determined to view it as a chance for a fresh start and a sense of belonging. That is, until she realizes the threat of rejection from the husband she’s falling in love with is an even lonelier fate.

Mr. Fitzwilliam Jennings knows he’s a little different, but he has his Italian translations and is content with his solitary life. Until a bare-breasted beauty disrupts the comfort of his study. When he accidentally compromises her, he has no words—literally. Fitz is awkward and anxious on a normal day, but it rises to near painful levels with his beautiful, new wife, especially when this odd, warm feeling fills his chest every time she’s around. He has no idea what that could mean—probably just indigestion.

It’s a marriage destined for disaster. Accidental insults are thrown. Mishaps in the bedroom abound. But in small moments of closeness, love glimmers like freshly fallen snow. The only problem? The harder Fitz strives to be the man Georgiana desires, the bigger he blunders.

Compromised for Christmas is a steamy, humorous, and heartwarming holiday Regency romance featuring a socially awkward Italian translator and a lonely merchant's daughter. Forced marriage, Compromised Heroine, Sunshine/Sunshine, Found Family, Cinnamon Roll Hero, Fast Burn. Please note, this story contains adult language and FIVE scenes that are deliciously scandalous. This is a delightful, cozy holiday romance with just the right dash of spice to keep things steamy. It's easy to fall in love with Fitz. He's a lovable, awkward cinnamon roll who stumbles his way into the heroine's heart in the sweetest way. And Georgiana is a firecracker who is just fun to read about. As for the rest of the Jennings? Literally the in laws we wish we all had. I am a sucker for a found family trope and this book delivers!

I would definitely say this book uses the miscommunication trope as the main source of angst, and while that's not my favorite trope, Fitz is so endearing that I couldn't be too mad at him (though I did want to strangle him a few times). The miscommunication is also solved fairly quickly, making for an overall low angst low/no stakes romance.

I thoroughly enjoyed getting to know these characters and I will absolutely be picking up any future novels staring the Jennings family.

If you're looking for something sweet and spicy to cozy up with during the holiday season, I would recommend giving this one a read! ⭐⭐⭐⭐

Georgiana Hartley has a reckless streak that finds her in an unfortunate compromising situation. At a ball, she goes from lounging in a study trying to tempt the Duke of Ironcrest, to trying to aid Fitzwilliam Jennings, the younger brother of the Earl of Bentley who she has shocked into a near faint with her bare breasts. Even more unfortunately for Georgiana and Fitz, they are discovered, and forced to wed immediately despite protestations that her state of unclothedness has nothing to do with Fitz... Thus, the seemingly bold and brazen Georgiana finds herself married to the seemingly awkward and shy Fitz, and her dreams of a marriage suited to her proclivities is out of her reach. Or is it?

Compromised for Christmas is a steamy novel-length story set at Christmas 1816. It is passionate and steamy, laced with professions of love in Italian, a family full of energy and understanding, and seasonal joy. Much of the conflict hinges on miscommunication, which feels natural because of Fitz's awkward character and his inability to verbalize clearly in Georgiana's presence. He wants desperately to please his new wife, so he takes it upon himself to learn more, rather unfortunately, by going to ask his former mistress for advice.

The book feels like a long novella in both style and conflict, but will be satisfying for anyone looking for a steamy, k!nky regency holiday read.

Thank you to Lizzie C Koz for an eARC for review. Compromised for Christmas is out 11/12/24.

The Beauty & The Nerd
This endearing blunderbuss is everything she never knew she wanted - and more!

~ Georgiana & Fitzwilliam ~
She’s the overlooked daughter of a businessman and a title hungry mama, with a fondness for mischief - she finds a marvellous partner in crime in Fitz’s sister - and fascinated by the kinkier side of bedroom pleasure - not that she has any experience, but she wouldn’t mind changing that.
He’s an earl’s younger brother, a translator, terribly shy and adorably clumsy, a loner at peace with his own awkwardness. He tends to get lost in his own head and loses his words when baffled. His family loves and supports him unconditionally, but society isn’t as understanding.
She’s looking for an adventure and he wants a quiet life - neither of them is granted their wish when they’re caught in a compromising position at his family’s holiday house party.

A whirlwind rollercoaster romance with a definite Vasti-vibe; a high energy read with lots of things going on, a constant flow of miscommunication-mishaps, modern wordplay and tons of mischief and kinky spice.

Gigi & Fitz blunder, assume and mess up, but they’re not easily discouraged. I really enjoyed how devoted this couple was to their happily ever after, the way she stands up for her husband even when their own path is rocky, how desperate he is to make her happy even if he goes about it all wrong. It’s heartwarming!
His family is a blast - progressive and most intriguing - I love their dynamic and I can’t wait to read their stories! I’m even more interested in who will tame the deprived duke and his sidekick!

As a whole, this story is fast-paced, wickedly delicious and light with a few touching moments, but for me it felt a little too much and a tad repetitive at times. It was a fun and enthralling read, but not a relaxing one. A lovely debut, and I’m looking forward to more by this author!

This novel really shines with its blend of engaging characters and humorous situations. At the heart of the story is Miss Georgiana Hartley, a sassy, fun-loving woman trying to escape the looming shadow of her title-hungry mother and disinterested father. When she reluctantly finds herself in a forced marriage, little does she know that sweet, bumbling Fitzwilliam Jennings is the charming disaster she never knew she needed. Despite his stumbles, Fitz has a gentle warmth that dazzles Gigi in ways she never expected. Their relationship evolves through a series of festive escapades that are filled with hilarity, providing the perfect counterbalance to the serious undercurrents of misunderstandings and lack of communication.

This story had me giggling right from the start. The characters are wonderfully dynamic, especially the hero, Fitz. His initial awkwardness makes him immediately endearing and watching him grow into someone who commands attention is a remarkable transformation. On the other hand, the heroine, Gigi, shines with her exuberant personality. She is daring and vibrant, bringing a sense of joy and excitement to every scene she enters. Together, they create a fantastic combo that keeps you engaged throughout the entire tale. Adding a sprinkle of holiday cheer throughout the narrative brings an extra layer of warmth, enhancing the festive atmosphere. This delightful blend of humor, personal growth, and the spirit of the season makes their journey not just entertaining but also heartwarming.

From the first page, Gigi and Fitz had a powerful attraction. It was like an electric charge between them, a spark that ignited her desires. Gigi found herself yearning to explore new dimensions of their relationship, particularly the world of BDSM. Her heart raced as she imagined how freeing it would be to embrace this side of herself, yet the uncertainty of Fitz’s reaction kept her silent. Meanwhile, Fitz was caught in his own struggle. He sensed Daphne's longing but felt out of his depth in a realm he had never ventured into before. The idea of not being able to meet her desires haunted him, making it hard for him to respond fully to her hidden needs. Unfortunately, Fitz’s approach to educate himself leads to miscommunication and distrust. But when Fitz finally does find his confidence, he became everything she longed for—strong, capable, and certain in a way that allowed her to explore her desires fully. And Fitz discovered a confidence he never knew existed within him, embracing the role of a caring yet authoritative partner.

Alongside Fitz and Gigi, a colorful cast of side characters weaves in and out of the story, each bringing their own unique brand of humor and charm. Their eclectic personalities add depth and enhance the overall reading experience. Lizzie has succeeded not only in introducing what seems to be a captivating lineup of characters but also in laying the groundwork for compelling narratives in the rest of the series.

This excellent debut novel perfectly combines humor, romance, and festive spirit to create an unforgettable reading experience. The writing is vivid and engaging, drawing you into a world that feels both familiar and wildly imaginative. Well-crafted scenes filled with laughter, warmth, and the promise of love. Anyone looking for a fun escape into a world where misunderstandings lead to love and laughter will adore this tale. Ultimately, it's a celebration of finding happiness where you least expect it, and the ultimate journey to a joyful happily ever after.

I received an early copy from the author (Thank You!) All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Little girls were told of stories of enchanted frogs that transformed into princes with a kiss... What would happen if one kissed a lobster?

4.5 stars

This was such a cute, hilariously awkward, yet deliciously steamy historical rom-com! Both Fitz and Gigi have been traumatized by past relationships, so when they were suddenly thrust together in order to avoid ruination, neither Fitz nor Gigi knew how to connect with each other. Fitz suffered from extreme social anxiety and was constantly putting his foot in his mouth during his interactions with Gigi, often leading to some hilarious moments that had me laughing and swooning.

Even so, I absolutely adored how Gigi accepted his innate clumsiness and pushed to make him feel more comfortable with himself. I loved how devoted Fitz was to his wife's happiness; even though he managed to muck it up repeatedly, his intentions were as pure as his love for Gigi. I loved witnessing this lonely girl and awkward boy find love and a sense of belonging with each other, especially as their encounters got increasingly spicy! I cannot wait for Felicity and Felix's books next🖤

Tropes: forced marriage, compromising meet-cute, awkward cinnamon roll hero, outgoing heroine, historical rom-com, opposites attract, she has kinks/he wants to please her, miscommunication, Italian dirty-talking hero, found family, STEAMY🔥

Oh my this was spicy 🌶️ so ye be warned, both by me and content warnings.

I really enjoyed reading this book. It was lighthearted and was a nice departure from some of the angstier books I’ve been reading and tbh, my current stressed-out state of mind. The hero is a book nerd who really only has eyes for his Italian studies until he meets the FMC. Then he is a bumbling mess who can barely speak any words. Like… literally. It is not an understatement to say he is a terrible communicator. SAME.

The premise of the book was also fun and the forced marriage trope was handled well. The way they met was something else 😆. Also, the MMC is 100% a gentleman but not in the Anthony Bridgerton "I Am A Gentleman 😏" way. The FMC provided a nice contrast to him and it is great that she did not suffer his nonsense for very long. She did suffer some of his nonsense, though, and the miscommunication trope is heavy in this book. I feel like the MMC could have been put in his place sooner, but that is tricky given her new situation and place in her in-law’s family. She’s had a wild two weeks.

I’m interested to see future books, especially future ones in the series.

I was given a complimentary ARC in exchange for this review

I am so glad I said yes to taking a chance on a debut author because Lizzie C. Koz is definitely one to watch! She brings the heat and spice to historical romance and made me fall for her unlikely pairing of Fritz and Georgiana.

As the title suggests, someone is definitely compromised, but it’s our hero Fritz who is stunned finding a topless Georgiana lying in wait for the Duke of Ironcrest. This is a marriage of necessity trope and neither party are thrilled with the idea of marriage to a spouse they barely know, and yet as opposite as they are, Fritz and Georgiana may be just what the other needs. Fritz is adorably clumsy, shy, awkward, and he stutters and sweats profusely when uncomfortable (which is pretty much any time he’s in a room with Gigi). Georgiana is level-headed and beautiful and is extremely curious about kinky bedroom proclivities, but when discovered “en flagrante”, her mother’s title hunting ways ensure that Gigi’s incident ties her to a second son that may one day inherit an earldom. Koz takes a look at what happens after a compromising situation which is something I don’t think I’ve ever read in historical romance. Typically this is the third act breakup moment of a book and I found it really interesting that we have a whole narrative based on how two characters must now “make it work” despite knowing virtually nothing about one another. Using alternating dual POV chapters worked well to help the reader tune into what each MC was thinking and feeling.

Obviously this book is spicy from the get-go, and the compromising happens by the end of the second chapter. But we are treated to more spicy scenes as Gigi makes her wishes known and Fritz attempts to please her. It definitely takes awhile (the majority of the book) for Fritz to become comfortable with Gigi, but I loved seeing how they each made consolations for the other and honestly wanted to make their marriage work intimately and not just in name. A common recurrence was the couple becoming intimate, followed by Fritz freezing up and fleeing the scene, but Georginana has so much patience with him. More than I probably would have had, and this is what makes her a heroine in the truest sense of the word.

I am honestly very surprised this is a debut. I read as though written by a seasoned writer. I also loved being treated to a heroine that is openly curious about sub/dom kink and is not shy in the least when it comes to her own sexuality. It is possibly a little too modern for traditional historical romance? Perhaps, but Koz’s voice may be the fresh take readers new to the genre will want to read. I received an early copy from the author. All opinions are my own.

This was boring AF. I had just finished Koz's latest release Madcap with a Marquess and liked it so much, I immediately picked up this one. Big mistake, HUGE.

Misunderstanding after misunderstanding and I guess we're to assume the MMC is on the spectrum, so we should accept every horrible thing he did or said to Georgina? The author kept telling me that the MMC is endearing and adorable, but he wasn't showing those traits through his actions---not to me anyway. I didn't like him. And as for the FMC, I wanted her to have a backbone. I was annoyed she forgave so easily over and over and over, but then again, if she stood up for herself then the misunderstanding trope would have been too quickly cleared up and that was the only thing holding this story together.

We're also supposed to accept the FMC has these specific proclivities without any kind of backstory? She had no friends and didn't even have a ladies maid. How in the world did she learn about that stuff? I don't have an issue with what she wanted, but you gotta give me explanations on how she discovered what she's into in a way that makes sense for this time period.

And don't even get me started on when the "L" word was dropped because I literally rolled my eyes when it happened. They'd barely even had a freaking conversation by that point.

This had many similarities to Madcap with a Marquess, but it's almost like the author saw where she messed up in Compromised for Christmas and fixed it in Madcap. Madcap had heart and made me care for the characters, Compromised was bland, and I didn’t even get past the 90% mark because I just didn't care. And I only read that far because I paid for the damn thing.

This is the first book of Lizzie C Koz and I am so glad I discovered her. It’s an amazing debut, I really love her writing, the transitions between the chapters are so clever. I am already in love with the Jannings family and can’t wait for more.

Fitz is a second brother, who buries himself in his work as italian translator and feels not comfortable outside of his own family. He is akward in conversations with strangers and feels that he doesn‘t belong.
Georgiana is a daughter from a working class family. The goal of her parents is to marry Georgiana to a member of the ton. Georgianas feelings doesn‘t matter in this transaction.
So she decides to have a little bit of fun before a loveless marriage and accidentally enters Fitz study.
They get caught in a compromising position and have to marry.

I really love how well written Fitz and Georgiana are. They are so easy to like. Get to know their past and the experiences both have to suffer… they deserve their HEA so much!
The humour in this book is awesome, I laugh out loud so many times, than the next page gave me goosebumbs and the steamy scenes are so freaking hot. This book was a rollercoaster in the best of ways.
The way both become able to open up to each other, see how they really are, is so beautiful.
The balance of deep conversations, steamy scenes (there are many and they are all awesome) and humour and lightness (the snowball fight!) are perfect.
I am really in love with these two and want desperately a Fitz in my life!
Can’t wait to read Felicitys story!

4.5 ⭐️

Their meet-cute is breast-infused, embarrassing, and absolutely hilarious I was HOOKED immediately. Fitz is a sweaty, stuttering, silly boy (with crippling anxiety), and while I typically fall for the tall, dark, and brooding type I’m so f***ing here for this nervous nerd. Especially since Georgiana is Classic Pretty Girl who’s secretly lonely with hidden depths and she finds it irresistably fun to tempt and torment our poor boy by making him flustered. Their dynamic just works in so many different ways! And I really enjoyed the growth of these two exploring and discovering their sexual desires together. Through so many fun misunderstandings (oh Derek!) and sweet moments, Fitz and Georgiana lay a path for their own happy ending.

This has:
✨ Beauty and the Nerd (but he's a hot nerd)
✨ Marriage of Compromise
✨ Christmas Country House Party
✨ He's her lobster
✨ Italian dirty talk
✨ anxiety rep

Cute but slightly spoiler-y things:

Truly this book had me laughing the whole time, while also infused with such sweet family moments and sexy romance. The way the author weaves together humor with serious subject matter, and characters that are complex and REAL, is so well done. I could not put this book down and can’t wait to read more of this lovable bunch! I’ve already preordered Felicity’s book as a birthday gift to myself, bring on the angst and Daddy Duke 🤗

What a great start to a series! This book is HR, but it did have modern elements to it. The author was up front about them from the start, so it wasn’t a problem for me at all as it was mostly the idioms that were modern. This book is worth reading if you enjoy a bit of humor in your romance. It was a great balance of angst and humor.

And the hero…he was so lovely! Fitz was a unique hero because he was so awkward and bumbling. Guys like this do not usually get their story, so I am thrilled to read his!! I loved every minute of Fitz. I loved how he could let his naughty side shine for Georgianna, but he was still himself too. He didn’t have to change or grow into something else. It was OK that he continued to be easily embarrassed, fumbling with his words, and got easily tripped up. Yes!! I really appreciate how the author let the characters shine. There was growth in their relationship skills and understanding, but their personalities didn’t have to change.

Georgianna was just as fun. She was a mix of innocence and sauciness. She was kind and loving, but daring. She was someone who you want to know and befriend.

The family was also really fun. I love the closeness and the friendship they had.

For a lighthearted but steamy story, read this book!

Forced marriage + bumbling nerdy man + lonely beauty = The most heartwarming historical tale that leaves you swooning and sighing.

Georgiana is looking for a great adventure. Her loneliness drives her to make a rash decision that ends up in a compromised situation that encounters the wrong type of man.

Fitzwilliam is happy being a bachelor until one day he walks in on a beautiful stranger that has him wide eyed, red faced and stumbling into a situation that will forever change his life.

This historical romance by debut author Lizzie is funny, charming, sweet, and spicy! I absolutely love the fumbling Fitz. My heart went out to him several times because he is so socially awkward without wanting to be. But despite that, he makes it his mission to be the best for Georgina in every aspect.

Georgina is desperate to fit into a family and to be loved. Though she had pictured her ideal man in her mind, she never expected to come to care for the most awkward, intelligent, sweet man that is Fitz. He changes her perspective of what love is and what family should be.

Everything about this story is paced perfectly, you meet several of the Jennings and you come to adore each one. Lizzie knocks it out of the park with this book and I can't wait to read more of her world.

Really loved this writer's style. She blends a lot of detailed characters with good emotion and great heat (inc. kink elements)🔥 🔥 🔥 🔥 , plus there is some cute laugh-out-loud humor (smart, not childish). Will be looking for more from Koz.

It's usually the hero that becomes a favorite character for me---and I do love awkward-but-sexy Fitz--- but Georgiana wins here. I loved the depth of her character, particularly her perseverance and ability to remain strong and hopeful and joyful in difficult situations. I did see a lot of myself in Fitz though, so that was a twist on the norm also.

Fans of Tessa Dare and Felicity Niven would likely enjoy Koz.

My reading in 2025 has been… unusual. I normally devour historical romance, but beyond a few trusted favourites — India Holton, Alexandra Vasti, Alice Coldbreath and company — it’s been a surprisingly hit-and-miss year. As a result, I’ve ended up reading far more contemporary, paranormal, and romantasy than expected (TikTok, I see you 👀).

So when Compromised for Christmas, a steamy historical Christmas romance, was recommended to me, I was sceptical. Very sceptical. But I’m delighted to say I needn’t have worried at all — I may have found a new favourite.

Our heroine, Georgina, is the daughter of a wealthy merchant, curious, sensual, and yearning for more than polite society allows. Enter Fitz: adorable, awkward, scholarly, and the younger brother of an earl. One accidental compromise later, a marriage ensues — and while Fitz is wildly attracted to his new wife, he’s deeply in his own head, plagued by insecurities about Georgina’s beauty, confidence, and just-a-little-wild nature.

Meanwhile, Georgina is utterly besotted with her bookish husband. She adores his family, wants a home, and is far more emotionally grounded than anyone gives her credit for. The Jennings family themselves are a joy — warm, vivid, and full of personality — and they add real heart to the story.

Is the language occasionally a little modern for Regency England? Possibly. Did I care? Not even slightly. What matters is that this is a genuinely heartwarming, seasonal romance with surprising emotional depth — especially considering what these two get up to in the bedroom. Fitz being fluent in Italian leads to some scorching scenes. Scorchio, indeed. 🔥

Warm, sexy, funny, and deeply satisfying, Compromise for Christmas earns a very enthusiastic five stars from me. This is the first book in the Jennings family series, and the next one is already firmly on my TBR.

A fabulous surprise around every corner. In a genre where things often progress by route, Lizzie C Koz truly surprised me in her debut. Wonderfully written with a modern flair that somehow manages to exist both modern and period. The characters she’s created are a vast combination of style, each encompassing an entire contradiction of emotions that gives them a unique flair. Georgiana & Fitz, the lonely girl and the awkward boy, are the perfect societal match. They bring out the best in each other, once they get past the bumbling and lean into their connection. These two truly see each other and learn quickly how to read the other’s wants and needs creating a blissful connection. For a girl that has grown up mostly alone in this world, she accidentally stumbled into the perfect family to soothe that loneliness. Each of the Jennings siblings possess that intrinsic loneliness that can only come from feelings of inadequacy, which is ironic considering the loving environment they grew up in. Proving that within our minds is a dangerous place to dwell. I can’t wait to see how Felicity and Felix find healing. Koz has created a very compelling world where i find myself longing for each of the stories seen amongst these characters. It is a gift in a debut story to find so many stories waiting to be told. Obviously drawn to the family but I find myself longing for the stories already told within the stories couples, and the hints of tales to come with the rogues of this story. I will definitely be watching to see what she comes out with next. A truly fabulous debut novel!

Compromised for Christmas is the first in The Jennings Family series and the author’s debut novel.

I absolutely adored this book and couldn’t get enough of Georgiana, Fitz, and the whole Jennings family. It was lighthearted and fun but the MC vulnerabilities were also honest and raw. Evoking empathy and an emotional connection to them. I loved the humor showcased throughout, from the comedic analogies to the witty sibling banter to the laugh out loud innuendos.

With it being the first book in the series, the other family members are all introduced with some other side characters that leaves you intrigued on how their future stories will play out.

I loved both Georgiana and Fitz. Georgiana has never felt that she is enough for her parents and just wants to be loved. But she knows what she wants in the bedroom. While this is part of the main storyline, I especially liked how the character made the distinction that what is most important in her marriage is having a husband that loves her and that she’s enough as she is. Fitz is an academic that has a hard time talking with women and what he means to say doesn’t always come out of his mouth the right way. I found him sweet and endearing.

There were five encounters that includes toys and various kinks. This was higher steam and the encounters between the characters play a central role in the story.

Content warning is provided at the beginning of the book.

I received an advance reader copy from the author. All opinions are my own.

I NEVER THOUGHT I'D SAY THIS......

Enjoyable characters here but too much s3x. There. I said it.

Georgiana compromises herself with Fitzwilliam, the younger brother of an Earl and they quickly wed. Fitz is a socially awkward, painfully shy scholar who doesn't feel up to pleasuring his wife the way she wants.

What Georgiana wants is to be dominated and demeaned by the handsome specimen hiding beneath her husband's awkward exterior. Oh-kay.

Can Fitz fumble his way to giving his wife what she craves?

This is a well-written story with several laugh out loud moments but I I likely won't read the rest of the series. It's just not my cup of tea. I wanted more of Fitz and Gigi falling in love, not falling into bed.

Grateful appreciation to Lizzie C Koz for providing a copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions expressed are entirely my own and reflect my genuine experience with the story.

Once upon a time, I was scrolling through social media, looking for new holiday book recommendations. Suddenly, a blurb for Compromised for Christmas by Lizzie C. Koz caught my eye. I can’t remember if it was Instagram or Threads, but something about it hooked me instantly, and I ran to pre-order this delightful holiday romp by a new author!

Our heroine, Georgianna—or Gigi—is a spirited debutante with an overbearing mother who is determined to marry her off to a titled gentleman. Unfortunately for Gigi, the marriage prospects are less than inspiring, so she decides to take matters into her own hands. She sets out to ensnare a duke known for his wicked ways but instead finds herself in an unexpected (and hilarious) predicament with Fitz.

Fitzwilliam, or Fitz, is our bumbling, endearing hero who is completely unprepared for Gigi and her boldness. Their first encounter is hilarious, especially when Fitz finds himself “rescued” by Gigi—who, due to her prior attempt with the duke, has her breasts exposed! Poor Fitz doesn’t stand a chance, and their whirlwind romance leads them to a quick marriage.

Fitz’s earnest attempts to win Gigi’s heart are both endearing and comical. He’s determined to be everything he thinks she needs, both in and out of the bedroom, but he often stumbles along the way. His awkwardness and genuine efforts add to the charm of the story, and their miscommunications create just the right amount of tension. The chemistry between them is undeniable, and the steamy scenes are both plentiful and well-crafted, moving the relationship forward naturally while adding a bit of sizzle to the holiday season.

One of my favorite aspects of the story is how it blends historical romance with a touch of modern holiday cheer. For example, there’s a family competition featuring “ugly waistcoats,” which reminded me fondly of every ugly Christmas sweater I’ve ever seen! While these touches add a contemporary flair that I personally enjoyed, I know not every reader may love this blend in a historical setting. For me, it just added to the festive fun.

Overall, Compromised for Christmas is a fantastic, easy-to-read holiday treat! It has everything you’d want from a festive romance: a charming love story, laugh-out-loud moments, family dynamics, and plenty of holiday spirit. The spice level is just right, and the plot moves at a perfect pace for cozying up by the fire with a cup of hot cocoa.

If you’re in the mood for a holiday romance that combines warmth, humor, and a bit of heat, I highly recommend giving this one a try. I can’t wait to dive into the next story in the Jennings Family saga, and I’ll definitely be revisiting Fitz and Gigi’s story before the season is over!

If you are looking for a traditional format historical romance… this one may not be for you. If you are looking for a modern take on historical romance, that’s fast paced, spicy af, with wonderful unconventional characters… get cozied up coz you are in for a delicious ride with this book!

Georgiana and Fitz meet in a delightful way that had me laughing so freaken hard. She’s waiting (and ready with her girls… ahem… on display) for an assignation with a Duke… when in walks Fitz. He’s flustered… she’s exposed … yada yada yada… in walks peeps and they are compromised and must marry in haste.

Fitz is severely socially awkward. Even with his supportive family he’s reserved. He can’t articulate what he’s thinking and sometimes (ok most of the time) he says the wrong things unintentionally. He knows he landed himself a beautiful wife and he is so fascinated with Georgiana.

Georgiana is a very strong FMC, but there’s a vulnerability surrounding her. I love that she is s*xually forward. She has fantasies and wants to be dominated… and she despairs that her extremely shy, but surprisingly hawt af husband may not like her very much. He certainly gives her a lot of mixed signals.

Together Georgiana and Fitz make the perfect pair… even though it doesn’t start out that way. There’s a lot of misunderstandings due to Fitz’s inability to communicate. There’s also a lot of longing because these two are truly attracted to each other. Georgina and Fitz made me laugh… cringe at times… and then ugly cry af. This book got every emotion possible out of me and I was wonderfully exhausted with a book hangover that wouldn’t quit for days. I am so in love with this Georgiana and Fitz… and I was cheering the loudest for their HEA.

Once I started reading this spicy gem of a Christmas story… I. Could. Not. Put. It. Down!! I was kind of mad at the world when I had to. 5 stars is not enough for Fitz and Georgiana’s laugh out loud, punch you in the feels story. And THIS is Lizzie C. Koz’s debut book? Absolutely amazing writing… I am already chomping at the bit for the next Jennings Family book!! She is automatically on my keeper shelf and I determined to read everything she writes.

Oh yes I will end this year with a bang! (Pun intended). This book was an absolute banger okay. With lots of banging🤭

This is so swoony, adorable and so so steamyyyy🔥🥵 but this is not just pure erotica. This actually had a heart. I mean, I truly loved that there was a good balance of romance and spiciness in this story. The MMC was a blubbering mess, can sometimes be a complete fool. He is a nitwit okay but he is that fun nitwit. He might be such a dolt at times but idk, he was still charming and reallyyy adorable. Loved the spitfire FMC, I love an fmc who knows what she wants and just goes after it, loved her patience and understanding of the hero.

They are so cute and sexy together. Now, you might get annoyed because this whole book really leans on the miscommunication trope a lot, I personally rarely enjoyes that trope however, I was surprised with how the author managed to really make it work with this book. It just made sense, knowing our MC's. But I also loved the fact that this couple really had to work through their differences and their misunderstandings of each other. It was not a walk in the park but that's exactly how marriages are supposed to be right? It requires hard work and actually wanting to know more about your spouse and their desires or needs. I just didn't like some of their decisions but well, the misunderstandings are quickly resolved too so I still enjoyed it.

So so loved the secret mutual pining, oh my the yearning was so delicious, and when they finally realized they love each other? Oh my the agony and the relief. Also, this book was really, really hotttt. Like dirty hot. And I like hot and dirty🤭. This book contains lots of kinks (D/s, c** play, light bdsm, rope, toys, voyeurism etc.) But all these scenes were written so well, didn't feel clinical or too lewd, it's more on the intimate side since it's sex within marriage. Overall, I truly enjoyed this book. Made me feel giddy. Also can't believe this is a debut book? The author surely knows how to write a heartfelt, spicy, swoony romance. Highly recommended. Unputdownable. Read it one sitting. Told myself I'll read one more book before this year ends so here we are. Happy new year and welcome 2025!

🎄 ARC review 🎄
Publication date november 12th.

Thank you so much for letting me read your wonderful book, Author Lizzie C Koz 🥰🙏

At one of "the Ton's" grand balls, Miss Georgiana Hartley awaits the infamous Duke, for a secret rendezvous... What should have been a moment of pleasure and excitement is turned completely upside down...
Because Gigi had expected that it was the charming, desirable and sensual Duke who wanted to meet her...but instead, is it Mr. Fitzwilliam Jennings who (literally) bumps in into Gigi's, uhh breasts 😂

Fitz has always had a hard time at social gatherings… his voice and words begin to fall apart, he begins to sweat, and turn red in the head (like a lobster 🦞).
That's why you can call him "the black sheep of the family"...
As the second son in the eccentric Jennings family, Fitz does not have the same "obligations" as e.g. Felix (the first born).
However, there is one thing that all gentlemen of good family must do when they end up in such a situation as Fitz and Gigi does.
Alone in a closed room, with the clothes in disarray, equals marriage.

Who would have thought wild Gigi and nervous Fitz would be a perfect match?

Okay, I LOVE this book!
Right from the first page, I was captivated by the brilliant writing style and humor.
A high pace is maintained throughout the book, where a lot of things happen, so there is never a dull moment.
The Jennings are just so sweet and it's really heartwarming that Gigi is finally allowed to be appreciated and loved by a family, she can now call her own.

Now let's talk about Fitz… 😘
I don't think I've ever read a historical romance book where MMC has been anything other than a confident, powerful, ladies' man rake, with a flamboyant past...
That is why this book is so much more exciting!
Because I LOVE that Fitz is that nervous, awkward, reserved bookworm.
A large part of the book is built on his self-esteem and anxiety... and I just want to say a huge thank you to you, Lizzie, for writing and inventing such a wonderful character (and that there will be more focus on the subject)
I feel so much for him and really see him as the lovely person he is.
Fitz and Gigi are one of the best book couples I've read about as they complement each other so well.
As well as challenge each other when there is a need for it and support and have the courage to take care of the difficult things together.
Really a touching development the two go through as a couple.
I love it! ❤️

I give the book 5 out of 5 stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ (honestly, if I could give more stars I would, it was sooooo good!)

I ADORED this book! I’ve been seeing it everywhere over the last couple of weeks, so decided to go in blind without reading the blurb.

I absolutely didn’t expect it to pull me in like it did. There wasn’t one lull whatsoever. It took me a few days to finish but only because I had one of my own books to finish writing and I couldn’t have been angrier about it. All I wanted to do was dive into the book and never leave.

The writing style was fantastic. And it was funny. Like when I think of historical romance, I usually don’t think funny, but after reading this more of them should be. The desk scene with Fitz and Felix was amazing. I went back over to reread it just to squeeze out as much dopamine as possible.
That’s not even touching on Georgiana and Fitz! Georgiana was so unapologetically confident in going after what she wanted: THE D. (We’ve all been there, babe.) It seems like such a novel concept for a regency FMC but it worked so well, especially when we learnt more about her loneliness and her only friend being Bernie.

And Fitzy 😭 My terrified, bumbling, stuttering lobsterpuppy-turned-mongoose. I was a bit worried at the start his nervousness would wear thin, but he was so endearing that I quickly forgot that thought and strode headfirst into loving him. Especially his filthy, Italian mouth.
The s/e/x scenes were proper, heart-warming, dirty-talking, proceed-with-caution S/E/X SCENES. Lizzie C Koz is absolutely getting added to my list of auto-buy authors.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Notes:
- The Duke of Ironcrest is such a fucking good name for a duke. AND HE’S GOT A SCAR?! I love him already. 100% BDE. Please tell me he’s getting a book.
- Georgiana had to tie up Bernie’s ears, ohmygod my heart cannot take this.
- More MMCs should be called Fitzy. It’s so fucking cute.
- I too share Georgiana’s love of s/e/x grunts
- Fitzy getting jealous of Derek was peak Fitzy
- I hate Lord Wessex. And after reading the blurb for Book #2, I literally cannot wait to read it 😈

✨ARC Review✨ I’m delighted with this book. I love historical romance and one of my favorites is the Lustful Lords series by @authorsorchamowbray. This book isn’t really like that series except in the proclivities department.
Bless Fitz. Sorcha’s Lords are the opposite of our sweetie pie.

Miss Georgiana Hartley has specific tastes for her bedroom activities and since her parents keep throwing her (once, literally) into the path of every titled gentleman in town, she’s going to go for what she wants. She’s heard the Duke of Ironcrest can give her what she craves, so she’s awaiting him for a house party rendezvous when in walks sweet, bumbling, socially awkward Fitzwilliam Jennings.

Fitz is the younger brother of the Earl of Bentley and is a studious, bookish sort who does Italian translations. He may not be titled himself, but he is his brother’s heir and the family is well-connected. Plus, when people start piling into the room where Georgiana has her breasts hanging out and Fitz is caught with her, they are thoroughly compromised. The only solution is a quick marriage.

So, what’s a woman with needs going to do about her shy, avoidant husband? Hunt him down, of course.

Look. Are there some anachronistic turns of phrase in here? Does it seem the Jennings family is surprisingly progressive? Sure. But this book is fun and it’s sexy. I love that Fitz is charmingly awkward and Georgiana comes to love that about him. I am proud of her for telling him about her desires too. I adore the competitiveness of the Jennings family. That snowball fight is fantastic. And did I mention how spicy this is? Let me tell ya, Fitz can command me in Italian and call me a bad kitty any day. Unlike Georgiana, I won’t understand it, but I can read context clues. 😉

My thanks to @lizzieckoz for the eARC. It was my pleasure to read it. All thoughts are mine alone.

What a story! It is explicit. It has kinky tendencies, but it is done in such an ‘aw shucks’ kind of way that it not offensive. Georgiana is the twenty year old daughter of a rich merchant whose wife wants her to marry a title. Thus she has been pushed, literally, in front of every impoverished available titled gentleman her mother could find. Georgiana’s upbringing was less than ideal, leading her to seek adventure and distraction. Knowing that the Duke of Ironcrest was notorious for his depraved sexual exploits, Georgiana attempted to set up an assignation with him at the Earl of Bentley’s Christmas ball. So there she is sitting behind a desk with her wares hanging out when in walks Fitzwilliam Jennings, the Earl’s younger, socially inept brother. What follows is a hilarious bumbling scene which leads to her being compromised. Of course he marries her and the two of them struggle to communicate and get to know each other. Fitz is adorable. He’s anxious, awkward and scholarly and has difficulty spitting out what he wants to say. Georgiana is the opposite, but she has the patience of a saint and the most forgiving heart. This story is full of unconventional characters, hot sexual scenes, misunderstandings, laugh out loud moments and raucous family interactions. It is so easy to get invested in the Jennings family. Felix, the Earl of Bentley, wants the best for his family and is a great big brother to Fitz. Felicity is a hoyden, plain and simple, yet she is caught in an undesirable betrothal that just breaks your heart. I think this is a well written entertaining story that will get your heart pumping, have you glued to the page and leave you smiling and wanting more.

I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

This debut historical is real steamy! Pick it up if you like D/s dynamics, more modern dialogue, and don't mind when an author leans in on the miscommunication.

Georgiana has known she wants to be dominated in the bedroom for...ever? Since forever, yeah. One evening she invites a notorious rake/Dom to meet her in the library so she can indulge. But instead, she meets the most socially awkward son of an earl while she's topless. And then they get interrupted. Looks like someone's compromised, baby!

Fitz apparently has no idea how to talk to women, especially his new wife. When he realizes she wants him to order her around (and possibly more) in the bedroom, he just doesn't know what to do or how to react. This conflict is perfect for a novella. I did find it a little drawn out and mashed up with a ton of miscommunication. Yes, yes, I know that the whole premise of the book is that they can't communicate. I get it! But when Fitz gets jealous because he overhears her calling non-humans (an object and a dog) by a man's name at different points in the book, it feels a little repetitive. I think the book could have been a little tighter - it's definitely novel length!

The strength of the book, though, is in the steam. You'll want to read this one if you like reading about sexy people who might have a tough time talking, but know how to have a good time in the bedroom. Expect toys, dirty talk, lots of sloppy stuff, etc. Koz does a good job of laying out what you can expect in the preface, in case you want to make sure it matches what YOU want out of an explicit romance.

This objective review is based on a complimentary copy of the novel.

𝗧𝗥𝗜𝗚𝗚𝗘𝗥 𝗪𝗔𝗥𝗡𝗜𝗡𝗚𝗦: I've listed them on my Instagram post as some readers might see this as spoilers. Feel free to check it out there.

From the first page to the last this steamy historical romance has characters that are relatable and loveable. A fast-paced plot filled with plenty of banter, tension, and hot chemistry. I found myself unable to put the book down because I needed to find out how the story ended.

Georgiana Hartley is bold and daring in her quest to find love. What will happen when she discovers she missed one important detail in her plan?

Fitzwilliam Jennings is socially awkward, introverted, and would rather spend time with his nose buried in his work translating Italian books. The last thing he ever expected was to compromise his future and stir up painful memories. Fearful of his new bride discovering his secrets he hopes she will be able to accept him and their fate.

Pour a cuppa hot cocoa or fill your glasses with a dram or two of whiskey and dive into this scorchin’ hot romance. It’s time to find out if Fitz and Georgiana are perfectly paired in their need for control, pleasure, and desire.

Hopefully we won't have to wait too long for the next installment. I received an advance reader copy from the author for an honest and fair review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Fitz, a highly relatable, awkward anxiety-ridden second son is caught in a compromising situation with a merchant's daughter that he stumbles upon t*ts-out in his study. Georgiana was supposed to meet an absolute rogue of a duke for an assignation, but the situation goes breasts over teakettle when the wrong man walks in. They are forced to marry upon their discovery, and attempt to make the best of navigating their fast-burning chemistry around obstacles like Fitz being the Usain Bolt of avoidance whilst his new wife is upfront about her sexual proclivities, and mishaps and miscommunications that snowball to a comical degree. There is really a little bit of everything here!

After reading a few of my friends' reviews for this book, I could not throw my book allowance at Lizzie C. Koz fast enough. Y'ALL!!! I was floored that this was a debut novel and will absolutely have my eyes on Koz in 2025. While it's super well researched, if you're a stickler for historical accuracy, this one reads a bit more modern and may not be the one for you. I'm a gal completely satisfied with an engaging, well-written historical fiction regardless of the tone so this personally checked all of my boxes. It was just so much fun to read, and I'm already so eager to read the next installation of his series.

Christmas is a tertiary character here, so I think you should use December as an excuse to read it right now.

Read if you like:
- a high-steam, lower angst fast burn
- a little bit of D/s k!nk
- gratuitous miscommunication
- bold FMCs
- ugly waistcoat contests!!!
