Justin Woolley has been writing stories since he could first scrawl with a crayon. When he was six years old he wrote his first book, a 300 word pirate epic in unreadable handwriting called 'The Ghost Ship'. He promptly declared that he was now an author and didn't need to go to school. Despite being informed that this was, in fact, not the case, he continued to make things up and write them down.
Today Justin is the author of the Australian set dystopian trilogy The Territory Series consisting of the novels A Town Called Dust, A City Called Smoke and A World of Ash, the young-adult science fiction adventure We Are Omega, the science-fiction comedy series Shakedowners consisting of the novels Shakedowners, Shakedowners 2: The Vinyl Frontier and Shakedowners 3: Slack to the Future, and is now adding to the darkness of the 41st millennium for Black Library.
Justin lives in Hobart, Australia with his wife and two sons. In his other life he's been an engineer, a teacher and at one stage even a magician. His handwriting has not improved.
This is a great Red Gobbo book. I think you can truly see the spirit of ork philosophy through the pages. There's so much dakka, and waaagh, and mostly mayhem. It's also oddly inspiring and wholesome. There's something magical in this book about how the Red Gobbo is truly an idea more than an actual grot. Plus, Justin Woolley is really fun and the story goes really fast.
Long Live da Red Gobbo – A Grot-tastic Tale of Revolushun!
If there’s one thing we grots know, it’s dat life under da Orks ain’t easy. But sometimes, just sometimes, one of us sneaky little blighters gets a big idea—bigger than stealin’ teef, bigger than nickin’ gubbinz. An idea so dangerous it could shake da whole galaxy… FREEDOM! And in Long Live da Red Gobbo, Justin Woolley gives us exactly dat—a raucous, action-packed, and utterly grotty tale of revolution, cunning, and an awful lot of dakka.
Da story kicks off with our beloved, shoota-firing’, red cape wearin’, bomb-throwin’ Red Gobbo sittin’ on top of da world—well, on top of da Big Thumpa, an Ork kill kroozer what he ‘liberated’ from da greenskin overlords. But dere’s a slight problem… turns out flyin’ a spaceship ain’t as easy as nickin’ a squig pie. Things go sideways fast, and before long, Da Red Gobbo and his revolushunary grots find themselves crashin’ down into another fine mess.
And wot a mess it is! But also an opportunity! A world wiv grots slavin’ away under da brutal rule of Warboss Brukka Bludspilla and his nasty Snakebite boyz. But Da Red Gobbo ain't one to ignore a good revolushun when he sees one! With his usual mix of cunnin’, sneaky smartz, and a well-placed stick bomb or three, he gets to work.
Now, we won’t spoil da whole tale for ya in this short novella, but let’s just say—dere’s big fights, big explosions, a lotta grots gettin’ krumped, and a WHOLE lotta Orks gettin’ a nasty surprise. And right when fings look bleak, well… let’s just say revolushuns have a way of findin’ a new leader. Da Red Gobbo might fall, but da cause never dies!
Justin Woolley captures da sheer madness of Warhammer 40K’s grot underdogs perfectly. It’s fast, it’s brutal, and it’s full of that classic mix of grot sneaky cleverness and Orky stupidity. If ya ever dreamed of stickin’ it to da boss, makin’ da big ladz look like gitz, or just blowin’ stuff up in da name of not gettin’ stomped, dis book is for you.
Long Live da Red Gobbo is a must-read for anyone who loves a bit of grimdark humor, underdog scrappin’, and seein’ Orks get what’s comin’ to ‘em. So grab yer shoota, slap on a revolutionary hat, and remember—Da Revolushun ain't over yet!
Another great Red Gobbo story in this year's edition! This one was extra gorey with some unexpected twists. The meaning of Da Red Gobbo is crystal clear and he lives one despite almost everyone dying!
